Short answer: IKEA’s ÅSVANG is a 4¾-inch, medium-firm, single-layer foam mattress with a removable, washable cover. Its specifications and customer feedback make it possible to assess what you’re buying, but they do not establish how it performs for pressure relief, edge support, motion transfer, temperature, or long-term durability. Consider it if you want a simple, thin foam mattress and its dimensions suit your setup; seek hands-on evidence before relying on it for a specific comfort need.
What the IKEA ÅSVANG mattress is
IKEA describes ÅSVANG as a medium-firm foam mattress. It is 4¾ inches thick and has one polyurethane foam layer under a quilted cover with wadding. The mattress is roll-packed. IKEA’s US listings offer Twin, Full, and Queen sizes, though sizes, dimensions, prices, and availability vary by market.
The US Queen listing specifies foam density of 1.7 lb/cu.ft. That is a material specification, not a measure of comfort or a guarantee of lifespan. IKEA says the mattress has been tested to the durability requirements in EN 1957 and meets the flammability requirements in 16 CFR 1633/1632; those statements do not establish superior durability or a particular comfort level. See the IKEA US Queen listing and IKEA US Twin listing for the product details.

Materials and cover care

What customer reviews can tell you
The IKEA US product listing showed a rating of 3.8 out of 5 from 172 reviews when checked for this article. This is a changing retailer-hosted average, not a controlled performance test, and it may change as reviews are added. Individual reviews on IKEA Canada describe uses such as a trailer or trundle and include one customer’s description of the mattress as medium-firm. Those comments are personal experiences, not evidence of typical comfort or suitability across sleepers. The IKEA Canada Full listing is a source for those customer remarks.

What the available evidence does not establish
The available product specifications and customer remarks do not establish how ÅSVANG feels under different body types or sleeping positions, or how it compares in pressure relief, edge support, motion isolation, heat retention, or long-term resistance to sagging. No independent hands-on test is represented here, so there is no basis to describe those characteristics as measured or verified.
IKEA’s listing says, “Your body also needs a couple of weeks to adapt to the new mattress.” Treat that as IKEA’s product guidance, not an independent clinical finding. IKEA also says a new mattress may have an initial smell that is not harmful or toxic and fades over time; airing and vacuuming can help it dissipate faster.

Warranty and checks before buying
IKEA states that a 10-year limited warranty applies to the complete mattress and directs customers to its warranty booklet for the terms. Review the booklet and your local store’s return or exchange terms before purchasing; the warranty period alone does not explain what is covered or how a claim is handled.
- Confirm the dimensions against your bed frame and intended use.
- Check your local listing for the available size, current price, stock, and stated firmness.
- Read the warranty booklet and local return or exchange policy.
- If cleanliness is a priority, consider a mattress protector in the matching size.
Who should consider ÅSVANG?
ÅSVANG may suit someone looking for a straightforward, thin foam mattress whose stated medium-firm feel and dimensions meet their needs. Its published specifications can help you judge construction, cover care, and fit, but they cannot answer whether it will feel comfortable to you. If you need dependable evidence about a particular comfort issue, look for a hands-on review that tests that issue or try the mattress in person where possible.
