Choose Sync.com if you want private encryption across your account, longer recovery history on specified team plans, or more explicit team-administration controls. Choose Icedrive if a larger free allowance or its folder-based encrypted-storage model better fits your needs. The services differ in what they protect and how their plans are structured, so there is no universal winner.
How does Icedrive compare to Sync.com?
The main differences are encryption coverage, plan structure, recovery history, and team features. Sync.com describes end-to-end encryption and zero-knowledge authentication for its cloud storage. Icedrive offers client-side encryption for data you select for its encrypted area; that is not the same as encrypting every file in an account.
| What matters | Icedrive | Sync.com |
|---|---|---|
| Private encryption coverage | Selected encrypted data; Cloudwards characterizes private encryption as limited to one encrypted folder and paid plans. | Provider describes end-to-end encryption and zero-knowledge authentication for its cloud storage. |
| Free storage | 10 GB on the official plans page. | Basic plan includes 25 GB, according to Sync’s cloud storage page. |
| Paid storage choices | 2 TB, 4 TB, and 6 TB plans on the official plans page. | Multiple individual and team tiers; team plans are priced per user and have a three-user minimum. |
| Recovery history | 30, 60, or 90 days across paid tiers, as listed on Icedrive’s plans page. | 30 days on Basic; team plans list 180 days for Teams 1 TB and 365 days for Teams 2 TB and 10 TB. |
| Team administration | Collaboration and public-link controls are listed; check the selected plan for required organizational controls. | Team pricing matrix lists admin tools, file requests, comments, advanced sharing, and selected-tier role permissions and custom branding. |
For an independent feature comparison, see Cloudwards’ Icedrive vs Sync.com comparison. The specific storage, recovery, and pricing terms below come from the providers’ plan pages and can change.

Both providers describe encryption protections, but the scope is important. Icedrive’s support documentation says data chosen for encryption is encrypted client-side with a 256-bit key generated on the device and not passed to its servers. Its separate explanation describes client-side processing before data is sent for storage. These statements concern selected encrypted data, not every item stored in an Icedrive account. Cloudwards describes Icedrive’s private encryption as limited to one encrypted folder and paid plans.

Sync says files are encrypted before leaving the device and that it does not hold the decryption keys; its security page also describes end-to-end encryption and zero-knowledge authentication. These are provider statements and a specialist comparison’s description, not independent cryptographic audits. Review the providers’ explanations: Icedrive on access to encrypted data, Icedrive’s encryption process, Sync.com security, and Sync.com cloud storage and encryption.
Sync’s security page also describes data residency, GDPR-related options, SOC 2-certified data-center locations, a 99.9% or better uptime SLA, two-factor authentication, permissions, and remote wipe. Those provider-described features do not by themselves establish that a particular plan and workflow meet your regulatory obligations; confirm the contract, data location, and plan against your requirements.

How much storage do the plans include?
Icedrive capacity
Icedrive’s current official plans page lists 10 GB free, then paid plans with 2 TB, 4 TB, and 6 TB. The page also lists desktop virtual drive and desktop sync for paid tiers, plus two-factor-authentication options. Its extracted plan comparison does not state prices, so a reliable current price comparison cannot be made from those listed capacities alone. Check Icedrive’s live plans and pricing for the price and billing terms that apply to your region and account.
Sync.com capacity and team pricing
Sync’s official pages show multiple individual and team options. Its cloud storage page describes a Basic plan with 25 GB. The team pricing page, as accessed October 7, 2026, displayed these team terms:

The page specified a three-user minimum and displayed a 50% off banner at that time. Treat the figures as a dated snapshot of the displayed terms, not permanent rates or a like-for-like comparison with Icedrive’s single-account plans. Check Sync.com’s pricing page for current checkout terms, user count, billing cadence, and applicable promotion before choosing.
Which service has better file recovery?
Recovery periods depend on the exact plan. Icedrive’s official plans page lists 30, 60, or 90 days of file versions across its paid tiers. Sync’s team pricing matrix lists 180-day history for Teams 1 TB and 365-day history for Teams 2 TB and Teams 10 TB. Sync’s cloud storage page separately states that Basic includes 30-day recovery. Do not assume the team-plan history applies to every Sync individual plan.
If restoring older edits or deleted files is central to your choice, compare the selected plan’s version-history terms directly; a longer history is useful only if it applies to the account and files you need to recover.

Which service is better for sharing and collaboration?
Sync’s team matrix names a broader set of administrative and collaboration controls: admin tools, file requests, comments, and advanced sharing, with role-based permissions and custom branding on selected tiers. This makes its team offering easier to evaluate against organizational needs, but the precise feature set depends on tier.
Icedrive lists collaboration and public-link controls, though the available details do not establish that every organizational control is present on every plan. For either service, verify permissions, external-sharing rules, and administrative features on the exact plan before moving a team’s files.

How should you make the final choice?
- Pick Sync.com when your priority is provider-described private encryption across cloud storage, or when the stated recovery periods and named administrative controls on its team plans match your workflow.
- Pick Icedrive when the 10 GB free tier or 2 TB–6 TB paid capacity range better suits your storage needs and you are comfortable managing private encryption through its selected encrypted area.
- Compare total cost, not just the headline rate. For Sync teams, account for the three-user minimum and per-user billing. For either provider, check current regional pricing, billing term, capacity, and promotion at checkout.
- For regulated or sensitive organizational data, confirm contractual terms, data location, encryption scope, and plan-specific controls rather than relying on a general compliance or security statement.
