You can bring wired 3.5 mm headphones back to a phone that has only USB-C, but not by installing a universal internal socket. The practical fix is an external USB-C audio adapter—preferably one with its own DAC—or a separate portable DAC/amplifier or Bluetooth receiver.
The right choice depends on your phone model, microphone needs, charging habits and tolerance for another device. USB-C alone does not guarantee that every adapter will work.
What “bringing back the jack” actually means
Current support documentation describes external connections, not a broadly compatible retrofit that adds a 3.5 mm socket inside the phone. Android’s USB-C audio specification covers a USB-C-to-analog adapter for devices with 3.5 mm headsets but no headphone port (Android Open Source Project).
That leaves three workable approaches:
- USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter: the smallest and least expensive route for existing wired headphones.
- Portable USB DAC/headphone amplifier: a larger, usually more capable audio device between the phone and headphones.
- Bluetooth receiver with a 3.5 mm output: keeps a cable out of the phone while your headphones plug into the receiver.
The simplest solution: an active USB-C adapter
Buy a USB-C-to-3.5 mm headphone adapter with a built-in DAC (digital-to-analog converter). The DAC converts the phone’s digital USB audio into the analog signal required by ordinary headphones.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
This matters because some phones do not provide analog audio through USB-C. Samsung says certain Galaxy models require an adapter with a built-in DAC (Samsung support). Fairphone likewise states that Fairphone 3 and Fairphone 4 need a DAC-equipped adapter for USB-C audio playback (Fairphone support). A passive adapter can therefore appear physically correct yet produce no sound.
When shopping, use the exact phone model and look for the words “built-in DAC,” “active DAC” or “USB-C to analog audio.” Apple sells a USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter for standard headphones and speakers (Apple), but its existence does not establish universal Android compatibility.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
What the specifications tell you
Rapoo lists its UCA-1002 with a built-in DAC and 16-bit/48 kHz audio (Rapoo). That is a manufacturer specification, not an independent listening test or a guarantee that it supports every phone. Pentaconn describes an active USB-C adapter that combines a DAC and headphone amplifier (Pentaconn Global).

Phone compatibility
Confirm compatibility for your exact model and operating-system family. “USB-C” identifies the connector, not the phone’s audio implementation. Manufacturer support pages and the adapter’s own compatibility list are more useful than a generic marketplace title. Moshi documents why some USB-C Android phones do not work with particular adapters (Moshi Help Center).

Headset microphone and controls
If you make calls or use in-line controls, verify that the adapter supports a four-pole headset microphone and button functions. Some adapters provide playback only. Connect your headset, place a test call and confirm that the phone uses the headset microphone rather than its built-in mic.
Case clearance
A thick case can prevent the USB-C plug from seating fully. UGREEN specifically warns that protective cases may obstruct connector seating for its SKU 80154 (UGREEN India). Check the connector length, not just the cable length.

Charging while listening
Most basic adapters occupy the only USB-C port. A charging-and-audio model can solve that, but passthrough is not universal. Scosche describes its StrikeLine adapter for selected Google Pixel generations; you must check the supported models and current availability (Scosche).

How the options compare
| Option | Phone connection | Existing 3.5 mm headphones | Charge simultaneously | Portability and trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Active USB-C adapter | USB-C; DAC usually required | Usually, if headset-mic support is specified | Only with documented passthrough | Smallest; leaves a short dongle or cable |
| Portable DAC/headphone amp | USB-C (or another digital input) | Yes, through its 3.5 mm output | Usually uses the phone port; model-specific | Better amplification potential, but adds a box, cable and battery or power burden |
| Bluetooth receiver | Bluetooth; phone port remains free | Yes, from the receiver’s 3.5 mm output | Phone can charge normally | No phone-side dongle, but the receiver must be charged |
When a separate DAC or Bluetooth receiver makes more sense
Portable DAC/headphone amplifier
A dedicated unit is useful if your headphones need more amplification or you want physical controls and a sturdier connection than a tiny adapter. Audioengine’s DAC3 is a mobile DAC/headphone amplifier with a 3.5 mm mini-jack output for a phone or other digital source (Audioengine). It is still an additional device to carry, and its usefulness depends on your headphones and phone.

Bluetooth receiver
A receiver lets the phone stay wireless while your familiar wired headphones plug into the receiver. TechRadar’s February 22, 2026 review describes the iFi GO Blu Air with both 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm outputs; it reports that the USB-C port is for charging and does not also function as a wired USB DAC (TechRadar). Treat receiver mode and USB-DAC mode as separate features when checking any model. The cost of this freedom is Bluetooth compression or latency in some use cases, pairing management and another battery-powered accessory.
Setup and troubleshooting
- Confirm your phone model’s USB audio requirements and choose an active DAC adapter if the manufacturer requires one.
- Remove the case temporarily and push the USB-C plug fully into the port.
- Connect the 3.5 mm headset, start playback and select the USB audio output if your phone presents an output selector.
- Test the microphone and in-line buttons with a call or recording.
- If there is no sound, try a second known-working headset, inspect the USB-C port for lint, restart the phone and recheck the adapter’s exact compatibility list.
- If charging fails, use a model that explicitly documents audio-plus-charging support for your phone rather than assuming any splitter will provide passthrough.
The practical verdict
For most people, an active USB-C-to-3.5 mm adapter is the closest replacement for a missing headphone jack: it preserves existing headphones and adds minimal bulk. Choose a portable DAC/amp when amplification and controls matter more than pocket space. Choose a Bluetooth receiver when keeping the phone completely free of a dongle is worth charging and carrying another device. None of these options is an internal, universal headphone-jack retrofit, so compatibility checking is the step that prevents the most frustration.
