I chose the Ink Business Cash because its rewards fit certain business expenses and come as cash back—not because it earns more points than my Amex. Chase lists a $0 annual fee and 5% cash back on eligible office-supply and internet, cable, and phone spending, subject to a combined annual cap. Whether that trade-off makes sense depends on your own Amex card, spending, fees, and how you redeem its points.
Why Ink Business Cash made sense for my business
The card’s appeal is targeted cash back on expenses I can use it for, rather than a larger points balance. Chase’s current product page lists no annual fee, and its rewards agreement treats the cash-back rewards as points worth one cent each when redeemed for cash. That makes the return relatively straightforward to assess against an Amex whose points may have a different value depending on the card and redemption.
That is a personal rationale, not proof that Ink Business Cash is better than Amex generally. The specific Amex card and the value I get from its points are not identified here, so there is no sound basis for a universal points-for-cash comparison.
What Ink Business Cash earns
Chase lists these earning rates on the Ink Business Cash product page and rewards agreement:

The caps apply separately to the two bonus groups. After reaching a group’s cap, purchases in that group earn the 1% base rate. The product page lists the annual fee as $0. Chase’s Ink Business Cash product page and its rewards agreement are the authoritative places to confirm terms; offers and rates can change.
When cash back can beat a higher points multiplier
A points multiplier alone does not tell you which card returns more value. Compare the dollars you can actually realize after considering redemption value, annual fees, category eligibility, and spending caps. Ink’s agreement states that cash, gift-card, and travel redemptions are one cent per point; other redemption options may be worth more or less.

For example, 5% cash back on qualifying spending is a clear five cents per dollar in cash value under the stated redemption rate, before considering any card fees or other constraints. An Amex earning more points per dollar could still provide more or less value depending on that card’s rules and how you redeem. Without those details, declaring a winner would be guesswork.

Check whether your purchases will qualify
The category names are not a guarantee that every seemingly relevant purchase earns the bonus. Chase says rewards depend on the merchant code assigned to a transaction. A vendor that sells office supplies, for instance, may not be coded as an office-supply store. Payments routed through third-party accounts, mobile or wireless readers, or digital wallets may also fail to process under the expected category.

Before counting on a category bonus, consider how the merchant and payment route are likely to code the charge. Chase cautions in its agreement that a merchant or some items it sells may appear to fit a rewards category even though the merchant does not have a code in that category. The offer-page terms below were displayed by Chase on October 7, 2026, and are not a guarantee of what a particular applicant will receive. Chase says offers can vary by application channel and may change.

Eligibility restrictions apply; the page says the bonus may be unavailable to people who have had this card or another Chase for Business card without an annual fee, and other business factors can affect eligibility.
- Introductory APR: The page showed 0% for 12 months on purchases, followed by a variable APR of 16.99%–24.99%.
- Promotions: Chase listed 5% total cash back on Lyft rides through September 30, 2027. It also listed a complimentary three-month Instacart+ membership that requires enrollment and auto-renews at $99 per year after the free period; the page said the benefits end December 31, 2027.
These are time-sensitive offer details, not the core reason to choose the card. Confirm the current terms directly with Chase before applying.

- Identify the exact Amex card and its annual fee, earning categories, and any relevant caps.
- Estimate your spending in Ink’s eligible categories and in the Amex’s categories, separating purchases that may not qualify because of merchant coding or payment routing.
- Convert each card’s rewards into the value you actually expect to receive from your usual redemptions; do not equate points across programs just because both are called points.
- Account for annual fees and the spending that falls above each card’s applicable cap.
- Choose based on net value and usefulness to your business, rather than the headline points multiplier alone.
Chase’s own Ink Business Preferred agreement illustrates why the units matter: that separate card earns 3 points per dollar in selected categories, subject to a combined $150,000 account-anniversary-year cap, and states that cash, gift-card, and travel redemptions are one cent per point while other options may differ. Those terms describe another Chase card; they do not establish the value of points from an unspecified Amex. Chase’s Ink Business Preferred agreement provides the details.
