The iPhone 12 Pro Max is Apple’s large-screen Pro smartphone introduced in 2020. It has a 6.7-inch OLED display, an A14 Bionic chip, 5G connectivity, and a rear camera system with three 12-megapixel cameras and a LiDAR Scanner. It is the larger counterpart to the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro.
What does “iPhone 12 Pro Max” mean?
It identifies the largest Pro model in Apple’s iPhone 12 family. “Pro Max” distinguishes it from the standard-size iPhone 12 Pro: the Max has a 6.7-inch diagonal display, while the Pro has a 6.1-inch display. Both belong to the 2020 Pro generation.
Apple introduced the iPhone 12 Pro models on October 13, 2020. Their generation-defining features included the A14 Bionic chip, 5G, a Ceramic Shield front, MagSafe and LiDAR. These are product features, not a claim about how the phone performs relative to current devices.

How can you identify an iPhone 12 Pro Max?
Check the model number in the phone’s settings or its physical device documentation, then match it to Apple’s regional model list. The model number varies by market:

Apple offered the iPhone 12 Pro Max in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB capacities, with silver, graphite, gold and Pacific Blue finishes. Color or storage alone does not establish the regional model number.
What are its size and display specifications?
The phone measures 160.8 mm tall, 78.1 mm wide and 7.4 mm deep, and weighs 228 g. Its all-screen Super Retina XDR OLED display has a resolution of 2778 × 1284 pixels at 458 pixels per inch. Apple describes the diagonal as 6.7 inches; measured as a standard rectangle, it is 6.68 inches, and the rounded corners reduce the actual viewable area.

Apple lists maximum brightness as 800 nits for typical use and 1,200 nits for HDR. The front uses Ceramic Shield, and the back is textured matte glass within a stainless-steel design.

The rear system consists of three 12MP cameras: Ultra Wide, Wide and Telephoto. It also includes a LiDAR Scanner. Apple lists a 2.5× optical zoom in, 2× optical zoom out, 5× optical zoom range and up to 12× digital zoom for this model.

Listed imaging capabilities include Night mode, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 3 and Apple ProRAW. The Pro Max’s telephoto implementation differs from the iPhone 12 Pro’s, so its camera figures should not be assumed to apply to the smaller Pro model.

The models share the 2020 Pro generation and its A14 platform, Ceramic Shield design language, LiDAR and MagSafe context. The larger screen and different telephoto camera are key distinctions; consult Apple’s individual specifications for exact model-specific figures.

What connectivity and durability features should you know?
The iPhone 12 Pro Max supports 5G, MagSafe and wireless charging. Cellular band support depends on the regional model, and charging conditions affect charging performance; check Apple’s technical specifications for the relevant model and conditions.
Apple rates it IP68 for a maximum depth of 6 metres for up to 30 minutes under controlled laboratory conditions. This rating is not a guarantee against water damage or permanent water resistance.
