The INMOTION V9 is a difficult electric unicycle to learn, but New Atlas reviewer Joe Salas found it enjoyable and useful once he gained confidence. His experience suggests the V9 may suit riders willing to practice; it is less appealing if you expect an easy first ride or effortless comfort on every surface.
What it takes to learn the V9
Salas began with no electric-unicycle experience. He practiced while holding a workbench, made short trips between parked vehicles, and rode in a driveway before progressing to streets and errands. He found lateral balance difficult at first, and starting slowly felt harder than moving at speed. His summary in New Atlas was: “The learning curve is steep.”
After more than 60 miles, he described the payoff this way: “It’s hard to learn how to ride … but it’s oh-so-worth-it when you do figure it out.” That is one rider’s account, not a controlled assessment or a guarantee that every beginner will have the same experience.
What the V9 offers
INMOTION presents the V9 as a commuter-oriented wheel with suspension and integrated convenience features. Its product page lists these specifications and claims:

These are manufacturer-published figures, not independent test results. Salas described the V9 as having a 16-inch wheel and reported a weight of 50.7 lb; INMOTION’s product page gives a conflicting weight figure, so the V9’s weight should be confirmed against the exact listing before purchase. How it rides once you are moving
Salas found the suspension helpful over small bumps, though rippled roads still felt uncomfortable. He said the aggressive pedals took adjustment and recounted that his shoe briefly caught when he made an unscheduled step-off. He also reported aching legs and feet from holding one standing position, so he stopped periodically.

Surface and weather affected his ride. He found hard-packed dirt manageable but advised against soft ground based on his experience. Wind affected both his balance and speed. These are observations from his rides, not universal handling rules for every rider or condition.

Range and speed: claims versus one rider’s experience
INMOTION advertises up to 37 miles of range. Salas estimated about 25 miles on flat ground in the conditions he described. The difference is a reminder that a published maximum is not a dependable promise for every trip: rider, terrain, pace, and conditions matter, and the review did not establish a standardized range test.

Salas reported reaching 23 mph. He set an app alarm at 21 mph and tiltback at 24 mph; those were his personal settings, not recommended limits. INMOTION’s published top-speed figure is a manufacturer claim, and riders should not treat either that figure or Salas’s experience as a safe target.
Lights, app, and practical details
The review describes an adjustable headlight, brake light, lean-sensitive turn signals, Bluetooth speakers, RideConnect app features, remote locking, recovery assistance, a trolley handle, and a grab handle. These features may make the V9 more convenient for everyday use, but the review does not establish how each performs across all conditions.

Salas said the first year of cellular service was free at the time of his review. Cellular-service terms can change, so check current INMOTION terms rather than assuming that offer still applies. He also recounted hitting a puddle but did not ride in rain. The manufacturer’s IPX6 rating is not a blanket guarantee for every exposure, and his account is not a waterproofing test.
Who should consider the V9?
- It may fit: someone prepared to practice, who values suspension and integrated commuting features and can accommodate the wheel’s substantial reported weight.
- It may not fit: someone who needs an easy-to-learn ride, expects a guaranteed 37-mile trip, or prioritizes comfort on rough or soft surfaces.
The review does not compare the V9 with competing wheels, and Salas said he had no other EUC to use as a benchmark. Treat his conclusions as a novice-to-rider account, not evidence that the V9 is better than alternatives.
