Hytale armor consists of four wearable pieces—helm, cuirass, gauntlets and greaves—with shields made separately. You craft every piece at the Armorer’s Workbench and progress through Copper, Iron, Thorium, Cobalt, Adamantite and Mithril tiers. Tier 2 of the workbench adds Thorium and Cobalt; Tier 3 is listed as unlocking Adamantite and Mithril.
The early-access recipe data available for Hytale is inconsistent. Treat ingredient counts, Tier 3 costs and Mithril availability as provisional, and compare each recipe with the values shown in your own workbench before spending rare materials.

How Hytale’s armor system is organized
Four armor slots make a complete set
Each armor set has four core pieces:
- Helm: head armor.
- Cuirass: chest armor and, according to one progression guide, the piece with the largest individual stat contribution.
- Gauntlets: hand and arm armor.
- Greaves: leg armor.
A full set means one of each piece. Shields are not a fifth armor slot in the set; they use their own category and recipes at the Armorer’s Workbench.
The six reported material tiers
| Tier order | Material | Workbench availability reported by guides |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Copper | Tier 1 |
| 2 | Iron | Tier 1 |
| 3 | Thorium | Tier 2 |
| 4 | Cobalt | Tier 2 |
| 5 | Adamantite | Tier 3 |
| 6 | Mithril | Tier 3, but normal-play availability is unconfirmed |
This is a material progression, not a guarantee that every listed recipe or bonus is present in every build. The guides describing it largely cover an early-access version, and no official recipe table or official patch-note confirmation was located.

Reported defensive and offensive differences
Only one guide in the available material assigns specific effects to the tiers, so these effects should be read as reported properties rather than definitive, current tooltips.
| Material | Effect reported by one guide | Confidence and use |
|---|---|---|
| Copper | Protection against projectiles and physical damage | Low confidence; useful as an early general-purpose set |
| Iron | Protection against projectiles and physical damage, reported as stronger than Copper | Low confidence; a defensive upgrade if the same values appear in your build |
| Thorium | Poison resistance | Low confidence; relevant when poison is the threat |
| Cobalt | Bonus to special-attack damage | Low confidence; verify the in-game description |
| Adamantite | Bonus to light-attack damage | Low confidence; verify the in-game description |
| Mithril | No consistently documented effect | Unconfirmed because both recipes and availability conflict |
Do not assume that a named material automatically gives a particular resistance or damage bonus. Open the item or recipe details in your build and use those values when deciding between tiers.
Armorer’s Workbench tiers and upgrade costs
Crafting the base workbench
The reported base recipe is 2 Copper Ingots, 10 Tree Trunks and 5 Stone. Once placed, the Tier 1 workbench is reported to handle Copper and Iron equipment. Its category list contains Helm, Cuirass, Gauntlets, Greaves and Shields.
Tier 2 upgrade
One progression guide lists the following Tier 2 materials:
| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Copper Ingot | 20 |
| Bone Fragment | 20 |
| Medium Leather | 20 |
| Azure Log | 100 |
Tier 2 is the reported unlock for Thorium and Cobalt armor. The ingredient list is from a single guide, so use it as a planning estimate and confirm the actual upgrade panel before gathering everything.

Tier 3 upgrade
Tier 3 is reported to unlock Adamantite and Mithril. The only detailed list found gives:
| Material | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Thorium Bar | 25 |
| Cobalt Bar | 25 |
| Shadoweave Scrap | 40 |
| Sturdy Chitin | 40 |
| Void Heart | 3 |
Another guide gives no Tier 3 material list at all. Because those sources do not agree, the in-game upgrade menu is the authority for your version. Do not spend Void Hearts or other rare items solely on the list above.
How to upgrade the workbench
- Place or interact with the Armorer’s Workbench.
- Open the workbench’s upgrade control rather than a normal armor category.
- Read the current material requirements shown for the next tier.
- Deposit or confirm the required materials only after checking that the displayed list matches your build.
- Complete the upgrade, then reopen the armor categories and check which materials and recipes have appeared.
If a tier does not unlock the expected materials, leave and re-enter the workbench, confirm that the upgrade completed, and check whether your world is running a different early-access build.
Crafting armor: a practical progression
Start with a complete Copper set
Copper is the recommended first target because it is reported to be quick to finish and gives you all four armor slots before you begin spending scarcer resources. A Copper Helmet example uses 6 Copper Ingots and 2 Plant Fiber, with no workbench upgrade required.
Use the workbench’s five categories to make one helm, one cuirass, one pair of gauntlets and one pair of greaves. If you use a shield, craft it from the separate Shields category after the core set is complete.

Move to Iron when defense is the priority
Iron is still a Tier 1 material, so it does not require the Tier 2 workbench upgrade. The available material does not provide a complete Iron recipe table, and it does not establish exact protection values. If your build shows Iron as a stronger physical- and projectile-defense option, replace Copper pieces as you obtain enough Iron rather than waiting for a full set.
Use Tier 2 for Thorium or Cobalt
After upgrading the workbench, choose between the reported roles:
- Thorium: favor it when poison resistance is more valuable than an attack bonus.
- Cobalt: favor it when your build relies on special attacks and the in-game description confirms the reported bonus.
A Cobalt Helmet example lists 12 Cobalt Ingots, 4 Heavy Leather and 4 Shadoweave Scraps. A separate guide lists Cobalt Greaves as 18 Cobalt Ingots, 6 Heavy Leather and 6 Shadoweave Scraps. Other sites give different counts for the same pieces, so inspect each recipe before crafting.
Reserve Tier 3 materials for a deliberate choice
Adamantite requires Tier 3. One sample Adamantite Helmet recipe lists 15 Adamantite Ingots, 5 Heavy Leather and 4 Cindercloth Scraps. The reported bonus is light-attack damage, but the effect is not confirmed by an official stat table. Make one piece first and check its actual tooltip before committing your entire stock.

Conflicting helmet recipes
One guide lists a Mithril Helmet as 12 Mithril Ingots, 6 Storm Leather and 40 Essence of the Void. Another lists the same helmet with 4 Storm Leather instead. Counts for the Mithril Cuirass, Gauntlets and Greaves also differ between guides.

Normal-play availability is unconfirmed
One source says Mithril gear is unavailable in Adventure or Exploration mode and can be obtained in Creative mode. Another says Mithril is not naturally occurring in early access. These statements cannot both describe every current build. The safe conclusion is that Mithril is listed in guides, but its availability in ordinary play is unconfirmed.
Check your own mode and recipe list before planning a Mithril set. If Mithril does not appear after a Tier 3 upgrade, that is evidence about your current build—not proof that a different guide is universally correct.

Which armor piece should you craft first?
When resources are limited
A published upgrade recommendation puts the pieces in this order:
- Cuirass: the largest reported contribution to overall stats.
- Helm: the next priority after the chest piece.
- Greaves: the third replacement target.
- Gauntlets: the final piece when materials are scarce.
This order is a resource-management rule, not a confirmed universal stat formula. If your character’s current tooltip or combat needs differ, follow the displayed statistics instead.
When you need survivability immediately
Craft the Copper Cuirass first, then complete the Copper Helm, Greaves and Gauntlets. A partial high-tier set can leave several slots weak; a complete Copper set gives consistent baseline coverage while you gather for Iron or Tier 2 materials.

- 【Rubber Pad Protects Desk】Wire organizer under desk built-in soft rubber pads on the clamp protect your desk from scratches, so you will not damage your furniture or office.
- 【Sturdy and Beautiful】Cord management under desk is made of high-quality carbon steel and holds about 15 lbs. The wire basket has 2 holes on each side of the tray to enable your cables to pass freely. Cable baskets are suitable for desk thickness use from 0.4" to 2.4".
- 【Space Saving & Keep Organized】Desk cable management tray holds all your power cords, outlet strips, USB hubs and computer transformers hidden from your feet, and the data cables will not enter the vacuum cleaner to keep your desk clean and tidy. Desk wire organizer is also suitable for use in the kitchen and outdoors.
- 【Reduce Safety Risks】Cable tray under desk keeps all plugs away from your kids, no more worry about tripping. Using 2 holes wire tray saves extra space, helps you easily cabling and wire protection. The mesh design is not easy to accumulate dust, but avoids safety accidents caused by messy wires.
When your build depends on attacks
Once the workbench shows the relevant bonus, prioritize the tier that matches your attack pattern. Cobalt’s reported special-attack benefit and Adamantite’s reported light-attack benefit are not interchangeable. Confirm which attacks your build uses before choosing a costly material.

- Gather Tier 1 materials: collect Copper, Tree Trunks and Stone for the base workbench, plus Plant Fiber and additional Copper for early recipes.
- Craft Copper: make the Cuirass first if you cannot finish all four pieces, then complete the set as soon as possible.
- Evaluate Iron: compare the Iron tooltip with Copper and replace pieces where the displayed defense justifies the material.
- Prepare Tier 2: stock the reported Copper Ingots, Bone Fragments, Medium Leather and Azure Logs, but verify the upgrade screen before final collection.
- Choose Thorium or Cobalt: select poison resistance or special-attack damage only if those effects appear in your version.
- Prepare Tier 3 cautiously: gather Adamantite- and Mithril-related materials only after your workbench displays the required costs and unlocked recipes.
- Craft one test piece: inspect its stats and passive effects before replacing the rest of your set.
Why your recipe may not match a guide
Different early-access builds
Most available guides describe an early-access build and are roughly nine months old according to one search summary. Recipe balancing can change without preserving the numbers shown on older pages. Treat the workbench interface as newer evidence than a static guide.
Different armor pieces
Ingredient counts can scale by slot. A helmet and greaves made from the same material are not expected to require identical quantities. Compare the exact piece name before concluding that a recipe is wrong.
Different game modes
Mithril availability is specifically disputed by mode. A Creative-mode listing does not establish that the same material can be mined or crafted in Adventure or Exploration mode.
Workbench upgrade not applied
If Tier 2 or Tier 3 materials remain hidden, confirm that the upgrade action completed and that you are using the upgraded station. Reopen the station and check each category; unlocks may be visible only after the interface refreshes.
How to verify current recipes safely
- Open the Armorer’s Workbench in the world where you intend to use the armor.
- Select the exact category—Helm, Cuirass, Gauntlets, Greaves or Shields.
- Read the material names and quantities shown for the selected item.
- Check the required workbench tier before gathering rare ingredients.
- After crafting, inspect the finished item’s protection and any resistance or attack text.
- Record the values for your build if you are planning a complete set; do not transfer counts from another slot or game mode.
This verification matters most for Tier 3 and Mithril, where published lists conflict. No official Hytale patch note or official recipe table was located to settle those differences as of October 14, 2026.
Armor choices by goal
| Your goal | Starting choice | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Fast first protection | Complete Copper set | Whether Copper’s displayed physical and projectile protection meets the threat |
| More general defense without a station upgrade | Iron pieces | That Iron is stronger than Copper in your build |
| Poison-heavy encounters | Thorium | Poison-resistance value and Tier 2 requirement |
| Special-attack build | Cobalt | The special-attack bonus and exact recipe quantities |
| Light-attack build | Adamantite | The light-attack bonus and Tier 3 requirements |
| Late-game or Creative experimentation | Mithril | Whether the material exists in your mode and the exact displayed recipe |
What remains uncertain
- The exact Tier 3 upgrade cost is not consistently documented.
- Mithril ingredient counts differ, including the Storm Leather requirement for the helmet.
- Whether Mithril can be obtained in Adventure or Exploration mode is unconfirmed.
- Recipe quantities may have changed after the early-access builds described by third-party guides.
- No official developer statistic or quotation establishes the tier bonuses listed by one guide.
For that reason, use the material ladder and workbench progression as a planning framework, but use the current in-game recipe and tooltip as the final authority.
