To install Grok Bot on Ubuntu, download the official Debian/Ubuntu .deb package that matches your CPU architecture, install it with Ubuntu’s package manager, and launch Grok Bot from the applications menu. xAI documents a Debian/Ubuntu package route, but its reviewed setup material does not certify Ubuntu 24.04 or 26.04 individually.
Before you install: confirm what Grok Bot is and whether you can use it
Grok Bot is xAI’s desktop app for working with Bots that can use a persistent cloud computer. It is different from the consumer Grok assistant at grok.com and the Grok interface inside X. The app’s cloud computer can continue working when you close the laptop or app, according to xAI’s Grok Bot setup guide.
Installing the app does not by itself provide access. xAI’s setup guide requires an eligible paid individual Cursor plan or a qualifying SuperGrok plan linked to Cursor. You sign in through the app and complete authentication in a browser. Check the current Grok Bot access requirements if you are unsure whether your account qualifies.
Check whether your Ubuntu machine is x64 or Arm64
Open Terminal and run:

x86_64means select x64.aarch64means select Arm64.
xAI lists Linux support for x64 and Arm64 in its Grok Bot FAQ. If your output is something else, do not guess which build to use; consult the current download information or support documentation.
Download and install the Ubuntu package
- Open the official Grok Bot Get started guide and follow its download link.
- Choose the Debian/Ubuntu
.debpackage matching the architecture you checked: x64 or Arm64. - Install the downloaded
.debusing Ubuntu’s package manager. xAI’s Linux directions specify the package-manager method but do not provide an Ubuntu-version-specific terminal command in the guide. - Open the applications menu, search for Grok Bot, and launch it.
- Sign in with the eligible Cursor account and complete the browser-based authentication. If your access depends on SuperGrok, make sure that subscription is linked to Cursor as required by xAI.
xAI describes the Linux route this way: “Install the .deb or .rpm with your package manager, or make the AppImage executable and run it.” For Ubuntu, the documented package choice is .deb; RPM and AppImage are alternatives for other Linux situations, not the Ubuntu package route.

What to expect on Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04
xAI says Linux builds are published with each stable Grok Bot release and documents Debian/Ubuntu packages. The official setup and FAQ material reviewed describes Linux and Debian/Ubuntu support at the distribution-family level; it does not specifically name Ubuntu 24.04 or Ubuntu 26.04 as individually certified releases. That means the instructions above describe the available installation route, not a guarantee of compatibility with either exact Ubuntu version.
Because downloads and release support can change, check xAI’s current download page and release notes before relying on a version-specific compatibility claim. If the package installs but the app does not launch on your release, consult current xAI support information rather than assuming the issue is your account or CPU architecture.

If the app opens but you cannot use it
Installation and account eligibility are separate. Confirm that you are signing into the Cursor account associated with an eligible paid individual plan, or that your qualifying SuperGrok subscription has been linked to Cursor. The required browser authentication must also finish before you can use the app. See xAI’s access requirements for the current eligibility details.
Use Grok’s answers with care
X’s general guidance for Grok says its answers may be incorrect or omit context, recommends independently checking outputs, and advises against sharing sensitive or confidential information. This is general Grok guidance, not an Ubuntu installation warning; keep it in mind when deciding what information to give the assistant.
