I spent years without Spotify on my VIDAA smart TV, so when the app arrived in early June 2026, I installed it. The surprise was how much better Spotify’s music videos felt on the big screen: I had relied on YouTube for videos, but now I’m building playlists that span decades. That’s my reaction to one TV and one viewing habit, not a verdict for every Spotify listener or television.
Why Spotify’s music videos clicked on my TV
On my phone, Spotify’s video experience still feels clunky to me. On a television, a music video has room to be the focus instead of a small moving image alongside everything else on a mobile screen. The TV also suits the way I want to watch: pick a song, let the video play, and keep going through a playlist.
I had used YouTube when I wanted to watch music videos. Since Spotify arrived on my VIDAA TV, I’ve started making playlists that reach across decades. I’m not claiming Spotify has every video I want, or that everyone will prefer its catalog. The change is that having the app on the screen where I want to watch made me more interested in trying its video library.
What Spotify’s music-video feature offers
Spotify describes music videos as a Premium feature, available on mobile and tablet, desktop, web player, and TV. Its support page says the catalog contains thousands of videos across genres, but a video is available only for a supported track; not every song has one. For a supported track, Spotify’s December 9, 2025 announcement says a listener can switch from audio to video and back again. Playback begins from where the song left off when switching modes, so the video does not require starting the track over. Spotify described the catalog as limited while the feature was in beta at that time; that wording describes the 2025 rollout, not a current count of videos. Spotify’s announcement gives the original US and Canada instructions.
How to get Spotify playing on a TV
The best route depends on whether Spotify’s TV app is available for your television and whether music videos work on your exact setup. Spotify lists TV apps as well as Chromecast, AirPlay, and Now Smart Stick as ways to connect Spotify to a TV. Its general connection guidance does not guarantee music-video support across every device, app version, market, plan, or casting method.

Look for the native TV app
- Open the app store on your TV or set-top box and search for Spotify.
- If the app is available, install it, open Spotify, and sign in using the on-screen instructions.
- Try a track known to have a music video and check whether the app offers a switch to video. Audio playback working does not by itself confirm video support.

Connect from another device
If Spotify is not available as a native app, Spotify documents Chromecast, Apple AirPlay, and Now Smart Stick as other TV connection options. You can also use Spotify Connect to transfer a listening session to a TV. Spotify’s music-video announcement explains switching a supported track between audio and video, while its support guidance describes transferring a session; the precise controls can vary with the TV operating system and app interface. Verify that the route you choose plays music videos—not just audio—before relying on it.

Check availability before you expect videos
Spotify’s rollout statements have changed over time and are not a live country-by-country availability list. In October 2024, Spotify said its beta had expanded from 12 initial markets to 97. In December 2025, the company said the beta was available to all Premium users in the US and Canada. Those are dated snapshots, not proof that the feature is available to every Premium subscriber today.
Spotify’s December 2025 announcement also said that its personalized “Videos for You” playlist became available from June 15, 2026, to Premium users in the US and Canada and most markets where music videos were available. The announcement does not establish a definitive current list of eligible countries. Check your Spotify account and the app in your market, and remember that the feature requires both an eligible plan and a track with a video.

Spotify has reported that listeners who discovered a track and watched its video were 34% more likely to stream that song again the following week, and 24% more likely to save or share it during the following week, than listeners who discovered it without watching the video. These are Spotify-reported associations, not evidence that watching a video caused the later behavior. The company also reported a Burson survey in which more than 70% of 8,400 respondents across 19 markets said more video content would enhance their Spotify experience; the survey ran from August 27 to October 3, 2025. That is an opinion survey, not an adoption or satisfaction rate.

If you would rather not see video, Spotify announced in April 2026 that video controls apply across mobile, desktop, web, and TV. For an audio-first setting, look under Settings > Content and display. Spotify said family managers could control video for members on family plans, while settings for other Premium, Basic, and free users would begin rolling out globally that month. Because this was a rollout, the setting’s visibility may vary by account. Spotify also notes that video ads may still appear.

When Spotify does not appear or videos will not play
- The app is missing: Search the TV or set-top-box app store. Spotify’s general TV guidance does not mean the app is offered on every model or operating system.
- The app opens but has a problem: Check the internet connection and app updates, then check for TV software updates. Restart the app, TV, or Wi-Fi, or reinstall the app.
- Audio works but video does not: Try a track with a supported video and confirm that music videos are available for your plan and market. Check feature support for your specific TV app or casting route; Spotify’s list of TV connection methods is not a guarantee of video parity.
- The issue persists: Spotify directs users with persistent TV-app problems to the television manufacturer.
My verdict is personal, not universal
I still find Spotify’s mobile video experience awkward, but on my VIDAA television the larger screen changed how I use the feature. I’m now making long, era-spanning playlists instead of treating Spotify as audio only. Whether that works for you depends on the videos you want, their availability in your market, and whether your TV setup supports them.
