The screen dimensions describe different layouts, not equivalent viewing areas: the Fold8’s 7.6-inch panel is available when the phone is open, while its 5.5-inch cover display serves when it is folded. The iPhone’s 6.9-inch display is its single, always-exposed phone screen.

The 256GB figures produce a $700.99 gap, but it is not a synchronized price check: one is the iPhone’s launch MSRP and the other the Fold8’s price in a review snapshot. Check local retailers for a current comparison before buying.

Which display and form factor suits you?
Choose the iPhone for a familiar one-screen phone
The iPhone’s 6.9-inch display gives you a large viewing area without unfolding or switching between two panels. It is the more straightforward choice if you primarily want a conventional phone for messaging, browsing, video, and photography.
Choose the Fold8 for a larger unfolded workspace
The Fold8 combines a 5.5-inch cover screen with a 7.6-inch inner screen. That inner display can be useful when you want more room for reading or working with content, while the cover screen handles folded use. A larger diagonal does not by itself establish which layout is easier for your tasks. Consider whether you will actually open the device often enough to value the extra workspace.

Megapixel counts and optical reach measure different things. The Fold8’s reported 50MP camera resolution does not substitute for a dedicated telephoto lens if you want that listed 5x optical camera option. The available specifications do not establish an overall image-quality winner.

Battery: different kinds of evidence
Apple’s “up to 33 hours” figure is a manufacturer video-playback estimate, and Apple says real results vary with configuration, settings, and use. The Fold8’s 4,800mAh figure is battery capacity, not a runtime measurement. Tom’s Guide recorded 12 hours 19 minutes for the Fold8 in its own 5G web-browsing test. Water and dust: compare ratings, not guarantees
Apple specifies IP68 and describes controlled testing under IEC 60529 at up to 6m for up to 30 minutes. Tom’s Guide reports an IP48 rating for the Fold8. These labels and test conditions are not promises that either phone is immune to damage; avoid treating a rating as permission to expose a device to water or dust without regard to its care guidance. Which one should you buy?
- Pick the iPhone 16 Pro Max if you prefer a conventional large-screen design, want Apple’s listed 5x telephoto camera, or do not need a folding inner display.
- Pick the Galaxy Z Fold8 if opening a phone into a 7.6-inch display is valuable enough to justify its higher cited reference price and foldable form.
- Compare actual local prices if cost is decisive: the cited U.S. price gap is based on unlike price points, not current offers.
