Short answer: Steam currently marks I Am Plague’s Steam Deck compatibility as Unknown. The listing’s separate “Partial Controller Support” label is not a Deck rating, so it does not establish Verified, Playable, or reliable performance on every Deck configuration.
The game advertises permanent upgrades and mutation unlocks between runs, but its listing does not document session saves, Steam Cloud, or cross-device synchronization. To enter the playtest, use the Steam listing’s Request access control; the developer says requests are accepted when more participants are needed. A publisher announcement gives October 19, 2026 as the announced playtest end date, so access and timing should be checked on the live listing.
Steam Deck support: what the current listing actually says
As of October 2026, the authoritative status shown on Steam is Steam Deck Compatibility: Unknown. That is the complete compatibility rating currently displayed for the game. It is not a statement that the game fails on Deck, but it is also not evidence that the game has been tested, configured, or approved for a particular Deck experience.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe same page shows Partial Controller Support. That label describes controller input coverage in the Steam listing; it does not convert into a Steam Deck compatibility rating. A game can recognize some controller functions while still having problems with text size, launcher screens, keyboard-only menus, graphics settings, frame pacing, or other Deck-specific details.

What “Unknown” means
Valve describes its compatibility system as a way to show at a glance how games will play on Steam Deck and Steam Machine, with criteria intended to help developers target seamless experiences. In practical terms, an Unknown badge means the store page does not currently provide one of those ratings for this title. It should be treated as missing information, not as a positive or negative test result.
Because the rating can change, check the game’s live Steam page immediately before installing, buying, or planning a trip around Deck play. A later Verified or Playable label would be a new store status; it should not be inferred from the current controller label.
What to check if you receive playtest access
If the test becomes available to your account, use the first session to establish whether your own Deck setup is comfortable rather than assuming the Unknown label has been resolved. Check the title screen, every menu, map or route selection, upgrade screens, text readability, controller prompts, suspend-and-resume behavior, and whether any step requires a keyboard or touchscreen. Also note whether the game remains responsive during automatic combat and busy encounters. These are practical checks for your hardware and configuration, not published performance results.

Does I Am Plague save progress?
The game description clearly advertises permanent progression between runs. Resources collected during an attempt can be spent on persistent horde upgrades, and mutations can be unlocked for later attempts. That is a gameplay system: the decisions and unlocks are intended to carry from one run into the next.
It is not the same as a technical save-file promise. The available official information does not state whether you can save in the middle of a run, whether an interrupted session resumes, whether Steam Cloud is enabled, or whether progress transfers automatically to another computer or Deck.

| Progress question | What is established |
|---|---|
| Do upgrades persist between runs? | Yes, the game advertises resources being used for permanent upgrades. |
| Do mutation unlocks persist? | Yes, mutations are described as unlocks for future runs. |
| Can a run be saved and resumed? | Not stated in the official information available. |
| Is Steam Cloud supported? | Not stated. |
| Will saves sync between devices? | Not stated; do not assume cross-device transfer. |
How to interpret the run loop
I Am Plague is described as an incremental game with automatic combat and roguelite elements. You choose mutations and routes, let the combat system resolve encounters, and use resources from failed runs to improve a future attempt. When the description calls an upgrade “permanent,” it means permanent within that progression structure, not necessarily that every moment of a run is written to disk.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
For example, reaching a new route and spending earned resources may update your long-term progression. That does not tell you what happens if the application closes before the next checkpoint, if you move the installation to another device, or if a test build is replaced. Those behaviors require explicit save or cloud documentation.
How to avoid making an unsafe assumption
Until the developer or Steam page documents save behavior, treat an active run as potentially non-resumable. Before closing the game, look for an in-game save, quit, checkpoint, or autosave indicator. In Steam, inspect the game’s properties and library page for a Steam Cloud notice, but remember that seeing a cloud setting would still not explain exactly which data is synchronized or when it is uploaded.
Rank #4
- A game of dark fun where players who are dead right win!
- Can be played as a standalone game or used as extra questions for the large format board game version
- A funny, highly entertaining family trivia game with easy to play rules
- Work out whether the implausible, and sometimes rather amusing, demise is true or false
- For 2-6 players or teams aged 12 years and over
Do not promise readers that reinstalling, switching to a Deck, or signing in on another PC will preserve their current state. If the game later adds cloud support or publishes a save policy, that information should replace this qualification.
How to join the I Am Plague playtest
The Steam listing provides the official access path. It tells players to select Request access and says they will be notified when the developer is ready for more participants. A request is therefore an expression of interest, not confirmation that every account receives immediate entry.
- Open the current I Am Plague page in the Steam store while signed in to the account you intend to use for testing.
- Find the playtest panel and select Request access.
- Submit the request and watch the Steam account and email associated with it for an invitation or status change.
- If access is granted, install the test build from the Steam library and check its displayed branch, build information, and any developer instructions before reporting a problem.
- If no invitation arrives, do not interpret that as a technical error. The listing says notification depends on the developer being ready for more participants.
The announced end date
Digital Vortex Entertainment announced that the playtest would run through October 19, 2026. That date is time-sensitive: a publisher announcement can be extended, shortened, or superseded, and Steam can change the access panel independently. Since the date is close to the current October 2026 publication period, check the live store page for the present status instead of relying on an old announcement.

If the listing no longer shows a request option, reports that the test is full, or displays a different schedule, use the live Steam information as the current access authority. Conversely, seeing a request button does not guarantee that a new request will be accepted before the announced closing date.
What playtest participation does and does not tell you
Access to a test build can reveal how that build behaves on your hardware, but it does not establish the specifications or feature set of the finished game. Test content, save handling, balance, controller mappings, and performance can change before release. Share feedback through the channel supplied with the build, especially when a problem can be reproduced with a route, mutation, menu, or device configuration.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What kind of game is I Am Plague?
Steam describes the title as an incremental game combining automatic combat with roguelite elements. The central structure is a series of attempts: select mutations and routes, fight through encounters automatically, collect resources, and spend the results on upgrades that remain available for later attempts.
Planned scale
The Steam description lists 200+ dungeon floors and 50+ mutations for the planned full game. Those are advertised full-release targets, not verified counts for the current playtest. A test build may include only a subset, use temporary balance values, or omit systems that are planned for the 2027 release.
Planned release and current availability
Steam lists 2027 as the planned full-game release. The listing captured for this FAQ does not present the game as available for purchase, so playtest access should not be confused with buying the finished product. A planned year is a target, not a guaranteed launch date; consult the store page for any updated timing.
Quick decisions for prospective players
- Want to play on Steam Deck now? Wait for a current Steam Deck rating or test the playtest yourself; Unknown plus Partial Controller Support is not a compatibility guarantee.
- Need guaranteed mid-run recovery or cloud transfer? The available listing does not document either feature, so do not depend on them.
- Want to try the game before release? Request access through Steam and monitor for a developer invitation.
- Planning around the playtest? Use October 19, 2026 only as the publisher’s announced end date and verify the live listing for changes.
- Evaluating the finished game? Treat the 200-plus floors, 50-plus mutations, and 2027 release as planned full-game information rather than guaranteed playtest content.
Questions the Steam listing cannot answer yet
Several practical details remain undocumented in the official material available for this FAQ: whether there is an in-run save command, how often autosaves occur, whether Steam Cloud is enabled, what happens after a crash, whether a save can move between Windows and Steam Deck, and what Deck performance targets the developer considers acceptable. These are specific questions for a future developer announcement or an updated store page. Until then, the precise claims above are the safe boundaries for deciding whether to request access or rely on the game for portable play.
