ING’s Dutch home-contents insurance (inboedelverzekering) is available as Basis or All risk. Basis covers specified events; All risk also covers certain sudden, unforeseen accidents. For renters, the policy includes cover for qualifying alterations to the home, but glass and mobile-electronics cover are optional, and caps, deductibles and exclusions can materially affect a claim. There is no representative public premium in the available product information, so whether it suits your household—and what it costs—depends on your address, belongings and chosen options.
What kind of insurance is ING offering?
This is contents insurance for belongings at the insured home address in the Netherlands, not building insurance. ING offers two cover types: Basis and All risk. The product information document identifies Nationale-Nederlanden Schadeverzekering Maatschappij N.V. as the insurer and is version 5, dated 26 June 2025. ING’s product information and current policy wording should be checked before taking out cover.
As general Dutch-market context, Consumentenbond explains that contents insurance usually concerns possessions not fixed to the home. Renters commonly arrange contents cover themselves, while the landlord or owners’ association generally handles building insurance; the arrangements for glass can vary. Consumentenbond’s guide to contents insurance is useful context, but ING’s own terms govern an ING claim.

Basis: specified events
Basis covers loss or damage from the events listed in the policy, rather than every accidental mishap. Consumentenbond’s general explanation of common contents-insurance events includes fire, water, lightning, explosion, burglary, violent robbery, storm, scorching and melting. That list describes market context, not a complete statement of ING’s covered events; check the policy wording for the exact conditions and exceptions that apply to each cause.

All risk: some sudden, unforeseen accidents
All risk adds cover for other sudden, unforeseen events, such as accidentally bumping or dropping an item, subject to the policy terms and exclusions. It is not an unconditional guarantee against every kind of damage. In particular, accidental damage to mobile electronics is governed separately and may require ING’s optional mobile-electronics module.
What limits and claim values should renters check?
The product information document states a maximum of €150,000 for belongings per event, with lower limits for some categories. A household with costly possessions should check the applicable sublimits rather than assuming the headline maximum is available for every item.
- Valuables: theft cover is capped at the selected €5,000, €15,000 or €30,000 limit per event.
- Jewelry: theft is capped at €5,000.
- Mobile electronics: these are treated separately in the policy; do not assume a smartphone, laptop, tablet or wearable is covered under the ordinary contents definition or that the valuables limits apply to it.
For eligible items that cannot be repaired or replaced, the document describes new-value treatment for items up to and including ten years old, and day-value treatment for items older than ten years. Eligibility and category-specific rules matter, so consult the current wording for the item involved.

For the standard deductible, ING lets the policyholder select €0, €100 or €500 per event. Damage to tenant’s interest caused by extreme weather has a €250 deductible per event; if you choose the €500 voluntary deductible, that higher amount also applies. Factor this into the cost of a claim, not just the premium. The deductible options and special tenant’s-interest condition are set out in the ING product information.
How does cover for a rented home work?
ING includes tenant’s interest as standard. In the policy document, this means cover for damage to alterations the renter made to the rental home—for example, qualifying improvements—rather than a substitute for the landlord’s building insurance. The document gives a minimum €250 excess for tenant’s-interest cover, or a higher excess where the voluntary deductible is higher.
Tenant’s-interest cover has limitations. The wording excludes specified causes and situations, including installation or construction faults, moisture passing through walls or floors, groundwater or changes in groundwater level, and flooding caused by failure of a primary water defence. It also excludes loss of belongings, intent or recklessness, and pets. Check the policy’s exact definitions and exceptions against the circumstances of your rental and any improvements you have made; the term “included” does not mean every alteration or cause of damage is covered.
Are glass, belongings outside the home and mobile electronics included?
The product information document lists glass, belongings outside the home and mobile electronics as optional modules with separate terms, limits and territorial conditions. Glass breakage is not standard in that document. Because a landlord or owners’ association may arrange building insurance, renters should establish who is responsible for the particular glass in their home and whether any relevant cover applies to their own belongings or liability.

Check the module’s geographic scope, covered circumstances, limits and deductible in the current policy wording before relying on it.

What is known about price and customer experience?
The reviewed public product information does not establish a representative premium for renters. Obtain a quote using your actual address and chosen cover; a price for another household or configuration would not establish what you will pay. No policy purchase, claim, customer-service test or personal experience is represented here.
Consumentenbond’s page updated 1 October 2026 lists Woonpakket ING (all-risk) with a score of 8.4. That is a dated score for the all-risk home package, not a renter-only ranking, proof that ING is the best fit for a particular household, or evidence that it is the cheapest option. See Consumentenbond’s contents-insurance test page for its comparative context.
How to decide whether ING fits your household
Compare the policy with alternatives using the same address and belongings assumptions. A premium comparison alone can conceal meaningful differences in cover.
Quick Recap
- Choose the event scope: compare named-event cover with accidental-damage cover, and note that mobile electronics may have separate rules.
- Check limits against your possessions: review the total limit and the sublimits for valuables, jewelry and electronics.
- Understand claim valuation: establish when new value or day value applies to the items you would need to replace.
- Calculate the excess: compare the selected standard deductible and the special tenant’s-interest excess for extreme-weather damage.
- Identify optional modules: decide whether you need glass, cover for belongings outside the home, or mobile-electronics cover; check each module’s limits and territory.
- Read exclusions against the rental: consider who insures the building and glass, what improvements you have made, and whether the policy’s exclusions affect risks specific to your home.
