The iPhone 15 Pro Max is a conventional, single-screen iPhone; Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is an Android foldable that opens into a larger workspace. Choose the iPhone if you want one screen and Apple’s ecosystem. Consider the Fold8 Ultra if its cover screen and expansive inner display suit how you use a phone. Their camera specifications and prices differ, but neither megapixel counts nor a price snapshot alone establishes which is the better buy.
Price difference: what the U.S. listings actually compare
At the time of the cited 2026 U.S. listings, Apple showed a refurbished, unlocked 256GB iPhone 15 Pro Max for $849, while Samsung listed the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra starting at $2,099.99 before trade-in. The arithmetic difference is $1,250.99, but this is not a like-for-like comparison: one listing is for a refurbished phone with a specified capacity, and the other is a new-device starting price.
| Phone and listing | Price basis | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 15 Pro Max, 256GB | $849 at Apple’s U.S. refurbished store, accessed in 2026; unlocked listing | Refurbished price, not a new-device quote. Apple refurbished iPhone listings |
| Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra | Starting at $2,099.99 on Samsung’s U.S. product page, accessed in 2026; before trade-in | Starting price; the cited figure is not a matched 256GB comparison. Samsung U.S. product page |
For historical context, Apple announced a U.S. starting price of $1,199 for the iPhone 15 Pro Max in 2023. That launch MSRP is not its current market price. Prices, stock, storage configurations, taxes, trade-in offers, and regional availability can change.
Before buying, compare devices with the same storage, condition, seller, and region. Check whether the iPhone listing is refurbished or new and unlocked, and read the Fold8 Ultra offer’s storage and trade-in terms rather than treating its starting price as a quote for every configuration.

Display and form factor: one screen or a foldable workspace?
iPhone 15 Pro Max: one 6.7-inch display
The iPhone’s 6.7-inch OLED display is the only screen to consider. It supports up to 120Hz ProMotion, but the phone does not open into a tablet-sized workspace. Its conventional design is the simpler fit if you prefer a single display and do not need a screen that unfolds.

Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: cover screen plus 8-inch inner screen
Folded, the Fold8 Ultra has a 6.5-inch cover display; unfolded, it provides an 8-inch inner display. Both are specified at up to 120Hz. The choice is not simply 6.7 inches versus 8 inches: the Samsung’s larger screen is available when unfolded, while everyday folded use happens on the cover screen. Consider how often you would open it and whether the larger workspace matters for your own phone use.
Camera comparison: different zoom hardware, no proven photo-quality winner
Apple specifies a 48MP main camera and a 5x telephoto camera for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Samsung lists a 200MP wide camera, a 50MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom for the Fold8 Ultra. Those numbers describe different camera configurations; they do not establish which phone takes better photos. No independent side-by-side camera test is available here, so a quality ranking would be unsupported.

Software, performance and resistance
iOS and Android ecosystems
The iPhone runs iOS and uses Apple’s A17 Pro chip. The Fold8 Ultra runs Android in Samsung’s Galaxy ecosystem and uses Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. Choose based on the platform and connected devices or services you want to use; no cross-platform benchmark establishes a performance winner here.
IP ratings are not damage-proof guarantees
Apple documents IP68 under IEC 60529 for the iPhone, while Samsung lists IP48 for the Fold8 Ultra. These are the manufacturers’ published ratings, not a promise that either device is immune to damage. Check each maker’s limitations and warranty terms for practical coverage; the labels should not be treated as interchangeable guarantees.
