You can install the official Instagram app on supported Windows PCs through the Microsoft Store. For Windows 11 and Windows 10, search for Instagram in the Store and install the listing published through Microsoft’s app marketplace. Windows 7 and Windows 8 do not have a current, Microsoft-supported installation path for the Store app, so the practical option is Instagram’s website.

Download Instagram on Windows 11
- Select Start and open Microsoft Store.
- Search for Instagram.
- Open the official listing named Instagram. The Microsoft Store product ID is
9nblggh5l9xt. - Select Get, or select the install button shown on the listing.
- Sign in with a Microsoft account if Microsoft Store requests it.
- After installation, open Instagram from the Store or the Start menu and sign in.
Use the Microsoft Store listing rather than downloading a random “Instagram for PC” executable from a software-download website. Instagram does not provide a separate official Windows .exe installer for this process.
Download Instagram on Windows 10
- Open Start > Microsoft Store.
- Type Instagram into the Store search box.
- Select the official Instagram listing.
- Select Get and complete the Microsoft account prompt if one appears.
- Launch the app from the Start menu when installation finishes.
The installation steps are substantially the same as on Windows 11. However, Windows 10 Home and Pro stopped receiving normal support on October 14, 2025. The computer may still run the Store app or Instagram’s website, but an unsupported operating system is a security risk and may eventually lose compatibility with newer apps and browsers.

Use Instagram in a browser without installing it
The browser version is often the quickest option, and it works on Windows 11 and Windows 10 even when the Store app is unavailable.

- Select Log in.
- Enter your Instagram username, phone number, or email address and password.
Do not enter your Instagram password into an unofficial desktop program. Check the address bar before signing in: the login should be on Instagram’s official website, not on a third-party download or “Instagram viewer” domain.
Can you install Instagram on Windows 7 or Windows 8?
There is no current Microsoft-supported way to install the Instagram Store app on Windows 7 or Windows 8. The Microsoft Store installation instructions apply to current Windows PCs, primarily Windows 10 and Windows 11.
You can still try opening Instagram.com in a browser already installed on the computer. Expect restrictions: Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 cannot use current versions of many browsers. Microsoft Edge 109 was the final Edge release supporting Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, while Edge 110 requires Windows 10 or later. The website may therefore display incorrectly, reject the browser, or lack some newer features.
Installing an old Android emulator, an unofficial Instagram package, or a repackaged .exe is not a supported fix. These downloads can be outdated, contain unwanted software, or request account credentials outside Instagram’s official login page.
What to do if Instagram does not appear in Microsoft Store
Microsoft lists several possible causes:
- The app is unavailable in your country or region.
- Your PC is incompatible with the app.
- Family settings are hiding the listing.
- The computer was recently updated and has not been restarted.
- You are not signed in with the Microsoft account required by the Store.
- The app has temporarily been removed or is unavailable.
Try these fixes in order.
1. Restart Windows
Restart the computer, open Microsoft Store again, and search for Instagram. This is especially worthwhile after a major Windows update.
2. Update Microsoft Store
On Windows 11, open Start > Microsoft Store > Library > Get updates.
On Windows 10, open Start > Microsoft Store > See more (…) > Downloads and updates > Get updates.

3. Reset the Microsoft Store cache
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
wsreset.exe. - Select OK.
- Wait while the blank Command Prompt window closes and Microsoft Store opens again.
- Search for Instagram once more.
4. Use Instagram.com instead
If the listing remains unavailable, open Instagram in a browser. This avoids the Store entirely and is the safest alternative when the PC, region, or Windows installation is not compatible with the app.
What happened to the Amazon Appstore option?
Some older guides recommend installing Instagram through the Amazon Appstore or Windows Subsystem for Android. That is outdated advice. Microsoft states that Windows Subsystem for Android and the Amazon Appstore stopped being available in Microsoft Store on March 5, 2025. They should not be used as the current installation method for Instagram on Windows.
Sign in safely after installation
- Install only the Microsoft Store listing or use
https://www.instagram.com/. - Never download a “cracked,” “portable,” or unofficial Instagram installer.
- Do not share your password with software that is not published by Instagram or Microsoft Store.
- Enable two-factor authentication in Instagram’s account security settings.
- If you already entered your password into a suspicious program, change it from Instagram’s official website and review active sessions.

Why can’t I find Instagram in Microsoft Store?
The app may be unavailable in your region, incompatible with the PC, hidden by family settings, temporarily unavailable, or affected by a Store problem. Restart Windows, update Microsoft Store, run wsreset.exe, and try Instagram.com in a browser.
Can I install Instagram using an .exe file or Amazon Appstore?
Do not use unofficial Instagram .exe downloads. The supported routes are the Microsoft Store listing and Instagram.com. The Amazon Appstore and Windows Subsystem for Android are no longer available in Microsoft Store as of March 5, 2025.
