Instagram Highlights keep a Story visible on your profile, but they are not a reliable way to reopen its poll activity or voter details. If the poll is still live, open the original Story and check its viewer or activity panel. If it has expired, look for it in Story Archive—if archiving was enabled. What remains available after that can vary; Instagram does not have a verified, universal retention guarantee in the sources available.

Why poll results may be missing from a Highlight

A Highlight is saved Story playback, not necessarily the original Story’s poll activity screen. A recent third-party guide describes the poll in a Highlight as a static final display: it may show the poll’s visual state without providing the interactive activity panel or detailed response information. That explanation is not an official Instagram policy, and behavior may vary by app version or account. Robots.net’s guide

In other words, seeing the Story in a Highlight does not establish that its vote tally or voter details should still be available there. To check for those details, start with the original Story or its Archive entry.

Where to check, depending on the Story’s status

Story status Where to look What to expect
Still live Open the original Story, then its viewer or activity control, often labeled “Seen By.” Guides describe this as the place to inspect poll responses and voter details. Interface labels may change. Tailwind’s poll guide
Expired, with archiving enabled Profile menu → Archive → Story Archive; find and open the original poll Story. Results may be available, but the detail shown can vary with the Story’s age, account, and app state. Chatfuel’s guide
Missing from Archive Check whether the original Story is available in Story Archive. A Highlight alone is not a verified way to restore underlying poll activity, and no recovery method for a missing or unarchived Story is established by the sources cited here. Robots.net’s guide

Check a live poll from the original Story

  1. Open the Story itself while it is still live; do not enter through its profile Highlight.
  2. Open the viewer or activity control, often labeled “Seen By.” Look for the poll’s response details. The precise control and labels may differ as Instagram updates its interface. Tailwind’s guidance

Look for an expired poll in Story Archive

  1. Open your Instagram profile menu and select Archive.
  2. Confirm that Story Archive is selected, then find the Story by date and open it.
  3. Check the original Story’s available activity or results. This route depends on the Story having been archived and remaining available; it does not guarantee that every poll detail will still appear. Chatfuel’s guide

What can remain after 24 hours?

Do not assume that poll percentages and voter names have the same retention period. InstaViewer reports that its checks on September 24, 2026 found percentages still visible after 24 hours while voter names were not. This is a limited third-party observation, not an official or universal Instagram rule. InstaViewer’s dated observation

Chatfuel’s guide says poll results stop updating after 24 hours and may be revisited in Story Archive when archiving is enabled. Because this is secondary guidance and not an Instagram guarantee, treat the availability of both results and voter details as uncertain. Chatfuel’s guide

If the original Story is available but results will not load

  • Return to the original Story or its Story Archive entry rather than relying on the Highlight playback.
  • Make sure Instagram is up to date, then retry. This is a reasonable troubleshooting step, not a verified fix for missing poll data.
  • If the Story is absent from Archive, do not treat the Highlight as proof that its underlying activity can be recovered. The sources cited here do not establish a recovery route.

Keep a record of results you will need later

If you need poll details beyond the Story’s live period, capture the activity or results screen while it is available. A screenshot gives you a manual record; it cannot retrieve results that Instagram no longer displays. A 2017 UK Safer Internet Centre post also describes viewing poll counts and choices through the Story viewer list, but it is too old to establish current interface labels or retention behavior.
