To check browser history on an iPad, open the browser you used: in Safari, tap Show Sidebar > History; in Chrome, tap More > History. Each browser keeps its own history view, so a page visited in one will not appear in the other.
Find history in Safari on iPad
- Open Safari.
- Tap Show Sidebar.
- Tap History to view previously visited pages.
If you do not see History, tap the Back button at the top of the sidebar, then look for History again. Apple documents this route in its iPad Safari guide. Labels or positions can vary by iPadOS version.
Find history in Chrome on iPad
- Open Chrome.
- Tap More.
- Tap History.
Google says Chrome History lists pages visited in the last 90 days. If you are signed in and history sync is enabled, the list can also include pages visited on your other devices. See Google Chrome Help.

Why a page may be missing
- It was opened in another browser. Check Safari, Chrome, or any other browser app you might have used; their history lists are separate.
- It was opened in private or Incognito mode. Safari Private Browsing details are not saved in History, and Chrome does not list pages visited in Incognito mode. See Apple’s Private Browsing guidance and Google’s Chrome History guidance.
- The entry was deleted. A deleted page will no longer appear in the browser’s History view.
- It is outside Chrome’s history window or sync scope. Chrome’s documented view covers the last 90 days; pages from other devices appear when history sync is enabled for the signed-in Google Account.
- You are looking for a record held somewhere else. Browser history is not a complete record of all browsing activity. Apple notes that clearing Safari history does not clear histories kept independently by websites or other apps.
Remove history only if you intend to
Deleting history is different from checking it. These steps remove entries from the browser’s view; they do not establish that records held by websites, other apps, or elsewhere are erased.

Clear Safari history
- Open Safari and tap Show Sidebar, then History.
- Tap More, then choose Clear.
- Choose a timeframe and tap Clear History. If Safari profiles are configured, select a profile or All Profiles as appropriate.

Delete Chrome history
To remove individual entries, tap More > History > Edit, select the entries, tap Delete, then Done. To clear by time range or data type, tap More > Delete Browsing Data. Google says the default time range is 15 minutes; choose a different duration if needed. Refer to Google Chrome Help for the current steps.
