At India Mobile Congress 2026, Indian companies presented AI wearables aimed at practical uses beyond fitness tracking and phone alerts: Indian-language assistance, hands-free tasks, accessibility, payments, education and productivity. The products are at different stages: Jio’s glasses and audio devices were still in development, Torchit’s Jyoti glasses were described as an existing accessibility product, and a glasses-based payment feature from Qualcomm and partners was a demonstration—not evidence of a generally available service.
What was shown at IMC 2026
The 10th India Mobile Congress took place October 7–10, 2026, at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi, under the theme “Scale Without Boundaries.” The official India Mobile Congress site lists areas including AI, gadgets and devices, semiconductors, and 6G. The wearable examples highlighted a shift toward voice-led assistance and specific everyday tasks, rather than tracking alone.
The most useful distinction is between what is already described as a product and what remains a plan or demonstration. Jio’s proposed devices did not have a confirmed release date or price in the report; Torchit’s Jyoti glasses were reported as an existing product; and Qualcomm’s payment example was a partner-developed demonstration.

Jio’s planned glasses and audio devices
Business Standard reported on October 9, 2026, that Reliance Intelligence was developing glasses and audio-device form factors to give users access to Jio’s AI services. The company expected an India launch around November or December 2026, but that was a reported expectation—not a confirmed date or proof that devices were on sale. The report did not give final product names or prices.

Users would activate the assistant with the voice command “Hello, Jio.” The company was considering audio-only frames, camera-equipped frames, and true wireless stereo (TWS) headsets, and was working with multiple vendors.
Languages
At the time of the report, Jio said the devices supported Hindi, English, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. It planned to add four more languages, but did not name them. Jio said it wanted the devices to be affordable; no price was provided.

Qualcomm’s partner demonstrations and proposed uses
Qualcomm described possible applications in payments, education, and productivity. Sumit Sonal, head of marketing at Qualcomm India, said the company had demonstrated a glasses-based payment solution with Lenskart and NPCI. The demonstration used voice or fingerprint authentication; it does not establish that a broadly available glasses payment service exists.
Sonal also cited an education and upskilling solution developed by Asus with Qualcomm. He said automotive companies had approached Qualcomm about using glasses and displays for navigation and communication, including for two-wheeler riders who might otherwise look down at their phones. These were reported examples and prospective applications, not proof of commercial availability or of improved road safety.

How to read the status of the announcements
| Example | Purpose | Status reported at IMC 2026 | Price or timing stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jio glasses and audio devices | Translation, note-taking, payments, calls, music, cricket commentary | In development; proposed glasses and audio form factors | India launch expected around November or December 2026, per Business Standard’s October 9 report; no final price stated |
| Torchit Jyoti glasses | Visual accessibility tasks including reading and identifying surroundings or items | Existing product; latest wireless version reported launched in July 2026 | Approximately ₹20,000–₹25,000, according to Torchit executive Hema Khatri as reported by Business Standard in 2026 |
| Qualcomm, Lenskart and NPCI payment solution | Glasses-based payment using voice or fingerprint authentication | Partner-led demonstration, as reported by Business Standard; commercial availability not established | Not stated by Business Standard |
The comparison matters because a planned feature, a product description, and a demonstration do not provide the same evidence. The Business Standard report supplies company-reported capabilities and plans, but not independent hands-on testing of the devices.
Why the India-specific focus matters
The examples target needs that can be especially relevant when an interface is hands-free, voice-led, or designed around local language access: understanding speech across languages, capturing notes without using a phone, and getting spoken information about text or everyday surroundings. The reported eight-language list for Jio is concrete, while its four additional planned languages remain unspecified. Jyoti, by contrast, is framed around accessibility rather than as a general-purpose consumer assistant.

IMC’s official event framing placed these announcements within a broader technology showcase, not a measured assessment of wearable adoption. The Ministry of Communications’ October 5, 2026 event release described projected event scale—including attendees, exhibitors, startups, sessions, and investor meetings—as expectations ahead of the congress. Those projections are not final attendance results or evidence of market demand for AI wearables.
