Prefer not to run the server on your own PC? Godlike.Host offers hosted Hytale servers with free DDoS protection and up to three free backups a day.
Hytale server commands are entered in chat with a leading slash or in the server console. For the current documentation context (Release 0.7.2), start with /help: it shows the commands, subcommands, and arguments your running build actually exposes. Most administration commands require operator or administrator permissions, while the console may run with full permissions. This guide maps the commands administrators use most, explains their risks and scope, and gives a safe method for checking syntax when Hytale updates change it.
What to know before using any Hytale command
Hytale is still in active release development. Hypixel Studios’ server documentation is currently labeled Release 0.7.2, but a command documented for that release can move, gain a different argument, or disappear in another build. A searchable Hytale.game index updated on 19 January 2026 reports 159 command results across modules such as Hytale Server, Builder Tools, Command Macro, Universe, Teleport, Permissions, NPC, Inventory, Spawn, and Spawning. Treat that index as a discovery aid, not as a guarantee that every entry works on your server.
The reliable workflow is local verification: type /help in chat or the console, then request the family you need, such as /help tp, /help inventory, or /help server. Read the arguments displayed by your server before pasting an example from an older guide.
- In-game: press Enter, type a slash command, and submit it in chat.
- Console: enter the command in the server console. HypeServ’s guidance says the console has full permissions, so protect console access as carefully as an administrator account.
- Permission: most commands that affect another player, the world, or the server require operator or administrator rights.
- Risk: backup, shutdown, ban, inventory, and damage commands can have immediate consequences. Confirm the target and arguments before execution.
How to become an administrator
Give yourself access
- Open the in-game command input with Enter, or use the server console.
- Run
/op self. This command is documented for granting or removing your own administrator permissions; check the response and your current permission state before continuing. - Run
/helpagain. Commands that were hidden by permissions should now appear if your account has the required role.
Give another player operator access
Use /op add <player> to add a player to the administrator list. To revoke that access, run /op remove <player>. Use the exact player name accepted by your server and avoid granting operator status as a troubleshooting shortcut; it gives access to commands that can change inventories, permissions, worlds, and server state.

Manage granular permissions
The /perm family opens permission management. Because permission nodes and subcommands can change between builds, begin with /help perm and follow the syntax shown there. Use narrowly scoped permissions for moderators whenever possible instead of making every staff member an operator.
How to verify a command on your live server
Use this procedure whenever a command comes from a video, a forum post, or an older version of Hytale:
Recommended Free Tools
- Run
/helpto confirm that the command family exists. - Run
/help <family>, replacing<family>with a name such asgive,tp,warp, orserver. - Copy the argument order, capitalization, option prefix, and required values exactly as displayed. Hytale examples use forms such as
--quantity=100and--amount=<number>; do not substitute a space if the help text requires an equals sign. - Test a non-destructive form first. For example, inspect help before trying a teleport, inventory edit, or server command.
- If chat rejects the command, try the console only if you have authorized access. A console result confirms whether the issue is a permission problem or unsupported syntax.
- Record the working syntax with the server build date. This gives moderators a dependable runbook when a later update changes the command.
Command map: scope, permissions, and risk
| Family or command | Typical scope | Common surface | Permission expectation | Operational risk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
/help |
Current server command list | Chat or console | Usually available, with visibility affected by permissions | Read-only |
/op, /perm |
Accounts and roles | Chat or console | Operator/administrator | High: changes who can control the server |
/kick, /ban, /unban |
One player or ban records | Chat or console | Moderator or administrator, depending on configuration | Disruptive; bans require deliberate review |
/whitelist |
Server access policy | Chat or console | Administrator | High: can lock out legitimate players |
/give, /inventory |
One player’s items | Chat or console | Administrator or creative/testing role | High: economy and progression impact |
/tp, /warp, /spawn |
Player position or saved locations | Chat or console | Permission-dependent | Usually reversible, but can strand or expose players |
/gamemode, time utilities |
Player or world state | Chat or console | Administrator/creative role | Can alter gameplay or building conditions |
/backup, /stop, /server |
Whole server process or universe | Especially console | Administrator | High: backup, shutdown, and diagnostics affect everyone |
Moderation and access-control commands
Remove or restrict a player
/kick <player> disconnects a player without creating a ban. Use it for an immediate removal when the player may be allowed to return. /ban <player> blocks a player according to the server’s ban system. To reverse that decision, run /unban <player>. Confirm the exact name and explain the action in your moderation log; a mistyped target can affect the wrong account.
Control a private or maintenance server with the whitelist
The /whitelist family controls who may connect:
/whitelist listshows the current entries./whitelist enableturns restricted access on./whitelist disableturns it off./whitelist add <player>adds an account./whitelist remove <player>removes an account.
Check the list before enabling the whitelist during maintenance. Enabling it first and adding staff afterward can lock out the people who need to repair the server.
Plugin and delegated-command tools
HytaleNet documents /plugin for installed-plugin management and /sudo for running a command as another player. Both are powerful: a plugin action can change server behavior, and delegated execution can bypass the context you thought you were testing. Use /help plugin and /help sudo first, restrict access to trusted administrators, and audit every use.
Player, testing, and quality-of-life commands
Health, stamina, and character state
/healrestores health and stamina according to the current command implementation./fillsignaturefills signature energy, which is useful for testing abilities or content that consumes it./kill <player>kills the named player. Treat it as a destructive test command, not a routine moderation action./neardeathapplies the near-death state used for testing or controlled scenarios./damage <player> --amount=<number>applies a specified amount of damage.
These commands may be unavailable to ordinary players. Run the family help page to confirm whether your build expects a target argument, an option, or a different spelling.

Inspect or reset inventories
/inventory backpack --size=<number>changes a backpack’s size. Verify the accepted range locally before choosing a value./inventory clearclears inventory contents and can permanently remove items./inventory see <player>lets an authorized administrator inspect another player’s inventory.
Use inventory commands only with a documented reason. Before clearing or resizing, ask the player to move valuable items to a safe location and capture the original state if your server’s procedures allow it.
Memories
/memories unlockall unlocks all memories for testing, while /memories clear removes them. These commands can invalidate progression, so reserve them for development or clearly announced administrative work.
Giving items and building resources
/give grants an item to a player. Item identifiers are tied to the game’s content and can change between builds; the examples below illustrate the documented form, not a complete catalog:
/give Tool_Pickaxe_Cobalt/give Tool_Hatchet_Cobalt/give Bench_Alchemy/give Bench_Arcane/give Bench_Memories/give Ingredient_Bar_Iron --quantity=100
Confirm an identifier through the current command suggestions or reference for your build. A valid command name with an obsolete item ID can fail even when the syntax is correct. Quantity options can also be constrained by the current implementation. Use a small test quantity first, then verify the recipient’s inventory before issuing a large stack.
For public survival servers, record staff-issued items and distinguish creative testing from compensation. Unlogged grants can undermine the economy and make later disputes impossible to resolve.
Teleportation, warps, and world state
Move players safely
/tp handles teleportation to a player or coordinates. The exact argument forms are build-sensitive, so inspect /help tp before using coordinate syntax. /tp home returns a player to the configured home destination when that feature is available, and /spawn moves a player to the server spawn.

Plug-and-play design requires no extra setup, adapting to gaming, live streaming, office work, online learning, and home entertainment scenarios.
Before teleporting someone into an event area, check that the destination is safe and that the player has agreed to the move. Coordinate mistakes can place a player inside hazards or outside a playable region.
Save and use named warps
/warp set <name>saves the current location under a name./warp go <name>travels to a saved warp./warp listdisplays available warps.
Use descriptive, stable names and document who owns each warp. If a build changes the warp syntax, the server’s /help warp output takes precedence over these examples.
Change game mode and time
/gamemode changes a player’s mode; available modes and required arguments depend on the current release. PC Gamer also documents /noon and related time/world utilities. Use /help gamemode and the relevant time-family help before changing a live world, especially during an event where daylight or mode affects fairness.
Backups, shutdown, and diagnostics
Create a backup before risky work
/backup creates a universe backup. Run it before permission changes, plugin changes, bulk inventory work, or world edits. Confirm the server reports completion and know where your deployment stores the backup; a command acknowledgment is not the same as a tested restore.
Stop the server cleanly
/stop performs a controlled shutdown. Announce the interruption, wait for players to log out when possible, and use the command rather than terminating the process abruptly. A clean stop gives the server a chance to save state.
Collect state and resource information
/server dumpwrites a server-state text dump useful for troubleshooting./server gcforces memory cleanup; use it as a diagnostic or maintenance action, not as a substitute for finding a leak./server stats CPU,/server stats memory, and/server stats GPUrequest host statistics for the selected component.
Run diagnostics from the console during a quiet period when possible. Save the output with the server version, timestamp, and symptoms so repeated incidents can be compared.

If you operate a larger community, a managed Hytale host can simplify console access, scheduled backups, and restart policies. Verify that the provider supports your Hytale release and gives you direct access to the official server files and logs; hosting features do not replace the need to validate commands with /help.
Common failures and how to recover
“Unknown command” or missing subcommand
Run /help and then /help <family>. The command may have been renamed, removed, moved into a module, or never shipped in your build. Do not repeatedly paste syntax from an older guide.
Permission denied
Check whether you are an operator with /op or ask an existing administrator to inspect /perm. Try the same command in the authorized console only when you are responsible for that server. If it works in the console but not chat, the issue is the player’s permission context rather than the command itself.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesArgument or option errors
Compare the help output character by character. Pay attention to angle-bracket placeholders, capitalization, and option forms such as --quantity=100. Replace placeholders with real values and remove the angle brackets when executing; for example, use /damage Alex --amount=5, not the literal text <player>.
The command runs but produces an unexpected result
Check the target, current dimension or world, and whether another plugin or permission rule changed the behavior. For destructive actions, stop making further changes, create a backup if the server is still stable, and review the server log before attempting a correction.
A command worked yesterday but not after an update
Re-run the relevant help page and note the new release number. Hytale’s command surface is not static; update staff documentation whenever syntax changes and test administrative macros on a non-public server first.
A practical administrator checklist
- Confirm the server build and record the date.
- Run
/helpand verify the family you intend to use. - Check your permission level before testing on another player or the world.
- For inventory, memory, permission, plugin, or world changes, create a backup with
/backupfirst. - Use the smallest target and quantity that can prove the command works.
- Announce disruptive actions such as kicks, whitelist changes, restarts, or mode changes.
- Log the command, operator, target, reason, and result.
- Use
/stopfor planned shutdowns and retain diagnostic output from/server dumpor/server statswhen investigating a fault.

What to remember
/help is the authoritative starting point for the command set on your running build. Operator or administrator permissions are required for most management actions, and the console may have full permissions. The core workflow is /op and /perm for access, /kick, /ban, and /whitelist for moderation, /tp, /gamemode, /heal, /give, and /inventory for player and testing tasks, and /backup, /stop, and /server for lifecycle control. Verify every argument locally, back up before risky changes, and date your staff documentation because Hytale’s command syntax can change with new releases.
