To open Control Center on an iPhone 13, swipe down from the display’s top-right corner. The iPhone 13 uses Face ID, so this is the correct gesture; a swipe too close to the top center may open Notification Center instead.
Open Control Center on your iPhone 13
- Wake your iPhone or go to the screen you are using.
- Place a finger at the top-right corner of the display.
- Swipe down. Control Center should appear.
You can use the same swipe from the Lock Screen. Apple’s iPhone guide documents the top-right gesture for iPhones with Face ID, and its Lock Screen guide confirms that Control Center is available there.
If Notification Center opens instead
Try again, starting closer to the top-right corner and keeping the swipe away from the top center. On iPhone X and later, a swipe near the top center can open Notification Center rather than Control Center, according to Apple Support.
Use and close Control Center
Control Center provides quick access to features such as Airplane Mode, Do Not Disturb, the flashlight, volume, and screen brightness. Touch and hold many controls to see additional options. To close the panel, swipe up from the bottom center of the screen.

On iOS 18 and later, swipe up or down along the top-right edge while Control Center is open to move between groups, including Music, Home devices, and iPhone feature controls such as AirDrop or Satellite. Apple’s iPhone guide describes adding, rearranging, removing, or resizing controls in the Control Center editing interface. To add one, open Control Center, tap the Add button, choose Add a Control, then select a control from the gallery. The exact interface may differ with the iOS version installed; consult Apple’s guide to using and customizing Control Center for the instructions that apply to your software.
