What the screen and form factor mean in everyday use
iPhone 16: a familiar, single-screen phone
The iPhone 16’s 6.1-inch display and 170-gram weight describe a conventional phone that stays in one compact form. It is the more direct fit if you want a single screen and do not need a device that unfolds into a larger workspace.
Galaxy Z Fold8: a phone that opens into a larger screen
The Fold8 has a cover screen for use while folded and a larger main screen when opened. That format can better suit reading, watching or working across a larger display, but it is a different kind of device rather than simply a larger conventional phone. Samsung announced U.S. general availability beginning August 7, 2026; see its availability announcement.

Price difference: $1,100.99, with a storage caveat
Apple’s U.S. purchase listing shows iPhone 16 from $799 for 128GB, while Samsung’s U.S. listing shows the Galaxy Z Fold8 256GB at $1,899.99. Subtracting the listed prices gives a $1,100.99 gap. The figures come from the manufacturers’ U.S. purchase pages checked in 2026: Apple’s iPhone 16 purchase page and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 purchase page.
This is a comparison of the listed starting configurations, not an equal-storage comparison: the iPhone listing is for 128GB and the Fold8 listing is for 256GB. The listed figures exclude taxes, trade-in value, carrier financing and temporary offers. Samsung may display offers, so an individual checkout price can differ from the listed amount.

Which phone should you choose?
- Choose iPhone 16 if you want a conventional 6.1-inch phone, value its specified 170-gram weight, and prefer the lower listed U.S. entry price.
- Choose Galaxy Z Fold8 if opening your phone into a larger main screen for reading, video or multitasking is worth the substantially higher listed price to you.
- Compare your actual checkout prices if you plan to use a trade-in, carrier financing or an offer; those can change what you pay, and the listed configurations have different storage capacities.
