Not across the board. Lenovo’s newer tablets have closed some of the gap with Apple’s iPad Air, especially in display size, refresh rate, included accessories on selected models, and promised software support. But “Lenovo tablet” covers very different devices, and the iPad Air M4 still has a strong case for buyers who depend on Apple’s apps, ecosystem, and performance. A useful comparison starts with a specific model: here, the entertainment-focused Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 and the similarly sized 11-inch iPad Air M4.
Which Lenovo tablet is the comparison about?
Lenovo sells tablets for distinct jobs, so the brand name alone is not a meaningful alternative to an iPad Air. The Tab Plus Gen 2 is positioned for entertainment, while the Yoga range is aimed at creators and productivity. Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 is listed in Lenovo’s India catalog as a large-screen student-focused tablet.
- Tab Plus Gen 2: A 12.1-inch entertainment tablet with a high-refresh-rate display and a JBL speaker system. Lenovo announced it on June 16, 2026. Lenovo’s announcement describes its specifications and planned support.
- Idea Tab Pro Gen 2: An India-market model with a 13-inch 3.5K matte-display option and 144Hz refresh rate. Its specifications and support terms should not be assumed to apply to other markets. See Lenovo India’s listing.
- Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 and Yoga Tab Gen 2: Lenovo announced these as creator and portable productivity options. The Plus model has a 13-inch 4K display and an optional magnetic keyboard; the 11-inch Yoga Tab is the more portable model and is announced with a detachable keyboard pack and Tab Pen Pro 2. Lenovo estimated September 2026 availability, so check regional listings for current stock and terms. Lenovo’s Yoga announcement gives the announced details.
How does the Tab Plus Gen 2 compare with the 11-inch iPad Air M4?
The closest simple size comparison in the available specifications is Lenovo’s 12.1-inch Tab Plus Gen 2 against Apple’s 11-inch iPad Air M4. They differ in purpose and ecosystem, and the published figures below do not establish which one performs better in a shared real-world workload.
| Feature | Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 | Apple iPad Air M4, 11-inch |
|---|---|---|
| Display size and resolution | 12.1 inches; 2560 × 1600 LCD, according to Lenovo | 11 inches; 2360 × 1640, as listed in TechRadar’s 2026 review |
| Refresh rate | 120Hz, according to Lenovo | Not stated in the cited Apple comparison page or TechRadar review |
| Other display claims | Dolby Vision and HDR10, according to Lenovo | TechRadar describes the display as largely unchanged from prior generations; the cited material does not provide a comparable HDR claim |
| Speakers | Nine-unit JBL speaker setup, according to Lenovo | Not stated in the cited sources |
| Included accessories | Lenovo lists Tab Pen Plus, Lenovo Wireless Keyboard, and a 68W USB-C wall charger as compatible accessories sold separately | Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard costs should be included if needed; the cited review does not establish a bundle price |
| Operating system at launch | Android 16, according to Lenovo | iPadOS; the cited sources do not specify a version here |
| Promised OS upgrades and security support | Two OS upgrades through Android 18 and security patches through 2030, according to Lenovo | Not stated in the cited sources |
| Storage options | Not stated in the cited announcement | 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB, according to TechRadar’s 2026 review |
| Connectivity | Not stated in the cited announcement | Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, according to TechRadar’s 2026 review |
| Price and total setup cost | Not stated in the cited announcement; check the regional tablet and separate-accessory prices | Not stated in the cited review; add the price of any required Apple Pencil or Magic Keyboard |
Lenovo’s display and speaker figures are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Apple lists the 11- and 13-inch M4 Air in its current iPad comparison lineup. The resolution numbers are not directly interchangeable measures of quality: screen size, aspect ratio, brightness, color, software scaling, and the task all affect what a person sees.

Where Lenovo has narrowed the gap
A larger, faster screen on the Tab Plus Gen 2
The Tab Plus Gen 2 offers a larger display than the 11-inch Air and a stated 120Hz refresh rate. That can make motion and scrolling feel smoother, and the larger panel can be convenient for video or split-screen use. It does not prove that the screen is brighter, more color-accurate, or better for every task; the available specifications do not provide a like-for-like independent measurement.
Longer announced support on the new Yoga models
Lenovo’s newer Yoga announcement promises seven OS upgrades through Android 24 and up to seven years of security updates through 2033 for the two announced Yoga tablets. That is a notable commitment, but it is not the support policy for every Lenovo tablet. The Tab Plus Gen 2 and India-listed Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 are described with two OS upgrades through Android 18 and security updates through 2030. Confirm the exact model, region, and support terms before buying. Lenovo’s Android upgrade and security update information is a useful place to check model-specific support.

Accessories can change the value calculation
A tablet’s real cost depends on how it will be used. Lenovo says the Tab Plus Gen 2’s pen and wireless keyboard are compatible but sold separately; the Yoga announcement describes a detachable keyboard pack for the smaller Yoga Tab and an optional magnetic keyboard for the Yoga Tab Plus. Apple’s Pencil and Magic Keyboard are also additional costs when relevant. Compare the exact regional bundle and the total for the accessories you actually need, rather than judging value from the tablet price alone.

Why the iPad Air is still relevant
Apps and workflows matter as much as hardware
A tablet is only useful if it runs the apps and workflows a buyer needs. Someone already using Apple devices, relying on iPad-specific apps, or sharing work through Apple’s ecosystem may find the Air more practical than a larger or faster-refreshing Android screen. Conversely, a buyer whose preferred apps and services work well on Android may have little reason to pay for Apple’s platform. The cited sources do not provide an app-by-app comparison, so check essential apps and accessory compatibility directly before choosing.

The M4 Air has strong reviewer-measured performance
In TechRadar’s 2026 review of the 13-inch iPad Air M4, the reviewer measured Geekbench 6 results of 3,745 single-core and 13,342 multi-core. Those are the reviewer’s results for that iPad, not a Lenovo-versus-iPad test. They cannot establish how the Air compares with any Lenovo model under the same workload. TechRadar characterizes the M4 update as iterative and says M2 and M3 owners may not need to upgrade, while buyers coming from older devices get a current, powerful option. See TechRadar’s 2026 iPad Air M4 review.
Portability favors the smaller device only if it suits the job
The 11-inch Air is smaller than the 12.1-inch Tab Plus Gen 2 and the 13-inch Lenovo options discussed here. A smaller tablet may be easier to carry or hold, but the available specifications do not establish comparative weight, thickness, or battery life. Check those details for the exact models and configurations if portability is a deciding factor.

How to choose without being misled by headline specs
- Choose the job first. For video and room-filling sound, consider the Tab Plus Gen 2’s stated screen and speaker configuration. For creative work or a keyboard-centered setup, compare the specific Yoga model and the iPad Air configuration you would actually use.
- Match screen sizes and storage. Compare 11-inch with 11-inch or 13-inch with 13-inch where possible, then match storage. The available sources do not establish every Lenovo storage tier or regional price, so verify the SKU rather than comparing incomplete listings.
- Price the complete setup. Add a compatible pen, keyboard, charger, and any other required accessory. Confirm which items are included in the exact market’s box and which are sold separately.
- Check essential software. Confirm that the apps, file handling, cloud services, and accessories central to your work are supported on the operating system you plan to buy.
- Verify support for the exact model. Lenovo’s announced update promises vary substantially between Tab Plus, Idea Tab Pro, and Yoga products. Do not transfer one model’s dates to another.
- Use performance evidence carefully. The cited Geekbench results are from a reviewer’s iPad test, not a controlled comparison with a Lenovo tablet. A meaningful head-to-head verdict would require the same workload and conditions on both devices.
Does Lenovo’s upgrading make the iPad Air irrelevant?
No. Lenovo has credible alternatives for particular priorities: a larger, high-refresh-rate entertainment screen on Tab Plus Gen 2, a high-refresh-rate large-screen Idea Tab Pro option in India, and newly announced Yoga models with longer stated support. But these are different products with different availability, accessory costs, software, and use cases. The iPad Air M4 remains relevant for buyers who value iPadOS, Apple’s app and device ecosystem, and a current high-performance tablet. Choose by exact model and workflow, not by treating “Lenovo tablet” as one device or one support promise.
