There is no single universal Intel HD Audio Driver for Windows 11. The correct download depends on which audio device your PC uses.
Intel’s audio component is commonly included with an Intel graphics driver and may appear in Device Manager as Intel(R) Display Audio or Intel High Definition Audio. However, built-in laptop speakers, microphones, and headphone jacks are often controlled by an OEM audio device such as Realtek. For those devices, use the Windows 11 driver supplied by your computer manufacturer.
Identify the Intel audio device first
Before downloading anything, check the device name in Windows 11:
- Select Start, type Device Manager, and open it.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Look for one of these entries:
| Device Manager entry | What it usually controls | Where to get the driver |
|---|---|---|
| Intel(R) Display Audio | Audio sent through an HDMI or DisplayPort connection from Intel graphics | Your PC manufacturer first, or the applicable Intel graphics driver |
| Intel High Definition Audio | An Intel audio component associated with Intel graphics | Your PC manufacturer first, or the applicable Intel graphics driver |
| Realtek Audio, Realtek High Definition Audio, or a similar OEM device | Internal speakers, microphone, and headphone jack on many PCs | Your computer manufacturer’s support page |
| High Definition Audio Device | Microsoft’s generic audio driver | Windows or the hardware manufacturer |
Intel HD Graphics and Intel HD Audio are not the same Device Manager device. An Intel graphics package can install Intel Display Audio, while the physical speaker and headphone codec is supplied by another manufacturer.
#1 Best Overall
- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Use Windows Update first
Windows Update is Microsoft’s recommended driver-update method and is the safest first step for most Windows 11 systems.
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates and restart the PC.
- Return to Windows Update, open Advanced options > Optional updates, and check for driver updates if that section is available.
An audio driver may be listed as an optional or recommended update rather than as a normal Windows update.
Download the correct Windows 11 driver from the PC manufacturer
For a laptop or prebuilt desktop, the manufacturer’s package is normally the right choice. OEM packages can contain customizations for the system’s speakers, microphone, headphone jack, audio console, amplifier, and power-management settings.
- Find the exact computer model or product number. It may be printed on the case or shown in Settings > System > About.
- Open the manufacturer’s official support site.
- Search for the model or enter its serial number.
- Choose Windows 11 as the operating system.
- Download the latest package under Audio, Sound, or sometimes Chipset.
- Run the downloaded installer and restart Windows when prompted.
Do not install a driver just because its name contains “Intel.” If Device Manager lists Realtek for the internal audio device, install the Realtek package from the PC manufacturer instead.
When to use Intel’s graphics driver
Intel documents Intel Display Audio and Intel High Definition Audio as components packaged with Intel graphics drivers. This matters particularly when HDMI or DisplayPort audio is missing after a graphics-driver change.

- Power source type: Corded Electric
- Easy Headphone connectivity -- Compatible with all analog headsets, from standard mobile phone earbuds to gaming and studio-grade headphones; Connect your headsets with single or split stereo/mic connector easily without the use of a Y-splitter cable
- Powerful downloadable software -- control panel software gives powerful Audio Enhancements and unprecedented control; Also includes optimized profiles for multiple earphone brands
- No drivers needed -- works straight out of the box
Intel recommends checking the computer manufacturer first because its graphics package may be customized or packaged differently. If the OEM does not provide a usable driver, use the Intel Driver & Support Assistant or Intel’s official download center to find the applicable Intel Graphics Windows DCH Driver for the processor or graphics hardware.
Intel’s documented reinstall sequence is:
- In Device Manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click Intel(R) Display Audio or Intel High Definition Audio.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Select Attempt to remove the driver for this device if the checkbox is offered.
- Select Uninstall and restart the PC.
- Install the applicable Intel graphics Windows DCH driver.
- If necessary, return to Device Manager and use the manual driver-selection procedure below.
Intel’s commonly referenced article for this procedure is titled Error: “No Audio Output Device is Installed” After Windows® 10 Update. It is not a Windows 11-specific driver specification, so use it as troubleshooting guidance rather than as proof that every Windows 11 PC needs an Intel audio download.

Update the driver through Device Manager
Use this method when Windows Update has not found a driver or when a particular audio entry has a warning icon.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected audio device.
- Select Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows after installation.
If Windows reports that “the best drivers for your device are already installed,” that does not guarantee that the driver is the newest version available. A newer package may still be available from the PC or audio-device manufacturer.
Manually select an installed audio driver
If the automatic search does not repair the device, use the current Windows 11 manual path:

This can also be used to test Microsoft’s generic fallback driver:
- Open the manual driver list using the path above.
- Select High Definition Audio Device if it is listed.
- Choose Next and complete the installation.
- Restart the computer.
The generic driver can restore basic sound, but it may not support every OEM feature, including audio enhancements, jack detection, special microphone processing, or a manufacturer audio application. Replace it with the manufacturer’s package when one is available.
Reinstall the audio driver
Reinstalling is useful when the device stopped working after an incomplete installation or a corrupted driver.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected audio device and select Uninstall device.
- Select Attempt to remove the driver for this device, if shown. Some Windows builds or dialogs may use the older wording Delete the driver software for this device.
- Select Uninstall.
- Restart the PC.
Windows normally redetects the audio hardware and reinstalls a driver after the restart. If it does not, install the downloaded OEM or Intel graphics package manually.

To display devices that are not currently present, select Device Manager > View > Show hidden devices. This is most useful for disconnected or previously installed hardware. A physically detachable audio device can be rediscovered immediately if it remains plugged in; that warning generally does not apply to permanently integrated laptop audio.
Roll back a driver after an update
If sound stopped immediately after Windows Update or a driver installation, rolling back may be faster than finding a new package.
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected audio device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver and confirm the reason if Windows asks.
- Restart the PC.
The Roll Back Driver button is available only when Windows has retained a previous driver version. Update-related audio failures can be caused by an incompatible or partially installed driver, but they can also occur when Windows audio services fail to start.
Fix “No audio output device is installed”
Try these steps in order:
- Check Settings > System > Sound and select the correct output device.
- Disconnect Bluetooth headsets, monitors, docks, and USB audio devices temporarily to rule out the wrong output.
- Run the automated audio troubleshooter in the Get Help app.
- Check Device Manager for a warning icon or a missing device.
- Install the PC manufacturer’s Windows 11 audio package.
- If the missing device is Intel(R) Display Audio, reinstall the applicable Intel graphics package.
- Restart the audio services.
Restart the Windows audio services
- Open Start Search, type
services.msc, and press Enter. - Right-click Windows Audio and select Restart.
- Right-click Windows Audio Endpoint Builder and select Restart.
- If the problem continues, restart Remote Procedure Call (RPC) if Windows allows the action.
These services must be running for normal Windows audio playback and device management.
Which Intel HD Audio driver should you install?
| Your situation | Recommended action |
|---|---|
| Internal speakers or headphone jack do not work | Install the exact Windows 11 audio driver from the PC manufacturer. |
| HDMI or DisplayPort audio is missing | Check for Intel(R) Display Audio and install the OEM graphics package or applicable Intel graphics driver. |
| Device Manager shows Realtek | Use the manufacturer’s Realtek or OEM audio driver, not a generic Intel download. |
| Driver disappeared after Windows Update | Try Roll Back Driver, reinstall the OEM package, and restart the audio services. |
| No manufacturer driver works | Use the manual driver list and test High Definition Audio Device as a temporary fallback. |
Windows 10 ended support on October 14, 2025. If an older Intel page refers mainly to Windows 10, do not assume it is a current Windows 11 driver page; prefer Windows Update and the manufacturer’s Windows 11 support package.

FAQ
Is there an Intel HD Audio Driver download for Windows 11?
There is no universal download for every PC. Intel Display Audio and Intel High Definition Audio are generally distributed with Intel graphics drivers, while internal speakers and headphone jacks often require the computer manufacturer’s audio package.
Why does Device Manager show Intel(R) Display Audio instead of Intel HD Audio?
Intel documents Intel(R) Display Audio as a possible device name. It usually handles audio sent over HDMI or DisplayPort through Intel graphics. The PC’s internal speaker codec may be listed separately, often under an OEM name such as Realtek.
Should I download an Intel audio driver or a Realtek driver?
Match the package to the device listed in Device Manager. Use the OEM audio driver for Realtek or other built-in audio devices. Use the applicable Intel graphics package for Intel Display Audio.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Will the generic High Definition Audio Device driver fix the problem?
It may restore basic sound when the normal driver fails, but it can omit manufacturer features such as audio enhancements, jack detection, and microphone processing. Treat it as a fallback, not the preferred permanent driver.
What should I do if Windows says the best driver is already installed?
Check the computer manufacturer’s support page anyway. Microsoft notes that a newer driver may be available from the manufacturer even when Device Manager reports that the best driver is already installed.
Why is Roll Back Driver unavailable?
Windows enables Roll Back Driver only when a previous driver version is available on the system.
The Bottom Line
For Windows 11, do not search for a generic “Intel HD Audio” installer and assume it fits the PC. Identify the device first. Use Windows Update, then the exact OEM Windows 11 audio package for internal speakers and jacks. If Device Manager specifically lists Intel(R) Display Audio or Intel High Definition Audio, the required component is normally part of the applicable Intel graphics package. Reinstall, roll back, or use the generic High Definition Audio Device driver only when the normal package does not resolve the fault.
