The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the stronger pick for display features and camera flexibility; the iPhone 15 Plus is the better fit if you want USB-C and a newer Plus model. Both use the A16 Bionic generation, so the 15 Plus does not bring a newer chip generation. Which is the better buy depends on the phones’ current condition, storage, and like-for-like price—not simply the model year.

Which phone has the better display?
Both phones have a 6.7-inch-class Super Retina XDR display and Dynamic Island. The 14 Pro Max adds ProMotion and an Always-On display, features Apple does not list for the 15 Plus in its comparison. If smoother screen interaction or seeing information on an idle display matters to you, those are meaningful reasons to favor the Pro model.

Not in overall camera flexibility. The 14 Pro Max has three rear cameras, including a dedicated telephoto camera, as well as LiDAR and Pro-oriented formats such as Apple ProRAW and ProRes. The 15 Plus has a dual-camera system: its 48MP main camera can provide a 2x telephoto option, but that option is produced from the main camera rather than a separate rear telephoto module.

Choose the 14 Pro Max if you specifically want a dedicated telephoto camera, LiDAR, or Pro capture formats. The 15 Plus still offers a 48MP main camera and 2x option, but those specifications alone do not make it a more capable camera system overall. Apple announced the 15 Plus’s camera features at launch in 2023; its announcement is product marketing, not an independent camera evaluation: Apple’s iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus announcement.
Is the iPhone 15 Plus faster?
There is no newer chip generation advantage here: Apple lists both phones with the A16 Bionic generation. The 15 Plus is a newer model, but that does not mean it advances to a newer chip generation compared with the 14 Pro Max.

Which phone has better battery life?
Apple estimates up to 29 hours of video playback for the iPhone 14 Pro Max and up to 26 hours for the iPhone 15 Plus. These are manufacturer estimates, not a promise of how long either phone will last in your use; actual battery life varies with settings, workload, and battery condition. The figures are available in Apple’s current comparison and the iPhone 14 Pro technical specifications.

Does USB-C make the iPhone 15 Plus the better choice?
The 15 Plus uses USB-C, while the 14 Pro Max uses Lightning. USB-C can be more convenient if your existing cables, docks, or wired accessories use that connector. Check compatibility for each accessory rather than assuming that a connector match guarantees every function will work.

Which is the better buy, and what is the price difference?
There is no reliable universal price difference to quote without a specific market, date, storage capacity, and condition. Compare offers for the same storage and similar condition, and check whether each phone is unlocked or carrier-locked, what warranty or return terms apply, and who is selling it. A refurbished or used phone is not directly comparable with a new one, and a listing’s price is not meaningful without those details.
The 15 Plus became available on September 22, 2023, according to Apple’s launch announcement. That date provides model-age context, not evidence of a current price or Apple retail availability.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose iPhone 14 Pro Max if ProMotion, Always-On display, a dedicated telephoto camera, LiDAR, or Apple ProRAW and ProRes matter most.
- Choose iPhone 15 Plus if USB-C and a newer Plus model matter more to you, and you are comfortable with a dual-camera system and without the Pro display features.
- For value, compare the actual offers. Match storage, condition, seller status, and warranty or return terms before deciding which costs less for what you are getting.
