To install the usual Xfinity secure hotspot profile, open the Xfinity app, sign in with a Primary, Manager, or Member Xfinity ID, then go to WiFi > WiFi hotspots > Connect automatically > Auto-connect now and follow the prompts. The profile is installed through the app; you generally do not download a file and look for it in phone storage.
Install the secure profile in the Xfinity app
- Install or open the Xfinity app and sign in with a Primary, Manager, or Member Xfinity ID. Xfinity says these account roles can access the WiFi tab. See Xfinity’s app instructions.
- Tap WiFi, then WiFi hotspots.
- Choose Connect automatically, tap Auto-connect now, and follow the on-screen steps to install the secure profile.
- When the profile is installed, your supported device can automatically connect to a secure Xfinity hotspot when one is in range.
If you meant the password for your home WiFi rather than a hotspot profile, open WiFi > WiFi Details in the Xfinity app to view your home network name and password. Those credentials are separate from the hotspot profile. Xfinity’s instructions for viewing WiFi details.
Choose the right route for your device and account
The app’s secure auto-connect option depends on your customer type and operating system. Xfinity Mobile devices may already have secure hotspot connectivity built in, so the app path is not available or necessary for every customer.

Understand secure hotspots versus xfinitywifi
Xfinity uses different network names for its open and secure hotspots: xfinitywifi is open for public use, while XFINITY and Xfinity Mobile are secure hotspot SSIDs. The profile enables automatic connection to a supported secure network; it is not the same as signing in to the open network. Xfinity explains the hotspot security differences.
Xfinity says a secure connection encrypts traffic between your device and the hotspot and uses a certificate to validate that the hotspot is genuine. The open hotspot uses 128-bit encryption at sign-in, but Xfinity advises users to stick to HTTPS and pay attention to certificate warnings. Do not treat the open and secure connections as offering equivalent protection.

Fix profile or auto-connect problems
The app does not show WiFi hotspots or Connect automatically
- Confirm you are signed in with a Primary, Manager, or Member Xfinity ID.
- Check whether your customer type and device qualify for the app-based flow; Xfinity Mobile devices and Android 10 or older have different limitations.
- Check the phone’s operating system version against the device paths above.
Profile installation fails on iPhone or iPad
If the Xfinity WiFi Hotspots app is installed, remove it and retry the profile flow in the Xfinity app. Xfinity identifies the separate app as a possible cause of installation errors. See Xfinity’s profile error steps.

Android reports a permission error
Allow the Xfinity app’s WiFi-control permission in your device settings, then return to the app and finish installing the profile. Android menu wording varies by version.

You cannot install or use secure auto-connect
Use the open xfinitywifi network as a fallback: select it in your device’s WiFi settings and complete the sign-in in a browser. This is a separate open network, not the secure profile connection. Follow Xfinity’s advice to use HTTPS and heed certificate warnings when using it.
