Bytonylee’s instant-style model on Replicate generates an image from a text prompt while using a separate reference image to guide its visual style. You describe the new subject in the prompt, provide the style image, then adjust the available generation settings and check whether the result kept the look you wanted without copying unwanted content.
What the Instant-Style model does
Replicate’s bytonylee/instant-style listing is a public deployment of the InstantStyle approach developed by InstantX. Its API example accepts both a text prompt and a style_image: the prompt describes what to generate, while the image supplies visual style cues.
The Replicate listing says the model does not have a README. Its API example is the practical starting point for understanding the inputs, but it is not a complete beginner walkthrough.

How to use a style reference
- Choose a reference image. Pick an image whose visual qualities—such as color, material, or atmosphere—you want to influence the output.
- Write a prompt for the new subject or scene. Describe what should appear in the generated image; the API example pairs this prompt with the separate style image.
- Set the generation inputs. Replicate’s example exposes
width,height,style_strength,guidance_scale, andnum_inference_steps, among other options. These are adjustable inputs, not settings with a universally optimal value. - Review the result. Check whether the image reflects the intended visual style and whether objects or other content from the reference have carried over when they should not.
The model’s exact current default version is not established by the cited listing. Check the live model page and input form before relying on a particular version or default.

How InstantStyle separates style from content
The InstantX project repository describes InstantStyle as a framework for disentangling style and content in reference images. The authors describe two main techniques:
- Subtracting text features associated with the reference image’s content from its global image features, with the aim of reducing content leakage.
- Injecting features into selected attention blocks associated with either style or spatial layout. In the project’s terminology, style covers qualities such as color, material, and atmosphere; layout concerns structure and composition.
This is the project’s account of its method, not a promise that every generated image will preserve a style perfectly or exclude all content from the reference. Treat the output as something to inspect and refine.

The method is described in the 2024 paper InstantStyle: Free Lunch towards Style-Preserving in Text-to-Image Generation (arXiv:2404.02733).
Hosted use or local experimentation?
Replicate provides API access to this deployment; using that route means working with its hosted inputs and variable run cost. The upstream repository provides local setup instructions and a Gradio demo for experimenting with the project. The available information does not establish a full cost comparison or a specific local hardware requirement, so do not assume the repository will run on any particular machine without checking its current setup guidance.
Rank #3
The repository says the method is compatible with IP-Adapter. It also cautions that its SD1.5 demo is experimental and reports weaker style perception and understanding for SD1.5 than for its SDXL approach. That caveat concerns the upstream demo, not a guarantee about every Replicate run.

When accessed in 2026, Replicate listed an approximate cost of $0.12 per run and typical completion within 128 seconds, using Nvidia L40S hardware. Replicate says both cost and prediction time vary with inputs, so these figures are platform estimates rather than guaranteed charges, timings, or local hardware requirements.
