Tata Elxsi’s profit rose 10% year over year to 1.7 billion rupees ($17.84 million at the exchange rate cited in the October 13, 2026 report) for the three months ended September 30, 2026. Revenue increased 15% to 10.56 billion rupees, with transportation remaining the company’s largest business and new work in aerospace helping offset continuing weakness in electric-vehicle adoption and technology spending.

What Tata Elxsi reported for Q2 FY27

The September quarter, referred to as Q2 FY27, produced a stronger bottom line and faster overall revenue growth than profit growth. Tata Elxsi reported quarterly profit of 1.7 billion rupees, up 10% from the same period a year earlier. Revenue reached 10.56 billion rupees, a 15% year-over-year increase.

Measure Q2 FY27 result Year-over-year change
Quarterly profit 1.7 billion rupees ($17.84 million at the reported exchange rate) 10% higher
Total revenue 10.56 billion rupees 15% higher
Transportation revenue growth 9.4% in constant-currency terms Year over year
Media and communications revenue growth 10.9% Year over year

Because revenue grew faster than profit, the headline figures do not indicate an equivalent expansion in reported profit margin. Tata Elxsi said operational efficiencies improved core profit margins even after salary revisions across its workforce.

Transportation remained the main growth engine

New deals and aerospace demand

The transportation segment grew 9.4% year over year on a constant-currency basis. Reuters attributed that performance to new deal wins and traction in adjacent markets, particularly aerospace. Constant-currency growth removes the effect of exchange-rate movements, making it a clearer view of underlying segment demand than a rupee figure alone.

#1 Best Overall

Transportation is strategically important because it is Tata Elxsi’s largest segment. The company reported that transportation generated 77% of segment revenue from original-equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in Q4 FY26, illustrating the business’s substantial exposure to vehicle and equipment makers.

Growth moderated from Q1 FY27

The latest transportation result was still positive but slower than the 13.3% year-over-year growth reported for Q1 FY27. The sequential moderation matters because it shows that new wins and aerospace activity supported expansion without matching the prior quarter’s segment pace.

Quarter Transportation year-over-year growth Basis
Q1 FY27 13.3% Company-reported year-over-year growth
Q2 FY27 9.4% Constant-currency year-over-year growth

The two figures should not be treated as a perfect like-for-like margin or revenue comparison unless the company presents both periods on the same basis. They nevertheless show that transportation continued to expand while its reported growth rate eased in the second quarter.

Media and communications also accelerated activity

Media and communications revenue grew 10.9% year over year. Tata Elxsi linked that increase to deal ramp-ups and additional wins, giving the company a second source of growth alongside transportation.

This mix is relevant to investors because it reduces reliance on one immediate source of new work, although transportation remains the larger business and therefore has a greater influence on the company’s overall trajectory.

Why profit grew more slowly than revenue

Tata Elxsi said operational efficiencies helped improve core profit margins despite salary revisions across its workforce during the quarter. In practical terms, efficiency gains supported profitability while employee-cost increases created pressure. The 10% profit increase, compared with 15% revenue growth, indicates that cost dynamics remained important even as demand improved.

The reported profit and revenue figures are in rupees, while the $17.84 million profit conversion reflects the exchange rate used in the October 13 report. Currency movements can affect comparisons between the reported rupee results and any dollar conversion.

Industry risks still facing Tata Elxsi

Limited electric-vehicle adoption

The engineering research-and-development industry continues to face headwinds from limited adoption of electric vehicles. Slower EV uptake can delay or reduce related engineering programs, software work and platform spending across transportation customers.

Macroeconomic pressure on technology budgets

A broader macroeconomic overhang has also hurt technology spending. Even when companies win contracts, customers can phase projects, delay discretionary work or scrutinize budgets more closely. That creates a risk that current deal momentum will convert into revenue more slowly than expected.

Customer concentration in transportation

Transportation’s status as the largest segment, combined with the 77% OEM revenue share reported for Q4 FY26, leaves Tata Elxsi sensitive to vehicle-industry investment cycles. Aerospace and adjacent-market wins provide diversification within the segment, but they do not remove exposure to transportation customers’ product schedules and spending decisions.

How to read the quarter

  • Positive: Revenue rose 15%, profit rose 10%, and both transportation and media and communications delivered year-over-year growth.
  • Operational support: Efficiency improvements helped core margins absorb salary revisions.
  • Growth quality: Transportation’s 9.4% constant-currency growth was supported by new deals and aerospace activity.
  • Watch point: Transportation growth slowed from 13.3% in Q1 FY27, while EV adoption and technology-spending weakness remain industry-wide constraints.

Longer-term company context

Tata Elxsi reported FY26 operating revenue of Rs. 3,757.4 crore. That figure provides scale context for the quarterly result but is not directly comparable with the September-quarter revenue without accounting for the different reporting periods and units.

Chairman N. Ganapathy Subramaniam has described customer experience as a continuing priority across industries, with software, electronics and digital technologies creating opportunities to innovate and personalize end-to-end delivery. The Q2 FY27 results show that this strategy is being pursued through transportation, aerospace-adjacent work, media and communications deal ramp-ups, and new wins, while demand conditions remain uneven.
