Indian Gold ETFs recorded net inflows of ₹4,450.61 crore in September 2026, up about 71.4% from ₹2,596.70 crore in August, according to the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). At the same time, AMFI reported a net outflow of ₹1,33,375.57 crore across all mutual-fund schemes. The figures show contrasting category-level flows—not a proven transfer of money from other funds into Gold ETFs.
What happened to Indian Gold ETF flows in September?
AMFI reported ₹5,310.65 crore in funds mobilized by Gold ETFs during September 2026 and ₹860.04 crore in repurchases or redemptions. After those transactions, the category’s net inflow was ₹4,450.61 crore. In August, the net inflow was ₹2,596.70 crore.
The month-over-month increase was approximately 71.4%, calculated from the two net-inflow figures: (₹4,450.61 crore − ₹2,596.70 crore) ÷ ₹2,596.70 crore. It is a comparison of net flows, not gross subscriptions or investment returns. AMFI’s monthly data reports mobilization, redemptions and net flows separately.

The figures cover different levels of AMFI’s reporting. Gold ETFs had a positive net flow, while the grand total across mutual-fund schemes had a negative net flow of ₹1,33,375.57 crore in September 2026. AMFI separately reported open-ended scheme outflows of ₹1,33,060.04 crore; the grand total is the relevant figure when describing all schemes.

An industry-wide total combines activity across multiple scheme categories and transactions. A positive result for one category can therefore coexist with a negative result across the broader universe. These totals do not identify the investors behind each transaction, and they do not show that the same investors or rupees moved directly from other mutual funds into Gold ETFs.
What the 71.4% increase does—and does not—mean
- It measures a change in net flows. September’s ₹4,450.61 crore net inflow was about 71.4% higher than August’s ₹2,596.70 crore net inflow.
- It is not a return or price gain. Monthly fund-flow figures describe money entering or leaving a fund category; they do not measure how an investment performed.
- It does not establish a cause. AMFI’s monthly report gives the flow figures but does not attribute the India-specific increase to a particular event or investor motive.
- It is not proof investors abandoned other funds. The category totals do not establish a direct movement from other schemes into Gold ETFs.
How Indian figures compare with global Gold ETF flows
Gold ETF flows were also positive globally in September, but the international figures use a different dataset and should not be added to or confused with AMFI’s India-only rupee totals. The World Gold Council reported US$10 billion in net inflows to global physically backed gold ETFs, alongside a 67-tonne rise in holdings to a record 4,256 tonnes. It also reported that total assets under management fell 7% for the month to US$574 billion. These are global figures through September 30, 2026, published on October 7—not measures of Indian flows. The Council’s September report distinguishes fund flows from changes in gold holdings.
