For most Windows PCs with Intel Arc graphics, install the matching package from Intel or your computer maker, restart, and verify the driver version in Windows. Use the manufacturer’s package when the laptop or prebuilt PC relies on custom graphics behavior; use Intel’s generic package when you need Intel’s newer fixes or features and accept that it can replace those customizations. Reserve a clean install for failed installations or persistent driver conflicts, and follow Intel’s BIOS-plus-Safe-Mode cleanup procedure for the specific crashes it documents after an update.
What the current Intel Arc driver supports
Intel’s Arc Windows download page listed package 32.0.101.9150 WHQL Certified when accessed on October 13, 2026. That listing covered Intel Arc B-Series and A-Series graphics, as well as Intel Core Ultra processors with Arc graphics. The supported operating systems shown were Windows 11 Family and Windows 10 (22H2).
That version is a time-stamped listing, not a permanent recommendation. Intel changes driver packages, supported hardware and operating-system requirements. Before downloading, open the live Intel Arc graphics download page and confirm the current version, your exact GPU or processor model and your Windows edition.
Intel’s page also advertises game-specific results, not universal benchmarks. For example, it reports up to a 5% average-FPS uplift at 1080p with Medium settings in F1 25 on Core Ultra Series 3 compared with driver 31.0.101.9034, and up to a 6% uplift at 1440p with High settings in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on Arc B-Series against that driver. These are Intel’s own claims under the stated hardware, game, settings and comparison-driver conditions; they are not independent tests or a guarantee for another system.

Intel generic driver or your PC maker’s driver?
The download decision matters most on laptops and branded desktop systems. Intel’s generic package is intended to deliver Intel’s latest feature updates and fixes, while an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) package may contain platform-specific changes, power-management behavior, display switching, hotkey integration or validated firmware combinations.
Intel warns on its download page: “Installing this Intel generic graphics driver will overwrite your handpicked OEM graphics driver.” Its clean-install guidance likewise says: “To avoid potential installation incompatibilities, we recommend that you check first with your computer manufacturer and use the driver software provided by them.”
| Choice | Use it when | Main benefit | Main risk or limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Computer manufacturer’s validated package | Your laptop or prebuilt uses custom display, power, docking or graphics-switching features; the system is under corporate support. | Configuration tested for that exact platform, firmware and Windows image. | May lag behind Intel’s release and omit newer generic fixes or features. |
| Intel generic package | You need Intel’s current feature or game fixes and your system does not depend on an OEM-only customization. | Direct access to Intel’s current Arc package. | It can overwrite the OEM driver and may expose compatibility problems on a particular platform. |
Corporate-managed computers should stay with the OEM driver and support channel; Intel directs business customers to their platform vendor. If a manufacturer’s support page specifically requires its graphics package, install that package first rather than forcing a generic replacement.
How to identify your Arc GPU and Windows version
Do this before selecting a download. A similar product name is not enough: an Arc discrete card, an integrated Arc GPU in a Core Ultra processor and an older integrated Intel GPU can require different packages.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
msinfo32, and press Enter. In System Information, note OS Name and Version. Windows 10 must be version 22H2 for the package listed above. - Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager. Expand Display adapters and record the complete Intel Arc model name. If an adapter has a warning icon, record its error code before changing anything.
- For a second confirmation, open Settings > System > Display > Advanced display > Display adapter properties. The Adapter tab shows the adapter name and installed driver details.
- Check whether the computer maker publishes a driver for the exact model or service tag. On a laptop, this check is especially important because display switching and sleep behavior can depend on the validated package.
Save the currently installed driver version from Device Manager > Display adapters > Intel Arc adapter > Properties > Driver. Having the version and date recorded makes a rollback or support case much easier.
How do I install Intel Arc graphics drivers?
Standard installation from Intel
- Confirm the Arc model and Windows version against the live Intel download listing. If the manufacturer’s package is the supported choice for your computer, download that package instead.
- Download the matching Windows executable from Intel’s Download Center. Keep the file in a location you can find again; do not run a package intended for a different Arc product.
- Close games, video editors, browser windows playing protected video and other graphics-intensive applications. A display may flicker or briefly go black while the driver is replaced.
- Double-click the downloaded
.exe. If Windows asks for permission, choose Yes. Follow the installer’s license and component prompts. - Allow the installation to finish without powering off the computer. Restart when the installer requests it, even if the desktop appears to have returned normally.
- After rebooting, verify the result in Device Manager > Display adapters > Intel Arc adapter > Properties > Driver. Confirm that the new version is shown and that no warning icon appears.
If the installer offers a choice between an express and custom setup, retain only components you need. The graphics driver is the essential part; Intel’s package may also include additional software that is not required for Windows to use the GPU.

Updating a working installation
When games and the desktop are stable, treat an update as a normal installation rather than immediately deleting the existing driver. Download the new matching package, run it, restart when prompted and test the applications that matter to you. Keep the previous package available until you have confirmed that sleep, external monitors, hardware-accelerated video and your usual games work.

How do I clean install an Intel Arc driver?
A clean install is a repair step, not a requirement for every update. Intel’s documented clean-install option removes older driver files, resets Intel graphics settings to defaults and clears the shader cache. Resetting settings means custom per-game profiles, scaling choices or color adjustments may need to be configured again.
Use Intel’s installer clean-install checkbox first
- Identify the exact Arc product and download its appropriate Windows package.
- Run the package’s
.exeand accept the license terms. - Choose the installer’s clean installation checkbox when it is displayed.
- Start the installation and wait for it to complete. The screen can blink or go dark temporarily.
- Restart when prompted. After Windows loads, verify the driver version and reapply any graphics settings you intentionally use.
If the checkbox is missing
Intel provides a manual Device Manager route. Disconnect the computer from the internet first so Windows Update is less likely to install a different driver while you are removing the old one.
- Open Device Manager, expand Display adapters, right-click the Intel Arc device and select Uninstall device.
- Enable Attempt to remove the driver for this device (the wording can vary slightly by Windows build), then confirm.
- Restart the computer and check Device Manager to confirm that the old Intel driver is gone or that Windows is using its basic display adapter.
- Run the downloaded Intel package and restart again when installation finishes.
Intel lists Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) as an option if its installer clean-install method does not resolve the problem. DDU is more disruptive than the built-in checkbox because it removes display-driver remnants outside the ordinary installer flow. Do not begin with DDU on a stable system without a specific reason and a recovery plan.

Why won’t my Intel Arc driver install?
An installer failure usually comes from a package mismatch, an OEM conflict, Windows replacing the driver during setup or a damaged system dependency. Work through these checks in order rather than repeatedly launching the same installer.

1. Confirm the package and platform
Recheck the full adapter name in Device Manager and the Windows release in msinfo32. A package for another Arc generation, another operating system or another architecture can fail even when the product names look similar. On a laptop, compare Intel’s package with the computer maker’s version before proceeding.
2. Prevent Windows from replacing the driver mid-installation
Disconnect Ethernet and Wi-Fi temporarily, then run the installer as administrator. Reconnect after the restart and after you have confirmed that the intended driver is installed. This is particularly useful during a manual removal and reinstall.
3. Update firmware and platform drivers
Intel’s Arc troubleshooting guidance says to obtain BIOS and chipset updates from the motherboard or computer manufacturer. Install only packages intended for the exact system model, and follow the manufacturer’s power and recovery instructions during a BIOS update.
4. Repair the Windows Desktop Runtime if requested
If the installer reports a Microsoft Windows Desktop Runtime problem, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, locate the relevant runtime, open its menu and choose Modify or Repair when Windows provides that option. Restart the installer afterward.
5. Install the driver through Device Manager as a fallback
Intel says you can extract the driver package and point Device Manager to the extracted folder: right-click the Arc adapter, choose Update driver, select Browse my computer for drivers, choose the extracted location and complete the wizard. This method installs the driver itself but does not install other software included in Intel’s package.
6. Remove the old driver only when the failure justifies it
If the normal installer and the preceding checks fail, use Intel’s clean-install flow. If that still fails, DDU can be used according to Intel’s troubleshooting guidance. Create a restore point or ensure you have a way to reach the manufacturer’s driver before removing a working display driver.

What to do about freezes, hangs, black screens or reboots after an update
Intel describes a particular failure pattern: system freezes, application hangs, black screens or spontaneous restarts accompanied by graphics-driver timeout detection and recovery (TDR) entries in Event Viewer. For that pattern, Intel’s documented procedure is more extensive than a routine reinstall.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Update the system BIOS using the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s instructions.
- Download DDU and prepare the Intel driver package you intend to reinstall. If you are unsure which package applies, Intel points users to Driver & Support Assistant.
- Boot Windows into Safe Mode. Use Windows recovery options or Settings > System > Recovery > Advanced startup to reach the startup choices.
- Run DDU in Safe Mode to remove the existing graphics driver, following its prompts.
- Restart into normal Windows.
- Install the same suitable driver or a newer suitable release, then restart and test the applications that previously triggered the failure.
This BIOS-and-DDU sequence is attached to the TDR-style post-update symptoms Intel describes. It is not a universal fix for every monitor problem, game crash or Windows display issue. If the failure began with a particular game, also check that game’s files, overlays and system requirements after the driver is stable.
How to roll back an Intel Arc driver
Windows can return to the previous package when the previous driver files are still present.
- Open Device Manager > Display adapters.
- Right-click the Intel Arc adapter and choose Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and select Roll Back Driver.
- Choose a reason, confirm and restart Windows.
If Roll Back Driver is unavailable, Windows no longer has the earlier package. Use the computer maker’s support page or Intel’s historical-driver listings to find an appropriate release, but verify that it supports your exact model and Windows version before installing it.
Can I download an older Intel Arc driver?
Availability changes. In an Intel article reviewed April 13, 2026, Intel said it had removed select Arc packages older than 32.0.101.6987 from the Download Center as of April 2026. That statement does not mean every older package is unavailable, nor does it promise that a particular version remains downloadable. Check Intel’s historical-driver page and the current Download Center listing.
For a laptop or branded desktop, the manufacturer may retain a validated older package even when Intel no longer lists it. Avoid third-party driver archives unless you can verify the file’s origin and integrity; an unofficial package can introduce a security or compatibility risk.
Quick Recap
Verify the installation and document the result
- In Device Manager, confirm the adapter has no warning icon and that the driver version and date match the package you intended to install.
- Open Settings > System > Display and confirm the expected resolution, refresh rate and monitor arrangement.
- Test sleep and wake, external displays, hardware-accelerated video and one or two applications that matter to your workload.
- If troubleshooting continues, record the Arc model, Windows version, driver version, BIOS version, whether the package was Intel generic or OEM, and the exact Event Viewer error. Those details prevent support from sending you through the same steps again.
A practical decision guide
| Situation | Recommended path | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Stable PC, routine update | Install the matching Intel or OEM package normally and restart. | A standard replacement is least disruptive. |
| Laptop with vendor-specific display or power features | Use the manufacturer’s validated package first. | It is tested for the platform’s firmware and customizations. |
| Installer error or remnants from several previous drivers | Use Intel’s clean-install checkbox; escalate to manual removal or DDU only if needed. | Clean installation resets settings and removes older driver components. |
| Post-update freezes, hangs, black screens or reboots with TDR entries | Update BIOS, run DDU in Safe Mode, reboot normally and reinstall a suitable driver. | This is Intel’s procedure for the documented crash pattern. |
| Need an older release | Try Windows Roll Back Driver, then Intel historical listings or the OEM archive. | Older Intel packages may have been removed, and availability changes. |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Installing by product family alone: verify the complete Arc model and Windows release.
- Ignoring the OEM warning: a generic Intel package can overwrite a validated laptop driver.
- Running DDU for every update: Intel treats it as a fallback for unresolved installation problems and as part of a specific post-update crash procedure.
- Leaving the internet connected during manual removal: Windows Update may insert another driver before your chosen package is installed.
- Expecting Device Manager installation to install everything: the extracted-driver method installs the driver but not other package software.
- Assuming a claimed FPS increase applies everywhere: Intel’s published figures are tied to named games, hardware, settings and comparison versions.
