Voidheart and Essence of the Void are different materials in Hytale. Voidheart is the rarer Epic progression item associated with hunts beyond Goblin Breaches, while Essence of the Void is an Uncommon ingredient used across many recipes. Update 7 changed where ordinary Void creatures appear and adjusted their drops: nighttime Void spawns were removed from the Echo of Orbis, most Void enemies now tend to yield more Essence, and Voidhearts appear less often. A route that fills your inventory with Essence can therefore produce very few Hearts.
Voidheart vs. Essence of the Void
Both items are Void-aligned ingredients, but they serve different purposes and should not be exchanged mentally or mechanically. The Hytale Guide Wiki identifies Voidheart as an Epic item with the identifier Ingredient_Voidheart. Its item description is: “The still-beating heart of a greater denizen of the Void.”
Essence of the Void is listed as an Uncommon item under Ingredient_Void_Essence. Its description reads: “It’s unclear whether creatures of the Void produce this essence, or if its presence is required to sustain their existence.”

The practical consequence is simple: farm the enemies and activities that are currently available for progression, then sort the results by material. Do not use Essence totals as a proxy for your Voidheart luck.

How to get Voidhearts after Update 7
1. Follow Chapter I and Goblin Breach progression
The official Chapter I material identifies hunts on the far side of a Goblin Breach as requiring a Voidheart. Hunt sites are marked with an icon on the world map, making them the clearest current progression target when you are looking for a Heart rather than general Void loot.
- Advance through the current Chapter I progression until Goblin Breach hunts are available.
- Open the world map and look for the hunt-site icon associated with the breach-side activity.
- Prepare for the encounter, cross or otherwise engage with the breach-side hunt as the game requires, and collect enemy drops.
- Check the item names in your inventory after each run. A Voidheart and Essence of the Void are separate entries, so one cannot be substituted for the other.
The evidence establishes the hunt’s Voidheart requirement and map marker, but it does not publish a guaranteed Heart reward for every hunt. Treat the activity as the relevant progression route, not as a promise of one Heart per completion.

Older guides commonly recommend visiting the Echo of Orbis at night to find ordinary Void creatures. Update 7 removed those ordinary nighttime appearances from that area. If a route depends on waiting for night in the Echo of Orbis, it is outdated for the current update.
3. Expect a lower Heart rate
Update 7’s official pre-release notes say Voidhearts are now dropped less frequently by Void enemies. No official percentage drop rate is given. Any guide that presents a precise universal percentage without identifying an official source, enemy, difficulty, or version is overstating what is known.
Where Void creatures spawn now
Update 7 changed encounter geography rather than merely changing a timer. Ordinary Void creatures no longer appear in the Echo of Orbis at night. That means the location-and-time rule from pre-Update-7 guides should not be used to plan a current farm.
For a current route, prioritize Void encounters connected to the active Chapter I and Goblin Breach progression. The official material specifically points to hunts beyond a Goblin Breach and gives those sites a map icon. Because the available notes do not provide a complete biome-by-biome spawn table, it would be inaccurate to claim that every Void enemy now has one fixed replacement location.

Use the map icon, not an old timetable
- Check the current world map for marked hunt sites.
- Confirm that the activity is part of your present Chapter I progression.
- Do not wait for nighttime in the Echo of Orbis expecting the old ordinary spawns.
- Record which encounter types actually produce Hearts in your own current world, while treating the result as version- and enemy-dependent rather than a published rate.
Why you are getting Essence but no Voidheart
This result is expected under Update 7. The patch changed the two materials in opposite directions: most Void enemies typically provide more Essence of the Void, while Voidhearts became less frequent. The game therefore can reward a productive Essence run without giving you a Heart.
Larvae are a specific exception. Update 7 notes state that Larvae drop nothing, so they should not be selected as an Essence or Voidheart farming target.
Common mistaken assumptions
- “Essence means a Heart is about to drop.” No; the materials have separate drop behavior.
- “A large Essence stack proves the route is good for Hearts.” No; the patch increased typical Essence yields while reducing Heart frequency.
- “Night in the Echo of Orbis will eventually fix the problem.” No; ordinary nighttime Void appearances were removed there.
- “There must be a published 5%, 10%, or 20% rate.” No authoritative percentage is included in the official notes covered here.
What Voidheart is used for
Goblin Breach hunts
Voidheart has a direct progression use: the official Chapter I article says hunts on the far side of a Goblin Breach require one. Hunt sites carry a map icon, so this is the first use to check when deciding whether to spend or save a Heart.
Advanced crafting
The Hytale Guide Wiki lists Voidheart in advanced recipes, including Backpack Upgrade II and Mithril weapons. Those recipe entries are community-database data and can change during Early Access. Before committing a Heart, open the live recipe in your current client and verify both the recipe name and quantity.

Because the Heart is less frequent after Update 7, avoid spending your entire stock on a recipe until you have checked whether an upcoming breach-side hunt also needs one. The correct order is to inspect your active progression requirements, then compare them with the current crafting station’s recipe.
What Essence of the Void is used for
Essence of the Void is the broader crafting ingredient. The community database lists 17 recipes using it, including Mithril armor pieces. The count and individual recipes are version-sensitive, so use that list for planning and confirm the current in-game recipe before crafting.

How to plan Essence farming
- Open the recipe or item you intend to make in the current client.
- Note the exact Essence requirement and any other materials.
- Target eligible Void enemies rather than Larvae, which drop nothing according to Update 7 notes.
- Expect better Essence availability than before the update, but do not infer a corresponding increase in Voidhearts.
- Recheck recipes after a game update because Early Access databases can lag behind the live client.
Farming routes compared
The available evidence supports a decision framework rather than a guaranteed drop table. Choose a route according to the material and progression objective you have now.

A practical checklist before each run
- Confirm that your game is running the Update 7-era rules rather than relying on a pre-update guide.
- Check the world map for a marked hunt site connected to Goblin Breach progression.
- Decide whether your immediate goal is a breach hunt, a Voidheart recipe, or an Essence recipe.
- Bring enough inventory space to keep the two materials separate.
- Exclude Larvae if your objective is either material.
- After the run, record Hearts and Essence separately; a high Essence count does not validate a Heart-farming rate.
- Verify every recipe in the current client before spending a scarce Heart or a large Essence stockpile.
Recipe and version caveats
Hytale is in Early Access, so community recipe databases are useful planning references rather than permanent specifications. The database currently labels Voidheart as Epic and Essence of the Void as Uncommon, lists Ingredient_Voidheart and Ingredient_Void_Essence, and reports 17 Essence recipes. Those facts describe the cited database state accessed in 2026; the live client remains the authority for your world and update.
The same caution applies to weapon, armor, and backpack recipes. A listed Mithril weapon, Mithril armor piece, or Backpack Upgrade II requirement may be revised, removed, or rebalanced. Check the crafting interface immediately before using materials.
Frequently encountered problems
“The hunt marker is missing.”
Verify that the relevant Chapter I and Goblin Breach progression has been reached. The official description associates the icon with hunt sites; it does not say that every player sees every marker from the beginning.
“I searched the Echo of Orbis at night and found nothing.”
That is consistent with Update 7. Ordinary Void creatures no longer appear there at night, so move to the current progression-linked encounters instead of extending the wait.
“I have Essence, but the recipe still will not craft.”
Check whether the recipe requires Voidheart or another ingredient as well. Essence and Voidheart are not interchangeable, and the recipe shown in your client may differ from an older community listing.
“I need a precise Voidheart percentage.”
No authoritative percentage is published in the official notes covered here. Use repeated current encounters to make your own planning estimate, but label it as personal observation and keep it tied to the enemy and version tested.
