iFi’s UP Play and UP Play Max plug into a USB-C source and transmit its audio to Bluetooth headphones or another compatible Bluetooth audio receiver. The UP Play supports LDAC and several aptX codecs; the UP Play Max adds aptX Lossless and Bluetooth 5.4. A receiving device must support the codec you want to use, and console compatibility should be checked by exact model: iFi’s UP Play Max manual names PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2, not the original Nintendo Switch.
What the UP Play transmitters do
Both models are USB-C Bluetooth transmitters, not headphones and not Bluetooth receivers. Connect one to a compatible device’s USB-C port and it takes audio from that source and sends it over Bluetooth to paired headphones or another Bluetooth audio receiver. iFi markets the UP Play for Apple and Android sources, as well as laptops and gaming devices.
On an iPhone, the transmitter adds its own Bluetooth codec options for audio sent to a compatible receiver. It does not change the iPhone’s native Bluetooth codec support, and it cannot make headphones use a codec they do not support.

Prices are UK store listing snapshots from 2026 and can change; they are not universal prices. The Max launch announcement also gave launch prices of £89, €99, US$89 and CAD$149 in 2026, which should not be treated as current local pricing.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Which Bluetooth codec will you get?
The transmitter and receiving headphones or DAC must both support a codec for that codec to be used. The connection is therefore limited by the codecs supported at both ends, rather than by the transmitter’s list alone. If the receiver lacks LDAC, for example, buying the UP Play does not add LDAC to that receiver.
LDAC and iPhone use
The UP Play lists LDAC, but an iPhone does not natively send Bluetooth audio using LDAC. The UP Play is intended to provide an alternate transmission path through its USB-C connection; LDAC still requires a compatible receiving device. The accessory does not upgrade the iPhone’s built-in Bluetooth radio or make every Bluetooth headphone an LDAC headphone.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
What aptX Lossless on the Max means
iFi describes aptX Lossless as CD-quality lossless Bluetooth audio. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently measured result here, and it depends on a compatible receiving device and operating conditions. It is not a guarantee of lossless playback with every headphone or every source.
Using either model for gaming
Both models have an app-managed low-latency mode associated with aptX Adaptive. iFi says the Nexis app is used to toggle the mode. A low-latency codec or transmitter setting alone does not establish the delay a particular headphone will deliver, so confirm codec support at the headphone end and do not assume that every Bluetooth gaming setup will be delay-free.

PS5 and Nintendo Switch compatibility
The reviewed UP Play Max manual material explicitly names PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2. It does not establish support for the original Nintendo Switch, so do not treat “Switch 2” as shorthand for every Switch model. The same material does not establish console examples for the standard UP Play. Check the current manual and the exact console model before buying if console use is the main reason for choosing a transmitter.
Sharing audio with two headphone pairs
iFi describes simultaneous connection to two headphone pairs on both models. Its launch materials say two-device playback uses SBC, so dual listening should not be assumed to retain LDAC, aptX Adaptive or aptX Lossless. The Max launch announcement also described Auracast support as a feature planned for a post-launch firmware update; current availability is not established here. The Nexis app is identified as the place to manage supported features and over-the-air updates.

Pairing and app controls
The UP Play Max manual copy describes the USB-C connector as supplying both power and audio from the source device. It also describes a selector for device A/B and connection modes A+B, A or B. The Nexis app is used to manage paired devices and codecs, control K2 and low-latency features, and install updates; Max launch materials also name Auracast control. Exact indicator colors and button behavior can vary with model or firmware, so consult the current manufacturer manual for device-specific operation.
Which model should you choose?
- Choose UP Play if its listed codecs meet your needs and you do not need the Max’s aptX Lossless listing or Bluetooth 5.4 specification.
- Consider UP Play Max if you have a compatible aptX Lossless receiver, or its specifically documented console support matches your setup.
- Check the receiving device first if LDAC, an aptX codec, two-headphone listening or low-latency gaming is your priority.
These are specification-based distinctions. No independent listening, latency, call-quality or console testing is established for these products here.
