To install Sim with Bluehost’s one-click image, use the Bluehost Portal’s Hosting > My Plans > Manage > Reimage flow, then choose Applications > Sim. Reimaging permanently erases the server’s data and settings, so back up anything you need before confirming. Bluehost documents this process for its self-managed VPS and VDS plans; it is not a general installation procedure for other providers.
Before you reimage: back up and check compatibility
Bluehost warns: “Changing the server image will permanently erase all data and settings on this VPS and VDS. This action cannot be undone.” Save any needed files, configuration, and other data somewhere outside the server, then verify that the backup is usable before proceeding. A suitable local external drive may be one option for keeping a copy, but it is not required to install Sim and should not be treated as the only suitable backup in every situation.
Check the server’s resources before choosing the image. Bluehost’s guide, updated August 28, 2026, gives conflicting minimums in different sections, so its figures should not be treated as a single settled threshold:
Recommended Free Tools
| Source and context | CPU | Memory | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bluehost guide’s initial requirements table, labeled minimum | 8 vCPUs | 16 GB DDR5 | 100 GB NVMe |
| Bluehost guide’s initial requirements table, labeled recommended | 8 CPU cores | 48 GB | 450 GB |
| Bluehost guide’s later minimum statement | 4 vCPUs | 16 GB | 100 GB disk |
Bluehost also warns that less than 16 GB of RAM may cause out-of-memory errors. Confirm the requirements for the currently offered plan and image with Bluehost before buying or starting a reimage. The discrepancies above are in Bluehost’s guide itself, not evidence that one of those minimums is universally correct. Bluehost’s Sim reimage guide

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Sim’s general self-hosting tiers are separate guidance
Sim’s current self-hosting documentation describes workload-oriented tiers; these are general deployment suggestions, not a validation of Bluehost’s prebuilt image:
| Sim tier | CPU | Memory | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 2 cores | 12 GB | 20 GB SSD |
| Standard | 4 cores | 16 GB | 50 GB SSD |
| Production | 8+ cores | 32+ GB | 100+ GB SSD |
Sim notes that resource needs depend on workload and that memory is often the limiting resource. Use these tiers as context for a self-hosted deployment, not as a substitute for confirming the requirements of the Bluehost image. Sim self-hosting documentation

Reimage a Bluehost VPS or VDS with Sim
- Sign in to the Bluehost Portal. Open Hosting > My Plans.
- Manage the relevant VPS or VDS plan. Choose Reimage.
- Open Applications and select Sim. Bluehost says the system chooses the recommended operating system for Sim.
- Confirm only after checking your backup. Type
reimagewhen prompted to authorize the destructive rebuild. - Wait for installation to finish. When complete, check the server’s Server Image section; Bluehost says it should show Sim.
Bluehost’s one-click installer permits only one application. If you need to keep the server’s current template, Bluehost directs you to install the application manually using SSH instead of changing the image. Bluehost’s reimage instructions
What to expect on first boot
Bluehost’s guide describes SSH access and service or log checks as first-boot tasks for its Sim image. It says there is no default administrator password: the first person to visit the web interface creates the administrator account. Follow the image’s current connection details and on-screen setup rather than assuming credentials from another Sim installation will apply.

The same guide describes adding a Sim Copilot key in Sim settings and restarting the service afterward. Treat this as guidance for the Bluehost image and its integration path, not as a universal prerequisite for every Sim deployment. Bluehost’s image-specific setup notes
When a manual Sim deployment may fit better
Reimaging is the provider-specific, one-click route, but it replaces the server image. Sim’s own deployment documentation describes separate Docker Compose and Kubernetes paths. Compose is presented as the fastest way to evaluate Sim and suitable for a single-node team installation; Kubernetes is described for high availability and managed secrets. Those are distinct deployment options, and Sim’s documentation does not certify the exact configuration of Bluehost’s prebuilt image.

The Docker instructions cover required secret configuration, setting the public URL, and starting a production Compose stack. They also explain how to point that stack at an Ollama instance for local models. Use the current Docker documentation for those steps; its configuration should not be assumed to match Bluehost’s image. Sim self-hosting options · Sim Docker documentation
- Choose Bluehost’s image if you want its documented one-click flow and can accept a destructive rebuild.
- Choose manual installation if preserving the current template matters or you need control over deployment configuration and secrets.
- Consider Kubernetes when high availability and managed secrets are deployment requirements; it is a different setup from the Bluehost image.
Why other providers’ reimage instructions are not substitutes
IONOS documents a reimage process for covered dedicated servers that involves choosing an operating system, setting an initial password, and initializing the server. It estimates about one hour to several hours depending on the operating system; that is an IONOS estimate for its process, not a Sim installation time. IONOS reimaging instructions
