Apple Magic Keyboard Folio and Logitech Combo Touch for iPad (10th Gen) are the two keyboard cases with model-specific documentation for Apple’s 10th-generation iPad. Choose Magic Keyboard Folio if you want Apple’s two-piece design, detachable keyboard, trackpad, 14-key function row and adjustable stand. Choose Combo Touch if backlit keys, a detachable keyboard, protective coverage and a 20–60-degree range of viewing angles matter more.

There is no independent typing, durability or weight test behind this guide, so neither product is presented as a measured performance winner. The useful comparison is which documented features match the way you use your iPad, followed by a careful check of the exact model listing and software requirement before purchase.

The two documented keyboard cases for iPad (10th generation)

The 10th-generation iPad has a different physical design from several earlier iPad generations. A case that fits another 10.2-inch or 10.9-inch model is not automatically compatible. The safest starting point is a listing that explicitly names iPad (10th generation) or iPad (10th Gen).

Check compatibility before comparing features

Confirm the iPad generation

Look for the exact wording iPad (10th generation) in the product title, compatibility list or technical specifications. Logitech’s model-specific specification names “iPad (10th Gen)” as a system requirement. Apple’s technical page lists iPad (10th generation) as compatible with Magic Keyboard Folio.

Do not rely on a photograph, a seller’s generic phrase such as “for iPad,” or the screen-size description alone. Apple’s accessories pages list multiple keyboard products and iPad generations, so a familiar product name can still refer to a different model. The regional Apple accessories listing is useful for checking the exact generation named on a listing: Apple’s iPad (10th generation) keyboard accessories page.

Check the operating-system requirement

Apple states that Magic Keyboard Folio requires iPadOS 18.3 or later. If your iPad is on an older release, update it before assuming the keyboard is defective. On the iPad, open Settings > General > Software Update, install an available update, restart if requested, and then attach the keyboard again.

The Logitech specification identifies the iPad (10th Gen) as the compatible system and says the keyboard is powered by the iPad through Smart Connector. Because compatibility pages and software requirements can change, check the current manufacturer page and the exact listing on the day you order.

Check regional listing details

Availability, layout, stock and seller support can differ by country. Verify the keyboard layout you need, the return policy and whether the listing is for the 10th-generation model rather than a visually similar case for another iPad. No current price is stated here because prices and promotions vary by region and date.

Apple Magic Keyboard Folio: what it offers

Two-piece protection and a removable keyboard

Magic Keyboard Folio is documented as a two-piece case: a protective back panel remains on the iPad while the keyboard section can be detached. That arrangement is useful when you want protection during transport but do not want a keyboard in your hands for reading, drawing or touch-first games.

The detachable design also changes how you should think about the case. It is not simply a permanently attached keyboard slab. You can remove the keyboard portion and continue using the iPad with the back panel and stand arrangement, provided the configuration is supported by the case’s design.

Trackpad and 14-key function row

Apple lists an integrated trackpad and a 14-key function row. The function row gives dedicated controls above the number row rather than requiring every system action to be reached through an on-screen menu or a modifier shortcut. That can be valuable if you regularly adjust brightness, volume or other iPad controls while typing, although the manufacturer specification does not measure how quickly or comfortably those controls work in practice.

The trackpad lets you use pointer-based navigation without reaching for the display for every selection. The specification confirms its presence but does not provide dimensions, surface material, click mechanism or accuracy measurements, so those qualities should not be inferred from the feature list.

Adjustable stand

The folio includes an adjustable stand. Apple’s specification does not state a numeric angle range, so do not assume it offers the same range as another case. In a shop or when the item arrives, check whether the available positions suit your desk, lap and video-viewing habits.

Apple’s own description

Apple calls Magic Keyboard Folio “the perfect iPad companion.” That is Apple’s promotional product description, not an independent assessment. The independently useful facts are the documented compatibility, detachable two-piece construction, trackpad, function row and adjustable stand.

Who should consider it

  • Choose it when the 14-key function row is important to your workflow.
  • Choose it when you want a detachable keyboard paired with a separate protective back panel.
  • Choose it when an Apple-documented accessory and the stated iPadOS 18.3-or-later requirement fit your setup.
  • Look elsewhere if backlit keys are a must-have; Apple’s cited specification does not list backlighting.

Logitech Combo Touch for iPad (10th Gen): what it offers

Backlit, detachable keyboard

Logitech documents a detachable backlit keyboard. Backlighting is the clearest feature-based reason to favor Combo Touch if you type in a dim room, on a flight or beside a sleeping partner. The specification confirms that the keys are backlit, but it does not state brightness levels, color options, automatic lighting behavior or battery duration. Treat those as questions to verify in the current listing rather than assumed specifications.

The keyboard detaches from the case, allowing a tablet-only configuration when you do not need physical keys. That is particularly useful for reading, drawing or using the iPad as a tablet without removing the entire protective case.

Trackpad and Smart Connector power

Combo Touch includes a trackpad and uses the iPad’s Smart Connector for power, according to Logitech’s specification. Smart Connector power means the documented design does not require you to manage a separate keyboard charging cable for normal operation. It also means the connector and contact points need to be seated correctly; a loose connection can make the keyboard appear unresponsive.

The source does not describe Bluetooth pairing, battery capacity or charging behavior. Do not buy it expecting a particular wireless mode unless the current listing explicitly states one.

20–60 degrees of viewing flexibility

Logitech specifies viewing angles from 20 to 60 degrees. That range gives you a documented choice between a more upright typing or viewing position and a lower angle for touch interaction. The figure is a technical specification, not a measurement of stability on every surface. A soft lap, uneven table or heavy touch input can feel different from a rigid desk.

Front, back and corner protection

Logitech lists protection for the front, back and corners. This is broader coverage than a keyboard-only accessory, but the specification does not assign a drop rating, water-resistance rating or military-standard test result. Use the protection claim as coverage information, not as a guarantee against every fall or impact.

Who should consider it

  • Choose it when illuminated keys are a priority.
  • Choose it when you want a detachable keyboard plus a documented 20–60-degree stand range.
  • Choose it when front, back and corner coverage matters for carrying the iPad between rooms or locations.
  • Choose it when Smart Connector power suits you better than maintaining a separate keyboard battery.

Which one fits your priorities?

Your priority Feature documented for Apple Magic Keyboard Folio Feature documented for Logitech Combo Touch How to decide
Backlit typing Not stated on the cited Apple specification Backlit keyboard Favor Combo Touch if you regularly type in low light.
Function keys 14-key function row Not stated in the cited Logitech specification Favor Magic Keyboard Folio if a dedicated function row is central to your workflow.
Detachable keyboard Yes Yes Both documented options support removing the keyboard section.
Trackpad Yes Yes Neither has a feature-list advantage on this point.
Viewing adjustment Adjustable stand; numeric range not stated 20–60 degrees Favor Combo Touch if a stated angle range helps you plan your setup.
Protection description Protective back panel in a two-piece case Front, back and corner protection Favor Combo Touch if the broader documented coverage matches your carrying needs.
Power description Not stated in the cited Apple summary Powered through Smart Connector Favor Combo Touch if the documented power method is important; verify Apple’s current technical details before ordering its case.
Software requirement iPadOS 18.3 or later Compatible with iPad (10th Gen), according to Logitech’s specification Check your iPadOS version before selecting Magic Keyboard Folio.

This is a feature-match decision, not a claim that one keyboard is objectively superior. The available specifications do not include controlled typing tests, long-term reliability data, measured weight, key travel, noise, trackpad responsiveness or total cost of ownership.

How to verify and set up your keyboard

  1. Identify the iPad. On the iPad, open Settings > General > About and confirm that the model information identifies the 10th-generation iPad. If the wording is unclear, use the model number shown there to check Apple’s current support information before buying.
  2. Check the listing title and compatibility section. It should explicitly say “iPad (10th generation)” for Apple’s case or “iPad (10th Gen)” for Logitech’s case. Do not rely only on a seller’s category or a product photograph.
  3. Update iPadOS for Apple’s case. Magic Keyboard Folio requires iPadOS 18.3 or later. Install the current available update under Settings > General > Software Update before troubleshooting the physical connection.
  4. Inspect the case and connector. Remove packaging, check that the iPad sits fully in the protective section and make sure the keyboard connector and contact points are clean and aligned. Do not force the iPad into a case designed for another generation.
  5. Attach the keyboard section. Seat the detachable keyboard as shown in the manufacturer’s instructions. For Combo Touch, the Smart Connector must make contact for the keyboard to receive power.
  6. Test the basic functions. Type in a new note, move the pointer with the trackpad, try the stand at several positions and, for Combo Touch, test the backlight in a dim room. For Magic Keyboard Folio, test the function row and confirm that the stand holds the angle you need.
  7. Keep the documentation and packaging until the fit is confirmed. If the model, layout or connector does not match the listing, stop using it and arrange a return or exchange rather than adapting the case with pressure or modifications.

Common problems and practical fixes

The keyboard does not respond

  • Remove and reattach the keyboard so the connector is fully seated.
  • Check that the iPad is correctly positioned in the case and that no protective film or debris blocks the contacts.
  • Restart the iPad, then test again.
  • For Magic Keyboard Folio, confirm that iPadOS is 18.3 or later.
  • For Combo Touch, remember that Logitech documents Smart Connector power; a separate keyboard charge may not be the relevant fix.

The case does not fit

Stop immediately if camera openings, buttons, magnets or connector contacts do not line up. A case for another generation can look close while still damaging the iPad or preventing a reliable connection. Recheck the exact model name on the receipt and the manufacturer’s compatibility page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The stand feels unsuitable

Combo Touch has a documented 20–60-degree range, while Apple’s cited specification only says the Magic Keyboard Folio stand is adjustable. If you need a specific desk or lap angle, test the available positions during the return period. Do not treat the Logitech range as proof that the stand will be equally stable on every surface.

The typing experience is not what you expected

Neither manufacturer specification supplies key-travel measurements, noise levels, typing-speed results or comfort testing. If those factors decide your purchase, use a retailer with a clear return policy and evaluate the keyboard with your own writing, email and shortcut workload rather than relying on the feature list.

What the specifications do—and do not—tell you

The documented features answer compatibility and configuration questions: both products are made for the 10th-generation iPad, both have detachable keyboards and trackpads, Apple lists a 14-key function row, Logitech lists backlighting and Smart Connector power, and Logitech provides a 20–60-degree viewing range. They do not establish a measured winner for comfort, speed, durability or value.

They also do not establish every feature a product may have. A feature missing from a short specification summary should be treated as not stated, not automatically as absent. This is especially important for items such as backlighting on Apple’s case, function keys on Logitech’s case, battery behavior, weight, water resistance and detailed keyboard layouts.

Buying checklist

  • Confirm the listing names iPad (10th generation), not merely “iPad” or a screen size.
  • For Magic Keyboard Folio, confirm that your iPad can run iPadOS 18.3 or later.
  • Choose Magic Keyboard Folio for its documented two-piece design, trackpad, 14-key function row and adjustable stand.
  • Choose Combo Touch for its documented backlighting, detachable keyboard, Smart Connector power, 20–60-degree viewing range and front/back/corner protection.
  • Verify the keyboard layout, seller, return terms, regional availability and current stock.
  • Do not infer typing quality, durability, weight or value from manufacturer feature lists.

Bottom line: choose by the feature you will use every day

For an iPad 10th-generation owner, the defensible shortlist is Apple Magic Keyboard Folio and Logitech Combo Touch for iPad (10th Gen). Magic Keyboard Folio is the more natural fit when Apple’s documented function row and two-piece folio design are your priorities. Combo Touch is the more natural fit when backlit keys, a 20–60-degree stand range, Smart Connector power and broader protective coverage matter most. Verify the exact generation and current software requirement before checkout, because compatibility—not the product name alone—is what determines whether the keyboard will work.
