Incandescent-compatible wall sconces are still listed by retailers and manufacturers, but there is no evidence here to rank them by brightness, durability, or glare. Choose by matching the socket and bulb to the fixture, then check location rating, installation type, dimensions, light direction, and dimmer compatibility.
How to compare incandescent wall sconces
Use the exact model’s current specifications rather than relying on a category label or a general description. The important differences are practical: what lamp fits, where the fixture can be installed, how it mounts, and how its shade directs light.
- Socket and lamp: Check the base type, permitted bulb shapes, maximum wattage, enclosure clearance, and whether the fixture includes a bulb.
- Location rating: Match the dry-, damp-, or wet-location rating to the installation site. Use the rating and instructions for the exact model.
- Mounting and fit: Confirm hardwired or plug-in installation, fixture dimensions, and how far it projects from the wall.
- Light and appearance: Compare shade or diffuser design, light direction, finish, and material to suit the room and intended ambient, accent, or task use.
- Dimming: Verify that the fixture and the specific bulb are compatible with the dimmer you plan to use; a dimmable listing does not establish compatibility with every dimmer.
- Certification: Check the product’s current markings and documentation for the exact model and market. A retailer’s category filter alone does not confirm an item’s present certification.
Catalogs have listed incandescent-capable sconces, including UL-listed examples, but catalog results and stock change. Those listings establish availability, not comparative lighting performance. [Home Depot incandescent/UL-listed sconce search; Lowe’s incandescent wall sconce search]

Start with the socket printed in the fixture specifications, then match the bulb base and shape. Examples in product listings include E26, GU24, and E12 sockets; these are not interchangeable. Do not choose a bulb on base type alone: also observe the fixture’s maximum wattage, allowed shape, and clearance inside an enclosed shade.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
For example, Barn Light Electric describes The Original Wall Sconce as available with either an E26 or GU24 socket. Rothschild & Bickers says its North American UL products use 120 V with E12 or E26 holders and that bulbs are not supplied. That bulb-inclusion detail applies to that maker’s products, not to all sconces. [Barn Light Electric: The Original Wall Sconce; Rothschild & Bickers North American FAQ]
Check the product listing or manufacturer instructions to determine whether a bulb comes with the fixture. If it does not, buy a lamp that meets all listed limits rather than substituting a higher-wattage bulb.

Can a wall sconce be dimmed?
Some listed sconces are described as dimmable, but this is a model-specific feature. Dainolite’s WAN-171W-MB-FR listing describes a one-light E12 fixture as dimmable, with a 60 W maximum and UL approval for damp locations. Verify current specifications for the exact model, including the bulb and dimmer requirements, before installation or purchase. The listing is a product claim, not an independent performance test. [Dainolite WAN-171W-MB-FR]
Are incandescent wall sconces available in the United States?
Retailers and manufacturers continue to list fixtures that can accept incandescent lamps, though a particular model’s availability depends on inventory and location. Rothschild & Bickers’ North American guide says its UL versions are designed for 120 V and use E12 or E26 holders. Confirm the voltage, socket, and market-specific version for any fixture you consider. [Rothschild & Bickers North American FAQ]

What U.S. lamp-efficiency rules mean for fixture buyers
DOE rules distinguish covered lamp types from fixtures. A “general service incandescent lamp” is a defined category involving lamp type, medium screw base, lumen range, and voltage range, with specified exclusions; it does not mean every incandescent bulb or every fixture that can accept one. DOE says manufacturers have been required to comply with standards for general service incandescent lamps since 2012. [U.S. Department of Energy: General Service Lamps]
DOE states that amended general-service-lamp standards took effect July 3, 2024, with compliance required on and after July 25, 2028. The requirement applies to newly produced or imported covered lamps; DOE says it does not affect consumers’ continued use or purchase of bulbs already manufactured. The department described the amended level for the most common general-service bulbs as more than 120 lumens per watt. That figure is a regulatory efficiency requirement for covered lamps, not a measured output or rating for any wall sconce. Check DOE’s current guidance for rule details and dates. Check markings and installation instructions
UL’s 2015–16 White Book identifies ANSI/UL 1598 as a basic luminaire investigation standard and discusses product marks. Because that guide is an older edition, use current product labels, manufacturer instructions, and current UL guidance when deciding whether a fixture is suitable for a specific installation. Do not treat a marketplace filter or a general UL claim as proof of current certification for an individual item. [UL White Book 2015–16]
