The Khazalite Holds are a new duardin faction unveiled by Games Workshop on 18 September 2026. They are not simply a replacement for Fyreslayers: the new battletome folds the existing Fyreslayer range into a broader army structure, adds new Khazalite and Kromdron units, and creates rules for mixed duardin forces. That makes the launch exciting for collectors, but it also raises a legitimate question about whether Age of Sigmar is moving toward larger umbrella factions.
For current Fyreslayer players, the immediate answer is reassuring but qualified. Games Workshop says existing miniatures remain usable, either as a complete Fyreslayer army or alongside Kromdron units. Several older units, however, are entering Warhammer Legends after a 12-month competitive transition.
What the Khazalite Holds launch includes
The Khazalite Holds Army Set contains miniatures and a battletome, is led by Hjulda Drakkblud, and forms a complete Spearhead army in one box. Games Workshop describes it as the beginning of a wider collection, with additional Khazalite kits to follow. The faction’s initial visual identity is deliberately traditional: heavily armoured duardin built around ancestral memory, hammers and siege power. Games Workshop’s reveal calls them warriors with “tough armour, deadly hammers, and a cannon big enough to blow a hole through a Mega-Gargant.”

The Clanshields kit contains 10 miniatures. Interchangeable shields and heads allow variation, while weapon choices include hammers or axes and the unit has command options. Games Workshop gives the unit a 3+ save and says it gains +1 to wound while it has grudge marks. That combination signals a durable front-line unit whose performance improves as the army’s grudge system develops.

How the Khazalite rules turn setbacks into resources
Grudge marks are the faction’s defining battle trait. The published rules award marks in several situations rather than only for dealing damage:

| An enemy takes an objective in your territory through “Reclaim the Karaks” | The incursion adds a mark. |
| The army Retreats | One mark is removed. |
The result is a clear intended play pattern: absorb pressure, contest important ground, remember losses and convert those setbacks into stronger attacks. That is an interpretation of the published rules, not a claim about tournament performance.
Ancestral Vows add a second layer
Ancestor worship is the other major rules pillar. The faction can invoke five once-per-battle Ancestral Vows. Games Workshop gives “We Honour Valaya!” as an example, with effects involving healing and damage. Because each vow is limited to once per battle, players must decide when a moment is important enough to call on an ancestor rather than spending the ability early.

What happens to an existing Fyreslayer army?
The biggest practical change is consolidation into the Khazalite Holds battletome. Games Workshop says existing Fyreslayer miniatures can be used in a full Fyreslayer army or included alongside the new Kromdron units. The announcement therefore describes continuity of use, not an instruction to replace an entire collection.
Units moving to Warhammer Legends
Some Fyreslayer warscrolls are being retired from the main matched-play roster. Games Workshop lists the following units as moving to Warhammer Legends:
- Vulkite Berzerkers
- Auric Runemaster
- Battlesmith
- Doomseeker
- Grimwrath Berzerker
- Magmic Battleforge
- Magmic Invocations
Those units remain usable in competitive events for 12 months after the new battletome releases. After that transition period, they move to Legends status. The announcement does not establish the battletome’s release date, so the 12-month window cannot be converted into a calendar deadline yet.

The Fyreslayer range that remains supported
The retained roster includes Magmadroth-mounted heroes, Runefathers, Runesons, Runesmiters, Auric Flamekeepers, Grimhold Exiles, Vulkyn Flameseekers, Auric Hearthguard, Hearthguard Berzerkers, plus the new Ormyr and Ashtongue. Owners of these models have a published route into the new battletome rather than an immediate Legends-only future.

The battletome includes three Armies of Renown, each connecting different parts of the duardin range:

These are official rules links between collections. They give a Fyreslayer owner reasons to add Khazalite kits without abandoning existing models, and they give Kharadron collectors a way to participate in the new release. The previews do not establish whether any of these combinations will be competitive at tournaments.

The setting behind the Khazalite Holds
Khazalite holds, known as karaks, are mountain settlements carved into solid rock. Games Workshop says many have been ruined by centuries of conflict and infiltration by malign forces. The upper halls contain garrisons and communal spaces; deeper levels house armouries, forges, farms and halls of remembrance.
The culture is built around craft, sound and memory. Khazalites believe they can hear the vibrational wisdom of stone, and they regard forgetting as the worst fate that can befall a duardin. The grudge marks and Ancestral Vows therefore express the setting as well as the battlefield mechanics: losses are recorded, ancestors are consulted and the hold’s history actively shapes its response.
Does this mean more Age of Sigmar factions will merge?
One consolidation is documented: Fyreslayers are being brought into the Khazalite Holds battletome, while new Khazalite units and mixed-duardin rules are added. From that example, it is reasonable to infer that Games Workshop may be willing to refresh older ranges through larger umbrella factions that support several related themes and collections.

That inference is not a published roadmap. Games Workshop’s September 2025 statement on the future of Age of Sigmar said, “The future of the game is bright – and there’s more to come for every existing faction, plus one or two bigger developments on the way.” The statement supports continued investment across the game, but it does not promise that every faction will keep an unchanged range or a permanently separate battletome.
The questions that will define future consolidations
- Range continuity: how many existing models remain usable in the main game?
- Cross-faction support: are mixed armies given meaningful, official rules rather than informal permission?
- Release scale: does consolidation deliver new kits quickly enough to feel like growth?
- Identity: can a faction retain its distinctive lore and play style inside a larger book?
The Khazalite release answers those questions only for this duardin case. It provides continuity for much of the Fyreslayer range, explicit mixed-army options and a strong new identity, while also moving a named group of older units to Legends.
What players can conclude now—and what remains unknown
For someone starting from scratch, the Army Set is positioned as a complete Spearhead force and the entry point to the wider Khazalite collection. For a Fyreslayer owner, buying the box is not presented as mandatory: existing models have a stated path into the new battletome, although Legends timing matters for the seven listed units. For a duardin collector, the three Armies of Renown make the release unusually interconnected with Fyreslayers and Kharadron Overlords.

No published sales forecast, player-count estimate, tournament result or confirmed future faction roadmap establishes the army’s commercial success, competitive tier or whether another faction will be merged. Those outcomes remain unresolved. What is clear is that Games Workshop has used the Khazalite Holds to expand the duardin range while reorganising part of an existing faction, making this a significant structural test for Age of Sigmar rather than just another wave of miniatures.
