Playing with friends? Godlike.Host runs hosted Hytale servers from 10 data-center locations, with free DDoS protection.
A Hytale dedicated server does not have a published “RAM per player” formula or a required CPU model. Hypixel Studios’ current server manual defines a minimum platform—4 GB of memory, Java 25, and x64 or arm64 support—then directs operators to measure CPU and RAM under their own player behavior. Treat that minimum as a starting floor, not a promise that every world or group will run comfortably on it.
The practical decision is therefore two-stage: verify that the machine and operating system can run the official server software, then observe the workload created by your players, view distance, loaded world area, NPCs and mobs. That approach applies whether the machine is at home, a rented virtual server or a managed game host.

Official Hytale dedicated-server requirements
The current Hytale Server Manual, updated October 12, 2026, establishes the following baseline. It is the authoritative starting point for a dedicated installation.
| Resource or condition | Documented requirement or driver | What it means when planning |
|---|---|---|
| Memory | At least 4 GB on the server device | This is an official minimum floor, not a recommended allocation for a particular player count. |
| Java runtime | Java 25 | Install and select the required runtime before starting the server. |
| CPU workload | Player count and entity count, including NPCs and mobs | Busy populations and entity-heavy areas can increase processor demand; the manual does not specify a CPU model or core count. |
| RAM workload | Loaded world area, view distance and players exploring independently | Worlds that keep more terrain active or send players in different directions can consume more memory. |
| Supported architecture | x64 and arm64 | Confirm that the host’s architecture is supported before choosing an image or machine type. |
| Network transport | QUIC is used exclusively for client-server communication | Firewall and hosting controls must allow the server’s configured QUIC traffic; use the manual’s port instructions for the actual configuration. |
The manual does not publish a guaranteed player capacity, a minimum number of cores, a clock-speed target or a fixed amount of RAM for each additional player. Any such number presented as an official Hytale rule would go beyond the documentation.

Why a 4 GB minimum is not a universal recommendation
A minimum tells you the smallest documented memory footprint for launching and operating the dedicated software under suitable conditions. It does not describe the headroom needed for a particular map, simulation distance, mod set, entity population or exploration pattern. A server can meet the floor and still encounter memory pressure when its workload grows.
Hytale’s own guidance is to monitor the process while it is in use. Record memory and processor behavior during the way your group actually plays rather than relying on a generic “per-player” calculation. A quiet test with everyone near one base is not representative of a session in which players split up and load distant regions.
CPU planning: what actually drives processor use
Players are one factor, not the whole specification
More connected players generally mean more simulation and networking work, but the official driver list also calls out entities. NPCs and mobs add behavior that must be processed, so an entity-dense town can be harder on the CPU than a similarly sized group in a quiet area.
There is no official model or core-count target
The current manual intentionally describes workload drivers instead of naming a processor. Do not translate the requirements into an invented statement such as “four cores are required” or “a specific generation of desktop CPU is enough.” When comparing machines, prioritize measured processor performance under the expected player and entity load, and leave capacity for the operating system and other services.

How to evaluate a CPU in practice
- Choose a host whose architecture is x64 or arm64 and whose operating system can run Java 25.
- Run the intended world with the same view-distance settings and typical entity population you expect in production.
- Invite the largest group you expect, then repeat the test while players move independently rather than remaining in one area.
- Watch CPU utilization and responsiveness during movement, combat, construction and area loading. Note the busiest periods instead of relying on an idle reading.
- If the processor is consistently saturated or the simulation becomes erratic, move to a faster host before adding more players or entities.
RAM planning: world state matters as much as player count
Loaded area and view distance
RAM use rises with the amount of world data kept active. A higher view distance can keep more terrain in memory, while players spread across the map can cause several distant areas to remain loaded at once. These effects are why two groups with the same number of players can require different allocations.
Measure the Java process, not just total host memory
Leave memory for the operating system and any monitoring, backup or administration services. Then observe the server process during normal play. Configure Java’s maximum heap deliberately, and check whether the process approaches that limit during exploration-heavy sessions. A host showing free memory overall can still have a server heap that is too small; conversely, assigning all physical memory to Java can starve the operating system.

A repeatable sizing loop
- Start at the documented minimum only for a controlled trial or very light workload.
- Load the real world and use the view-distance setting you intend to keep.
- Run a session with players in their normal locations, including at least one test where they travel in separate directions.
- Log peak and sustained RAM use, along with CPU use, during the busiest part of the session.
- Increase the allocation or choose a larger machine if memory approaches its limit, the process is reclaimed, or the host begins swapping.
- Repeat after major world changes or Hytale updates, because content and server behavior can change over time.
Do not confuse client PC requirements with server requirements
Hytale’s separate hardware requirements post, published December 1, 2025, describes the computer running the game client. It lists 8 GB of memory for a multiplayer-only minimum configuration and 16 GB in its recommended client tier. Those figures are not dedicated-server allocations.
In singleplayer, one computer runs both the client and the server simulation, so the client article discusses a combined local workload. A dedicated server has no rendered game client attached to it. Use the server manual’s 4 GB floor and workload-monitoring advice when sizing the server process; use the hardware post only when checking a player’s gaming PC.

Self-hosting, a VPS and managed hosting
Self-hosting on a home or office machine
Self-hosting gives you direct control over the Java installation, files, backups, updates and hardware. It suits an operator who can maintain the machine, authenticate the server, configure the firewall and keep the system available. You must also provide a reliable network path and protect the host like any other Internet-facing service.
Running the server on a VPS
A VPS can be suitable if its virtual machine provides at least the documented memory floor, supports x64 or arm64, offers Java 25, and permits the QUIC traffic Hytale uses. Check whether the provider exposes the required UDP/network controls and whether CPU performance is shared or constrained; a nominal vCPU count alone does not establish real capacity.

Then run the same workload test you would use on a physical machine.
Managed game-server hosting
A managed service can reduce the work of patching the operating system, keeping the server online and handling routine administration. In exchange, you may have less control over Java flags, network rules, file layout and upgrade timing. Ask the provider whether Java 25 is available, how much memory is dedicated to the Hytale process, what CPU limits apply, and how you retrieve backups and logs.

Hosting comparison checklist
Use these questions when comparing a home machine, VPS plans or managed options:
- How much memory is available to the Hytale process after the host’s own services are accounted for?
- What processor performance is available when the expected player and NPC/mob load is active?
- Can you install or select Java 25 on a supported x64 or arm64 system?
- Can you configure the firewall and network policy for Hytale’s QUIC traffic and the port defined by the server setup?
- Who performs updates, and can you control the timing after a new server release?
- Can you create, download and restore backups of the world and configuration?
- Do you receive process metrics and logs so that you can investigate CPU or RAM pressure?
- How much administration are you prepared to perform yourself?
Operational setup sequence
The server manual covers downloading, authentication and updates. A safe installation follows this order:
- Verify the host. Confirm x64 or arm64 architecture, available memory, operating-system support and sufficient storage for the server files and backups.
- Install Java 25. Check that the server process resolves to Java 25 rather than an older runtime supplied by the operating system.
- Obtain the official server files. Use the downloader and file layout documented in the official manual instead of an unofficial package.
- Complete authentication. Follow the manual’s authentication procedure and keep credentials out of public configuration files and chat logs.
- Configure network access. Permit the server’s configured QUIC traffic through the host firewall and any VPS or router security group. The exact port and configuration belong to the manual’s current instructions.
- Start a controlled test. Connect with a small group, confirm world loading and record CPU and RAM behavior.
- Exercise the real workload. Test high entity areas and independent exploration before advertising the server as ready for a larger community.
- Set an update and backup routine. The manual documents its update workflow; schedule maintenance, keep recoverable world copies and retest after updates.
Common failure symptoms and corrective actions
The server will not start
Check the Java version first, then confirm the host architecture and available memory. A machine that falls below the documented floor or uses an unsupported runtime is not a valid baseline for troubleshooting world behavior.

Players experience slow simulation during busy scenes
Inspect CPU utilization while NPCs, mobs and players are active. If processor use is the limiting resource, reduce the active entity workload where your game design allows it or move to a host with stronger CPU performance. Adding RAM will not fix a CPU-bound server.
Memory usage climbs during exploration
Compare sessions in which players stay together with sessions in which they travel separately. Check view distance and the amount of world area being kept active, then increase the Java heap or host memory only after leaving adequate room for the operating system.
Clients cannot connect
Verify that the server is running, authentication completed and the configured QUIC traffic is permitted by every firewall, router and VPS security group in the path. Recheck the current manual after updates because network settings and operational steps can change.
When to revisit your allocation
Re-evaluate after adding players, increasing view distance, introducing more NPCs or mobs, opening new regions for exploration, or installing a Hytale update. Keep a short record of peak CPU and RAM readings for representative sessions. That history is more useful than a one-time idle measurement and lets you distinguish a temporary spike from a host that is consistently undersized.
Because the official documentation supplies qualitative workload drivers rather than a capacity chart, the most defensible sizing statement is conditional: meet the platform minimum, test the intended playstyle, monitor the process and add headroom when the observed workload requires it.
