To install an AMD graphics driver in Windows 10, identify the Radeon graphics model, download a compatible package from AMD or your computer maker, and run its installer. Then configure the screen separately in Settings > System > Display. The driver is for the PC’s graphics adapter—not a universal “AMD monitor driver.”

Before you install: check the graphics hardware and Windows version

Confirm the exact Radeon graphics model and whether Windows is 64-bit. On a laptop, all-in-one, or branded desktop, also note the computer’s manufacturer and model so you can find its support page if needed. AMD’s Auto-Detect utility checks compatible Radeon graphics, Ryzen chipsets, and the Windows version; you can also look up a product manually.

Compatibility depends on both the specific driver release and the graphics product. AMD’s general Adrenalin installation guide lists Windows 10 64-bit version 1809 and later for compatible Radeon graphics, but AMD’s 26.5.2 release notes, last updated May 14, 2026, list Windows 10 64-bit version 21H2 and later for that release. Check the notes and supported-product list for the package you intend to install rather than relying on a general minimum.

Choose where to get the AMD driver

Download route Use it when What to keep in mind
AMD Auto-Detect You want AMD’s utility to check compatible hardware and Windows version. It works only with products the utility supports.
AMD manual product selection You know the Radeon graphics model or Auto-Detect is not suitable. Choose the exact product, then verify the selected release’s compatibility notes.
Computer manufacturer’s support page You have an OEM laptop or all-in-one, or a general AMD package causes problems or lacks system-specific features. Manufacturers may validate drivers for device-specific features and optimizations.

Start at AMD Drivers and Support. AMD provides instructions for using Auto-Detect and a manual product selector. For an OEM computer, AMD notes that customized manufacturer drivers can support system-specific features; try the computer maker’s package if AMD’s driver causes compatibility issues.

Install the driver

  1. Download the compatible package. Use Auto-Detect or select the graphics product manually, and check the chosen release’s Windows and hardware support.
  2. Open the downloaded installer. Allow its setup files to unpack and let AMD Software Installer check the system. Review the license terms and accept them only if you agree.
  3. Choose an installation type. Select Accept & Express Install for AMD’s standard installation, or open Additional Options to choose a different type.
  4. Wait for setup to finish. The screen may flicker briefly while the graphics driver is applied; AMD describes this as normal.
  5. Close the installer when complete. If an error appears, use the troubleshooting steps below rather than repeatedly running setup without addressing the cause.

Default, Minimal, and Driver Only

  • Default: Includes AMD Software features and controls.
  • Minimal: Provides basic controls without advanced performance-tuning and capture features.
  • Driver Only: Installs the driver without the AMD Software user interface.

AMD also offers Factory Reset as an optional installation choice. It removes previous AMD Software versions; AMD warns that you cannot roll back to the previously installed drivers after using it.

Set up the monitor in Windows

Installing the graphics driver and arranging the monitor are separate tasks. Once the display is connected, open Settings > System > Display, select the screen you want to configure, and choose the resolution marked Recommended for a typical setup. Microsoft’s multi-monitor instructions also explain how to choose duplicate or extend mode.

  • 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
  1. Open Settings > System > Display.
  2. Select the display you want to change and choose its recommended resolution.
  3. Under Multiple displays, choose whether to duplicate the image or extend the desktop across screens.
  4. If a connected screen is missing, select Multiple displays > Detect.

A monitor can work through Windows without a separate monitor-specific package being part of the AMD graphics-driver installation. If Windows detects the display but offers an unexpected resolution, check that the correct graphics-adapter driver is installed and select the display’s recommended resolution.

Fix common installation and display problems

AMD setup says the hardware is unsupported or no AMD graphics hardware was detected

Recheck the exact graphics model, then use AMD’s product selector or the computer maker’s support page. A package for a different product is not a match just because it is also an AMD driver.

Setup is blocked by Windows Update or a pending restart

AMD lists errors for an update in progress and for a pending Windows Update installation. Let an active update finish; if a restart is pending, restart Windows and then try the installer again.

Windows appears to replace the installed driver

AMD lists Error 205 for a possible driver reversion through Windows Update. Check which driver version is currently installed and follow AMD’s Error 205 guidance.

The monitor is absent or the image looks wrong

In Settings > System > Display, select the intended screen and set its recommended resolution. For a missing second display, use Multiple displays > Detect; also check the cable, monitor input, and whether Windows recognizes the graphics adapter. Microsoft explains how to check display adapters in Device Manager. If the listed adapter is Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, Windows is using its generic display driver rather than a manufacturer-specific adapter driver.

An OEM laptop or all-in-one behaves differently with AMD’s package

Try the graphics driver from the computer manufacturer’s support page. AMD says OEM drivers may be customized and validated for features and optimizations specific to the system.

Multiple displays exceed the available connections

Supported display counts and types depend on the graphics-card model and board design. Some setups may require DisplayPort-ready monitors or a DisplayPort 1.2 MST-enabled hub; these are conditional connection requirements, not prerequisites for installing the driver.

What Windows 10 support ending means

Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Free software updates through Windows Update, technical assistance, and security fixes for Windows 10 ended on that date. Installing an AMD graphics driver does not restore Windows servicing. See Microsoft’s Windows 10 end-of-support notice.
