Use Instagram to make it easier for the right people to discover your business, understand what you offer, and take a next step. Use AI to speed up planning and drafting—not as a substitute for your judgment or a guarantee of growth. A practical approach is to set up a clear business presence, publish useful original content, respond thoughtfully to customers, and measure results against business goals.

Start with a business presence that gives visitors a next step

Before you focus on reach, make your Instagram profile useful to someone who has just discovered your business. Explain what you offer in plain language and make the next action easy to find, whether that is asking a question, booking, or visiting your website.

Meta Blueprint’s beginner course treats account setup, connecting and engaging with customers, and creating engaging content as foundational business tasks. Its course listing is a useful starting point for learning those areas, though Instagram’s interface can change, so follow the current labels in the app rather than relying on a fixed set of menu instructions. See Meta Blueprint’s Instagram business course.

Use AI to develop content, then make it genuinely yours

AI can help turn a real business idea into a first draft or a set of options. Meta’s Instagram-specific prompt guide describes uses including photo concepts, aesthetic edits, Reel scripts, and carousel planning. Treat the output as material to review and refine, not as a ready-to-publish answer. Explore AI at Meta’s Instagram prompt guide.

Choose the format for the job

  • Photo: Show a product, finished project, place, or detail that helps people understand what you do.
  • Reel: Demonstrate a process, answer a common question, or introduce a person behind the business.
  • Carousel: Break a useful explanation into a sequence, such as steps, options, or a short guide.

Ask AI for alternatives that fit a specific audience and business goal—for example, several ways to explain a service to first-time customers. Supply accurate details about the offer and intended audience. Then check every factual claim, product detail, tone choice, and rights-sensitive element before posting. Add your own expertise, examples, and perspective so the content is useful rather than generic.

Make original, useful posts instead of chasing a ranking trick

There is no dependable public recipe that guarantees a post will be recommended. Meta Engineering describes Instagram recommendations as a multi-stage ranking system, including sourcing or retrieval, early-stage ranking, and late-stage ranking, with many production models. That engineering account explains system complexity; it is not a checklist of controls that businesses can use to force distribution. Read Meta Engineering’s explanation of Instagram’s recommendation system.

Meta reported that 75% of Instagram recommendations in the United States in Q4 2025 came from original posts, following a 10-percentage-point increase in the prevalence of original content. These are Meta-reported platform figures for a specific geography and quarter—not a forecast of what any individual business account will achieve. See Meta’s January 2026 report.

For your own account, focus on posts that answer customer questions, show what makes your offer relevant, or help someone decide what to do next. Use account results to see which topics and formats are prompting meaningful responses; do not treat a single platform-wide statistic as a promise of reach.

Use customer conversations to support the business outcome

Messages and comments can reveal what people need to know before they book or buy. Reply clearly, give accurate information, and make it easy to continue the conversation. For unusual, sensitive, or consequential issues, involve a person rather than relying on an automated response.

Meta announced an expansion of Business Agent to Instagram, describing functions that include answering business-specific questions, recommending products from a catalog, booking appointments, qualifying leads, and handing a conversation to staff. The June 2026 announcement says the initial rollout is to select businesses and that paid subscription offerings were forthcoming. Availability, features, and terms can change, so check Meta’s current information before building a workflow around it. Read Meta’s Business Agent announcement.

Measure progress by what the business needs

More posts or AI-generated drafts do not, by themselves, establish that an account is growing in a way that benefits the business. Decide what outcome matters before changing your content approach, then review whether Instagram is helping people take that action. Depending on the business, that may mean useful customer conversations, qualified inquiries, bookings, or sales—not simply a larger audience.

Keep a simple record of the content you publish, its format, the question or need it addresses, and the customer response or business action that follows. Use those observations to refine your next idea. If AI saves drafting time, spend the saved effort improving accuracy, answering customers, or making the content more specific to your audience.
