The IKEA ÅFJÄLL is a 12 cm foam mattress sold in firm and medium-firm versions. Its specifications make it a practical option to consider for a day-bed or another setup that calls for a relatively slim mattress, but the right choice depends on your bed’s dimensions and your firmness preference. IKEA’s listings provide construction and care details; they do not establish how comfortable or durable the mattress will feel for you.
What the IKEA ÅFJÄLL is
ÅFJÄLL is a foam mattress that IKEA UK lists at 12 cm thick. The firm version’s listing describes resilient polyurethane foam and a quilted cover with wadding. IKEA’s medium-firm listing describes two layers of resilient foam, with a soft layer of wadding in the cover. The UK specification gives the foam density as 33 kg/cu.m. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. IKEA UK firm ÅFJÄLL listing; IKEA UK medium-firm ÅFJÄLL listing.
IKEA lists polyester for the ticking and filling, with at least 70% recycled polyester in the filling, polypropylene for the underside, and polyurethane foam. Check the local product page for the exact specifications of the size and variant you intend to buy.
Firm or medium firm: which version should you choose?
IKEA sells ÅFJÄLL in firm and medium-firm variants. Firmness labels are useful for narrowing a choice, but they are not a substitute for trying a mattress: individual comfort depends on body shape, sleeping position, preference and the bed base. The available information does not establish comparative comfort or support for either version.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If you are considering the medium-firm 80×200 cm model for nightly use on a day-bed, IKEA specifically says that this size is suitable for use with a day-bed. Confirm that the bed’s sleeping surface is also 80×200 cm and that a 12 cm mattress is appropriate for its frame. Then choose firmness based on your preference rather than assuming the day-bed designation means it will suit every sleeper.

There is not enough model-specific independent testing here to give a reliable verdict on comfort, heat retention, edge support, motion transfer or durability. IKEA’s firmness labels and construction details tell you what the mattress is specified to be, not how it will perform for a particular sleeper. If possible, try the mattress under the conditions in which you plan to use it, and check the retailer’s current return policy before purchase.
