The $249 Logitech G Pro X3 Lightspeed delivers excellent competitive-game audio, but its leatherette earcups can become uncomfortably hot during long sessions. That heat, combined with a 50-hour battery and missing convenience features such as simultaneous multipoint and a game/chat mixer, makes comfort and controls the key questions before you buy.
What the Logitech G Pro X3 Lightspeed is
The Logitech G Pro X3 Lightspeed is a premium wireless gaming headset priced at $249 in the United States. Tom’s Guide reviewer Peter Wolinski reviewed it on October 15, 2026, using it with PC, macOS and PlayStation 5. It connects through a 2.4 GHz USB-A wireless receiver, Bluetooth 5.3 or a 3.5 mm wired connection.
Its design is aimed at competitive players who value positional detail. The headset uses 50 mm graphene drivers, a 10-band equalizer and a claimed wireless range of 98 feet (30 meters). Build quality and weight are described as strong points, and the headset is light enough for extended play when heat is not an issue.

Wolinski describes the sound as “fantastic,” with expansive treble and strong imaging. The default tuning puts emphasis on upper frequencies, making cues such as footsteps, reloads and other positional sounds easier to pick out in shooters.
#1 Best Overall
- Enjoy expansive cinematic sound. Big 50 mm audio drivers deliver an incredible sound experience
- Hear Enemies From All Sides. DTS Headphone:X 2.0 surround sound(1) lets you hear enemies sneaking behind you, special ability cues, and immersive environments. It’s positional clarity that can make the difference between victory and defeat. Experience three-dimensional audio that goes beyond 7.1 channels to make you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action. (1) DTS Headphone:X 2.0 requires Logitech G HUB Software.
- Be Heard Loud and Clear. The big 6 mm boom mic makes sure you’re heard by gaming partners and mutes when flipped up.
- Use One Headset For Most Game Platforms. Your headphones work with your PC or Mac via USB DAC or 3.5 mm cable, mobile devices with 3.5 mm cable or with gaming consoles including PlayStationⓇ 5 and PlayStationⓇ 4 (USB wireless stereo sound only), Nintendo Switch (wireless stereo sound when docked)
- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
The same tuning can become a liability. Bright upper frequencies may sound harsh or piercing, particularly at high volume or in recordings that already contain aggressive treble. The 10-band EQ gives you a way to reduce those frequencies rather than accepting the default profile. A practical starting point is to lower the highest bands slightly, then raise them only if you lose useful directional cues.
Why the earcups can make your ears hurt
The main comfort problem is heat buildup. The included leatherette pads sealed well but became “way too hot” after a few hours in the reviewer’s experience. Heat and moisture can make the earcups feel tighter over time, even when the headset’s weight and clamping force initially seem comfortable.

Wolinski also disclosed Eustachian Tube Dysfunction and reported in-ear pain, sensitivity and worsening tinnitus while using the hot pads. That is an individual medical experience, not evidence that the headset causes those symptoms for everyone. If wearing any headset produces pain, pressure, hearing changes or tinnitus, stop using it and seek medical advice rather than trying to push through the discomfort.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →What happens with the fabric pads
Logitech includes fabric pads as an alternative. They changed the sound isolation and felt sticky in a warm room during the review. They may be preferable if you cannot tolerate leatherette heat, but switching pads changes the acoustic seal, so expect the tonal balance and outside-noise blocking to differ from the default setup.
Ways to reduce heat during sessions
- Take regular breaks before the earcups become damp or painful.
- Use the fabric pads if their different isolation and feel suit your environment.
- Lower room temperature and avoid covering the earcups with a hat or hood.
- Reduce clamping pressure only if the fit remains stable; a loose seal can hurt positional imaging.
- Stop immediately if you experience pain, tinnitus or unusual pressure.
Battery life and missing features
Logitech rates the Pro X3 Lightspeed for 50 hours of battery life. Tom’s Guide considers that mediocre for a $249 headset because similarly priced competitors are advertised at up to about 70 hours. The 50-hour figure is a manufacturer rating, so runtime will vary with volume, wireless mode, microphone use and other settings.

Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz wireless cannot be used simultaneously; you must switch between them manually. That matters if you want to hear a phone call while remaining connected to a game, or if you regularly move between a computer and another device.

Connections and platform support
| Connection | What it supports | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| 2.4 GHz USB-A | Low-latency wireless gaming on compatible computers and consoles | Requires an available USB-A port or a suitable adapter |
| Bluetooth 5.3 | Wireless connection to supported computers and mobile devices | Cannot run simultaneously with 2.4 GHz |
| 3.5 mm wired | Analog audio on devices with a headset jack | Wireless features and battery operation are not used in wired mode |
The reviewed compatibility covers PC, macOS and PlayStation 5. Check the ports on your specific computer or dock before buying: the included wireless receiver is USB-A, while many newer laptops provide only USB-C.
How it compares with other premium gaming headsets
Tom’s Guide contrasts the Pro X3 with the Razer BlackShark V3 Pro, Razer Barracuda V2 Pro, Alienware Pro, SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 Gen 2 and Fractal Design Scape. The relevant decision is not simply which headset sounds best; it is whether you value the Pro X3’s imaging and range more than longer battery life or additional controls.
| Decision factor | Logitech G Pro X3 Lightspeed | What the comparison establishes |
|---|---|---|
| US price | $249 | Premium pricing; the review compares it with similarly priced models |
| Rated battery | 50 hours | Some comparable headsets offer up to about 70 hours |
| Wireless range | 98 ft (30 m) | Described as impressive in the review |
| Game/chat mixer | Not included | A dedicated dial may be preferable for players who balance voice and game audio frequently |
| Simultaneous multipoint | Not included | Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz must be switched manually |
| Active noise cancellation | Not included | It is not designed to suppress surrounding noise electronically |
| Long-session comfort | Leatherette pads became hot for the reviewer; fabric pads are included | Heat tolerance should be tested before committing to extended sessions |
Logitech’s own G-series lineup includes less expensive designs with different priorities. For example, the company lists the G325 with 24-bit audio, a beamforming microphone, more than 24 hours of battery life, Bluetooth, a 212-gram design and breathable knit fabric with dual-layer memory-foam earcups. Those are official specifications, not independent comparative test results, and the G325 is a different product.
Who should buy the Pro X3 Lightspeed?
It makes sense if you prioritize
- Bright, detailed audio and precise imaging for competitive shooters.
- A configurable 10-band EQ.
- Strong construction and a 98-foot/30-meter wireless range.
- PC, macOS and PlayStation 5 support through several connection options.
Look elsewhere if you need
- Cooler earcups for several-hour sessions in a warm room.
- Battery endurance closer to the roughly 70-hour maximum cited for some rivals.
- Active noise cancellation, simultaneous multipoint or a game/chat balance dial.
- A headset that is comfortable despite ear sensitivity or tinnitus symptoms.
Verdict
The Logitech G Pro X3 Lightspeed is a technically capable $249 headset whose best feature is its competitive-game presentation: detailed treble, convincing imaging, useful EQ control and long wireless reach. Its decisive weakness is physical rather than acoustic. The leatherette pads can trap enough heat to make long sessions painful, and the included fabric pads alter the isolation and feel rather than solving every comfort concern. Add the 50-hour battery and missing mixer, multipoint and ANC, and this is a headset to buy for its sound and range—not one to choose without considering how your ears handle heat.
