The IKEA STARKVIND E2007 is a better fit for people prioritizing airborne particles than for anyone expecting strong gas or odor removal. In Forbrugerrådet Tænk’s accessible test results, particle cleaning rated good while gas cleaning rated poor. Its five fan levels also trade airflow for noise and power, so the most useful choice depends on the setting you can comfortably run.
What the STARKVIND E2007 is—and what the test says
IKEA identifies this model as the STARKVIND air purifier, type E2007. It measures 51 cm wide, 53 cm high and 19 cm deep, and weighs about 5.9 kg, according to IKEA’s E2007 manual.
Forbrugerrådet Tænk gives the purifier an overall score of 67% in a comparison of 27 products. Its accessible product page rates particle cleaning “Good” and gas cleaning “Poor.” The page does not state the test year, so these results should be read as the published test findings without assigning them a date. Tænk reports a measured smoke CADR of 330 m³/h, compared with a stated value of 270 m³/h, and lists 20 m² as the stated room area and 27 m² as the suitable maximum area from its test. These figures come from different contexts: IKEA’s manual gives manufacturer CADR values by fan level, while Tænk reports its own test measurements and room-area method. IKEA’s US product page currently frames coverage as up to 215 square feet (about 20 m²); do not treat that regional specification and Tænk’s test-based maximum as interchangeable.

Particle filtration and the optional gas filter
For dust, pollen and fine particles
The unit includes a particle filter. IKEA says it is optimized to filter approximately 99.5% of smaller airborne particles such as PM2.5, dust and pollen. That is a manufacturer claim on IKEA’s US product page, not the same thing as an independent result. Tænk’s particle-cleaning rating provides the independent context: it rates the tested setup good.
For some gases and odors
IKEA sells an optional gas filter intended for certain gaseous pollutants, including formaldehyde, and says it can reduce smoke and cooking odors. The Tænk page says this optional filter was available separately and was not tested. Its poor gas-cleaning rating therefore should not be presented as a test of the optional gas filter or as proof that the optional filter succeeds or fails.

Installing the gas filter also reduces the manual’s listed maximum CADR from 270 m³/h with the particle filter alone to 240 m³/h with both filters. That is a meaningful trade-off if you want to target some gases and odors while retaining particle filtration.

IKEA’s manual lists particle-only figures first, followed in parentheses by figures with the gas filter installed. CADR is clean air delivery rate; higher values mean more filtered air delivered per hour. Noise and power rise substantially as fan speed increases.

These are manufacturer figures from the manual, not independent noise measurements. Tænk describes overall noise as below average, with poor measured noise, but says perceived noise was very good at low setting and medium at maximum. Its energy category is good: standby use and CADR per watt rated very good, minimum/rest consumption below average, and maximum consumption good. The accessible page does not state the test year.
In practical terms, the lowest level uses little power and is listed at 24 dB(A), but delivers only 55 m³/h without the gas filter. The highest particle-only level delivers 270 m³/h at 53 dB(A) and 33 W. If you expect to run it near a bed or desk, compare the airflow you need with the noise level you will tolerate rather than relying on the maximum CADR alone.

Auto mode, sensing and smart-home control
The manual says Auto mode adjusts fan speed according to ambient air quality. Its sensor measures PM2.5 while the purifier is running; it does not measure gases. The manual also says air-quality status in the app is available only through the IKEA Home smart app.

Filter care and replacement
- Clean the pre-filter every two to four weeks, as IKEA recommends.
- Clean the air-quality sensor every six months.
- IKEA recommends replacing both the particle and gas filters every six months. The manual cautions that replacement cycles may differ depending on the operating environment.
- After changing a filter, press and hold RESET for three seconds to initialize the filter counter.
IKEA’s UK filter-change instructions say to unplug the purifier, remove the front and black pre-filter, and then access the particle and/or gas filter. Check local filter availability and the exact E2007 fit before ordering; current replacement-filter prices are not established here.
Who should consider the E2007?
- Consider it if: particle filtration is your main goal, you can choose a fan speed that suits your noise tolerance, and you are comfortable keeping up with filter maintenance.
- Consider the gas filter if: you also want to target some gaseous pollutants or odors and accept the lower listed CADR. The independent test cited here did not evaluate that optional filter.
- Look elsewhere if: independently demonstrated gas cleaning is your priority, or if you need quiet operation at high airflow. The available test rates gas cleaning poor for the tested setup, and the manual’s maximum-speed figures are 51–53 dB(A), depending on filter configuration.
- For smart control: factor in the compatible IKEA hub requirement; app functionality is not simply built into the purifier as a standalone network feature.
When comparing another purifier, compare particle CADR and the basis for its room-size claim, gas performance and whether the gas filter was tested, noise and power at usable speeds, filter replacement cadence and local filter cost, and whether smart features require a hub.
