The iPhone 17 Pro Max has the larger display, higher maximum storage option and more extensive listed telephoto reach; the Galaxy S26 FE is the lower-priced option in the available US price figures. Those figures imply a $399.01 gap, but they are not same-day prices on equivalent terms: Apple’s $1,199 figure is the iPhone’s launch starting price, while Samsung’s $799.99 figure was listed for the Galaxy S26 FE with 256GB on October 7, 2026.
Price difference: about $399, with an important qualification
Apple announced a US starting price of $1,199 for the iPhone 17 Pro Max on September 9, 2025. Samsung’s US product page showed $799.99 for the Galaxy S26 FE 256GB configuration when accessed on October 7, 2026. Subtracting those figures gives an indicative difference of $399.01 in favor of the Samsung listing, not a synchronized checkout-price comparison. Promotions, trade-in offers, taxes, carrier plans, storage tiers and current availability can change what either phone costs.
Check the price for the exact storage capacity, unlocked or carrier version, and local market before deciding. The Samsung page lists prices by capacity, while Samsung cautions that storage availability can vary by carrier, country or region. Apple’s launch announcement and Samsung’s US listing provide the underlying figures.

Which phone has the better screen and design?
The iPhone’s screen is 0.2 inches larger diagonally and has a listed peak outdoor brightness of up to 3,000 nits, compared with Samsung’s 1,900 nits. Both specifications describe OLED displays, but the Samsung panel is listed as FHD+ and supports 60Hz or 120Hz; Apple lists 120Hz ProMotion. These manufacturer figures describe different claims and should not be treated as a direct independent brightness test.
The Galaxy S26 FE is 40g lighter and thinner by 1.35mm according to the listed dimensions. Choose it if lower weight and a slimmer body matter more; choose the iPhone if the larger screen is the priority.
How do their cameras differ?
Both phones have three rear cameras, but their resolution figures alone do not establish which takes better photos. The iPhone lists three 48MP Fusion cameras and telephoto options described as 4x optical zoom at 100mm and 8x optical zoom at 200mm. Samsung lists a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide and 8MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. Their camera systems therefore differ in stated sensor resolution and optical reach; image quality cannot be ranked from those specifications alone.

Battery, charging and what the specifications do not tell you
Samsung publishes a typical battery capacity of 4,900mAh, estimated under IEC 61960 laboratory conditions; its rated minimum capacity is 4,755mAh. It lists 45W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, and says charging can reach up to 69% in about 30 minutes with a 45W adapter. The stated time and percentage are Samsung’s claim, not a comparative test.
Apple’s cited specification page does not give an iPhone battery capacity in mAh. It lists MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging at up to 25W under specified conditions. Because the manufacturers publish different battery information, a capacity-based comparison or conclusion about which lasts longer is not supported by these specifications.
Storage, SIM and regional details to check
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is offered in listed capacities up to 2TB; the Galaxy S26 FE’s listed range tops out at 512GB. Confirm that the desired tier is actually sold in your market, especially for Samsung, whose storage availability may differ by carrier or region.

For US buyers, Apple says the iPhone 17 Pro Max uses dual eSIM and has no physical SIM card slot. For the Galaxy S26 FE, verify the exact model and carrier-band compatibility before purchase rather than assuming every regional version supports the same networks.

Availability and colors can also vary by market. Apple’s September 2025 announcement listed availability beginning September 19 and colors Silver, Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue. Samsung said Galaxy S26 FE availability starts September 4 in select markets, in Blueberry, Graphite and Pistachio. Check local stock and configuration rather than assuming those launch details apply everywhere.

Apple says the iPhone package includes the phone, a 1m USB-C charge cable and documentation, but no power adapter or EarPods. If you do not already have a compatible adapter, account for it separately. The cited Samsung sources do not establish charger contents for every region, so check the package details for the exact model being sold.
Which phone should you choose?
- Choose the iPhone 17 Pro Max if you want the larger display, a listed 2TB storage tier, Apple’s stated 4x and 8x telephoto optical options, or an iPhone that fits the Apple ecosystem you already use.
- Choose the Galaxy S26 FE if its current local price is substantially lower, you prefer a lighter and thinner phone, or Samsung’s Android ecosystem and listed storage options meet your needs.
- Compare the exact checkout offers if price is decisive. The $399.01 arithmetic gap compares Apple’s US launch starting price with Samsung’s observed US 256GB listing price, not equivalent live offers.
No independent head-to-head performance, camera or battery test is established here, so the specifications alone cannot determine which phone is faster, takes better pictures or lasts longer. Your ecosystem preference, storage requirement, regional compatibility and actual purchase price are the practical deciding factors.
