Choose the iPhone 17 Pro Max if you want a conventional large-screen phone; choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra if you want a phone that opens into an 8-inch workspace. The Fold8 Ultra’s larger inner display and multi-window potential come with a foldable design and a higher listed U.S. starting price, while the iPhone offers Apple’s platform and storage configurations up to 2TB.

Which phone is better for your day-to-day use?
Choose the Fold8 Ultra for an expandable workspace
When folded, the Samsung has a 6.5-inch cover display; open it and you get an 8-inch screen. That extra area is the meaningful distinction if you often want more room for reading, viewing content, or working with multiple windows. It is a different use of a phone from simply carrying a conventional handset with a large display. The recommendation follows from the screen format and listed features, not a hands-on productivity test.
Choose the iPhone for a familiar slab design and Apple’s platform
The iPhone’s 6.9-inch OLED remains a single display rather than an inner-and-cover-screen arrangement. It is the clearer fit if you prefer a conventional phone shape, already favor Apple’s platform, or want the option of 2TB storage. Its design avoids the practical compromises some buyers may associate with carrying and using a foldable, though the listed specifications alone do not measure durability or long-term ownership.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow the camera specifications compare
Samsung lists higher resolution for its main rear camera and includes a 50MP ultra-wide and 10MP telephoto. Apple describes three 48MP rear cameras and an 18MP Center Stage front camera. Samsung’s cited UK specification also lists 3× optical zoom and 8K/30fps recording; Apple describes 8× “optical-quality” zoom in its launch announcement. These labels and megapixel counts do not establish which phone takes better photos or video. Comparative image quality depends on more than resolution, and no matched camera test is cited here.

What the listed prices do—and do not—tell you
Samsung’s U.S. page listed the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra from $2,099.99 before trade-in when accessed October 7, 2026. TechRadar reported a $1,199 U.S. launch price for the 256GB iPhone 17 Pro Max in June 2026. Those figures use different bases: a current Samsung product-page starting price and a historical iPhone launch price. They are not a verified like-for-like current price comparison, so the difference between them should not be treated as today’s price gap.
For a useful comparison, check same-day U.S. prices for the same storage tier, and distinguish unlocked pricing from carrier offers. Include trade-ins or promotions only if you qualify for them. Apple’s live price and the exact current prices for both phones are not established by the cited price sources.

Storage, weight, and availability
Apple lists four iPhone capacities from 256GB through 2TB. Samsung’s U.S. page lists 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB Fold8 Ultra options. The Samsung weight cited above is specifically for a 256GB UK model, so it should not be assumed to describe every regional variant.

Battery life and performance: what cannot be concluded here
The listed specifications and cited sources do not establish a directly comparable battery-life or performance result for these phones. A defensible answer about which lasts longer or runs faster would require a matched test with disclosed settings and conditions. Do not infer either result from a manufacturer’s claim or one specification alone.
