There is no universal winner among Intel Arc, AMD Radeon and Nvidia GeForce. The best choice depends on the exact cards, the games you play, your resolution and settings, and whether you care about conventional rasterized performance or hardware ray tracing. Upscaling can change the result substantially, so a fair comparison must identify whether it uses native rendering, FSR, DLSS or XeSS and which quality mode. Driver support is similarly model- and game-specific: check the current release notes for your card, game and operating system rather than relying on a brand reputation.

Quick answer: which GPU family should you buy?

Use the following as a starting point, not a brand-wide ranking. A card that leads in one game or rendering mode can trail in another.

Priority What to favor Why Evidence and limits
Highest conventional (rasterized) frame rate The specific card that wins your game benchmarks at your target resolution Raster performance varies by model, game engine and settings; the logo on the cooler is not a reliable predictor. ComputerBase’s 2026 suite reports separate results across 19 rasterization games.
Ray-traced effects A model with strong hardware ray-tracing performance and a suitable upscaler Ray tracing changes the workload. A card that is excellent in rasterization may lose ground when reflections, shadows or global illumination are enabled. ComputerBase tested hardware ray tracing in 17 games and four additional ray-tracing-only titles.
Budget 1440p gaming A well-priced card with enough VRAM and stable support for your game list Intel Arc B580 is described by TechRadar as a budget-oriented 1440p card with 12GB of GDDR6. TechRadar measured a 92 FPS average across 8–10 PC titles; that is one review’s result, not a guarantee.
1440p with a larger memory cushion A 16GB model such as Radeon RX 9070 XT or RX 9070, provided the price fits More VRAM can help with high-resolution textures and future games, although capacity alone does not determine speed. AMD lists both cards with 16GB GDDR6 and presents them as 1440p options; this is vendor positioning.
Predictable laptop or all-in-one operation The driver package recommended for the exact system, often the OEM package Manufacturer-specific power, display, hotkey and sleep features can depend on customized drivers. Intel and AMD both distinguish generic drivers from OEM drivers for some systems.

Why brand-level comparisons are misleading

Model tiers do not line up automatically

“Arc,” “Radeon” and “GeForce” are families, not performance classes. Compare an Arc B580 with cards in the same price and power range, not with an entire Radeon or GeForce catalog. The 2026 ComputerBase suite includes Arc B580, Radeon RX 9060 XT, Radeon RX 9070 XT and multiple GeForce RTX 5000 and 4000 cards. That is a useful cross-section, but it is not an exhaustive comparison of every tier or board partner variant.

Your game mix matters more than an aggregate score

An average across many titles can hide a large advantage or disadvantage in the games you actually play. Competitive games may be limited by the CPU at 1080p, while a visually demanding single-player game at 4K can be limited by shader throughput, memory bandwidth or ray-tracing units. Record frame rates for your own library before treating a review average as a buying decision.

Rasterization and ray tracing are different tests

Rasterization is the conventional rendering path used by most games. Hardware ray tracing adds physically modeled lighting effects and can change the relative order of cards. Never combine a raster score and a ray-tracing score into one unexplained number. A useful review shows both modes, the game settings, the resolution and the exact driver.

What the current independent testing actually shows

ComputerBase’s 2026 test suite

ComputerBase updated its suite in 2026 for GeForce RTX 5000 and 4000, Radeon RX 9000 and 7000, and Intel Arc. The suite contains 23 games: 19 rasterization tests, 17 games that also include hardware ray-tracing tests, and four ray-tracing-only games. The publication records the tested card and driver versions. Because the game list, drivers and upscaling technologies were updated, ComputerBase says the resulting ratings changed; an older chart is not automatically comparable with the new one.

The suite uses Super Resolution techniques including AMD FSR, Nvidia DLSS and Intel XeSS where a title supports them. If a game lacks a newer method, an older alternative may be used. That matters because the same nominal frame rate can have different image quality, ghosting, sharpening and latency characteristics. Frame generation is omitted from the referenced suite, so its FPS figures should not be mixed with results that insert generated frames.

How to read those charts

  • Confirm that the chart is for your resolution and preset, not a different quality level.
  • Separate native rendering from an upscaled result.
  • Check whether ray tracing is enabled and which effects are active.
  • Read the driver version beside the card name.
  • Look for frame-time or low-percentile data when smoothness matters; an average FPS number alone does not describe stutter.

Model examples and what they do—and do not—prove

Card or family example Published specification or result How to use the information
Intel Arc B580 12GB GDDR6; TechRadar describes it as a budget-oriented 1440p card and recorded a 92 FPS average across 8–10 PC titles. Useful evidence for a budget 1440p shortlist. The average comes from one review and does not establish performance in every game or against every competing model.
AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT Included in ComputerBase’s 2026 cross-vendor suite. Use the suite’s game-by-game results and the card’s tested driver; the cited ComputerBase suite does not establish a universal ranking or a single representative FPS.
AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 AMD lists 16GB GDDR6 on each and positions them for 1440p gaming. VRAM and 1440p positioning are relevant buying criteria, but AMD’s product page is not an independent performance ranking.
GeForce RTX 4000 and 5000 families Included in the same ComputerBase suite. Compare the exact RTX model under the same game, settings, upscaler and driver conditions; family inclusion alone does not establish a lead.

Upscaling can change the apparent winner

Native rendering versus FSR, DLSS and XeSS

Native rendering draws the selected output resolution directly. Super Resolution renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the output. FSR, DLSS and XeSS have different support matrices and image-reconstruction behavior. A benchmark that reports “1440p” may therefore mean native 2560×1440 or an internally lower resolution reconstructed to 1440p.

When comparing cards, write down the method and mode—for example, native, Quality or Balanced—and keep those settings identical. Do not assume that a feature available on one GPU is available, or equally good, on another. The ComputerBase suite specifically warns that upscaling quality differs and that a title without a newer upscaler may use an older alternative.

Frame generation is a separate measurement

Frame generation creates additional displayed frames rather than rendering every frame traditionally. It can raise the reported FPS while leaving input latency and base-frame performance governed by the underlying render path. The referenced ComputerBase results omit frame generation. If another review enables it, label those numbers separately instead of treating them as directly comparable.

Driver support: judge the exact game and system

Intel Arc drivers

Intel’s official Arc Graphics Windows driver page distinguishes generic Intel packages from OEM-customized packages. Intel says its generic driver provides newer feature enhancements and bug fixes that computer manufacturers may not yet have customized. Installing that package overwrites the OEM driver. Generic drivers can be appropriate for a self-built desktop, but an OEM package may preserve system-specific display behavior, power profiles, hotkeys or other integrations.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Intel page also lists supported game launches and game-specific performance-uplift figures. Treat those as Intel’s own claims with the configuration stated on the page, not as universal gains for every Arc card, processor or driver version. Before updating, note your current driver, create a restore point if your system is mission-critical, and keep the previous installer available in case a title regresses.

AMD Radeon drivers

AMD’s Adrenalin 26.5.2 release notes, updated May 14, 2026, list new game support, fixed issues and known issues. The notes name fixes involving RoadCraft and Satisfactory and list open issues affecting Battlefield 6 and other applications. This illustrates why “AMD drivers are good” or “AMD drivers are bad” is too broad: the relevant question is whether the current release fixes or introduces a problem in your game.

AMD also advises OEM drivers for some laptops and all-in-one systems where manufacturer-specific features matter. On a desktop assembled from standard components, the current Adrenalin package is normally the relevant branch; on a laptop, check the system manufacturer’s guidance before replacing it.

Nvidia GeForce drivers

The available evidence does not include an official Nvidia release-note page, so it cannot support a fair claim about Nvidia’s driver cadence, issue rate or support duration relative to Intel or AMD. Use the same discipline: read the release notes for the exact GeForce model and game, verify the operating-system requirements, and compare results made with the same driver generation.

A repeatable buying process

  1. Set the target. Choose 1080p, 1440p or 4K; define a target such as 60, 120 or 144 FPS; and list the games that matter.
  2. Separate rendering modes. Decide whether you require native rendering, ray tracing, or an upscaler. If you use an upscaler, select a quality mode before comparing cards.
  3. Shortlist exact models. Compare cards in the same price and power class. Include VRAM, cooler size, power connectors, warranty and case clearance.
  4. Use a consistent test source. Prefer charts that disclose CPU, game version, settings, driver and whether frame generation is disabled.
  5. Check game-specific driver notes. Search the current Intel, AMD or Nvidia notes for your game and GPU. Look for both fixes and known issues.
  6. Verify your system constraints. Confirm power-supply capacity, connector type, case length, slot thickness, monitor outputs and operating-system support.
  7. Compare total value. Include the card’s current street price, electricity and any required accessories. No current prices are established here, so verify them at the time of purchase.

How to test two cards on your own PC

Prepare a controlled baseline

  • Use the same CPU, memory configuration, Windows build, game version and monitor.
  • Install one driver cleanly, reboot, and record the version.
  • Use identical graphics settings, resolution, upscaler mode and ray-tracing toggles.
  • Allow shader compilation to finish and repeat each run enough times to identify an outlier.

Record more than average FPS

Capture average FPS and a low-percentile result such as the 1% low, plus frame-time graphs if your tool provides them. Note visible artifacts, traversal stutter, shader-compilation pauses and input response. A card that posts a higher average but suffers severe spikes may feel worse in play.

Test both native and upscaled paths

Run native rendering first, then the upscaler mode you would actually use. Keep the internal resolution and sharpening settings documented. If you enable ray tracing, repeat the same scene with it off so you can see the cost of the lighting effects rather than attributing it to the card generally.

Common pitfalls and fixes

Comparing mismatched settings

Symptom: one review appears dramatically faster but uses a lower preset or an aggressive upscaler. Fix: align resolution, preset, ray tracing, upscaler and sharpening before reading the difference.

Using an OEM laptop driver as if it were a desktop driver

Symptom: brightness controls, sleep behavior, hotkeys or external displays fail after an update. Fix: reinstall the laptop or all-in-one manufacturer’s package; Intel and AMD both note that OEM customization can matter.

Assuming a launch driver represents current support

Symptom: an old review reports a bug that no longer appears, or a new game has a problem absent from launch coverage. Fix: read the current release notes and record the driver used by any benchmark you cite.

Treating VRAM as a performance guarantee

Symptom: a card with more memory is expected to be faster in every title. Fix: use VRAM as a capacity and texture-setting consideration alongside shader performance, bandwidth, ray-tracing capability and price.

Blending frame-generated FPS with rendered FPS

Symptom: two charts show very different FPS for apparently identical settings. Fix: check whether frame generation is enabled. The referenced ComputerBase suite omits it.

Resolution-specific guidance

1080p

At 1080p, a fast CPU can become the limiting factor, especially in competitive games. Look for CPU-limited test results and prioritize consistent frame times, low latency and the features your monitor supports. A large GPU upgrade may produce little benefit if the processor is already the bottleneck.

1440p

1440p is where the cited examples are aimed. TechRadar describes Arc B580 as a budget 1440p card, while AMD positions RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 as 1440p options and lists 16GB GDDR6 for each. Compare the actual game charts, because those descriptions do not prove equal performance or value. Check VRAM use at your texture settings and leave headroom for background applications if you stream or record.

4K

4K places greater pressure on shader throughput, memory bandwidth and capacity. Use native and upscaled results separately, and test ray tracing only if you intend to use it. AMD’s disclosed RX 9070 XT test covered six named games at 4K in February 2025 on a Ryzen 7 9800X3D system with driver 25.3.1. Those are vendor-lab results, not a neutral cross-vendor ranking; retain the hardware, date and driver qualification when using them.

What “best performance for the money” really means

Calculate value at the settings you will keep, not at a headline FPS number. For example, divide the card’s current price by the average FPS in your selected game set, then check whether the cheaper card requires a lower texture preset, a more aggressive upscaler or reduced ray tracing. Include the cost of a suitable power supply and the practical value of quieter cooling or a smaller cooler if your case is compact. Because prices and stock change, there is no permanent winner by price-per-frame.

AMD identifies video memory, compute units, performance per dollar and upscaling as decision axes for its RX 9070 family. Those are sensible categories to track, but AMD’s figures remain vendor claims. Pair them with independent, same-method charts before deciding.

Driver-update checklist

  • Identify the exact GPU model and whether the computer is an OEM laptop, all-in-one or self-built desktop.
  • Read the current release notes for your main games, not only the feature list.
  • Check known issues before updating on a tournament, work or streaming system.
  • Save the previous driver installer and note your current version.
  • After updating, test one saved scene in each important game and watch for stutter, crashes, visual corruption and changed upscaler behavior.
  • If a problem appears, roll back to the known-good package or use the OEM package where the manufacturer requires it.

Bottom line

Choose the exact Intel Arc, AMD Radeon or Nvidia GeForce card that meets your games’ measured requirements at your chosen resolution and settings. Keep rasterization and ray tracing in separate columns, disclose native versus FSR, DLSS or XeSS rendering, and exclude frame-generated FPS from ordinary render-rate comparisons. For support, read the latest driver notes for the card, game and system: Intel’s generic-versus-OEM distinction and AMD’s detailed Adrenalin fixes and known issues show why model- and game-level evidence is more useful than a blanket brand verdict.
