The Build Your Identity Solution Using Hyperledger Aries workshop is a free, archived four-hour introduction to decentralized identity and verifiable credentials. Its hands-on learning path moves from identity concepts and Hyperledger Indy tools to Aries connections, credential issuance, and verification in Aries Toolbox. The recordings are useful for orientation, but their installation instructions are historical rather than a guarantee of compatibility with current software.
What is the Build Your Identity Solution Using Hyperledger Aries workshop?
Hyperledger Foundation offered the workshop online on November 10, 2022. It was designed for developers and technical learners seeking a practical introduction to decentralized identity and verifiable credentials, rather than as a certification course. The official event listing describes a four-hour session covering decentralized identity principles, the verifiable credential data model, the ecosystem, SelfServe and Indyscan, Indy CLI, Hyperledger Aries, and Aries Toolbox. See the archived event listing.
The material follows a practical sequence: understand the identity concepts and ecosystem, explore an Indy-based network and its tools, learn how Aries fits into the process, then work through a credential workflow. The objective is to see how connections, credential issuance, and verification relate—not to treat any single archived set of commands as current setup guidance.

| January 20, 2022 | The official video description mentions a companion document for following along. | The event archive warns that the earlier workshop may include material that is no longer up to date or may not reflect recent Aries developments. |
| November 10, 2022 | Recording identified on Hyperledger’s on-demand learning page. | The listing describes a four-hour workshop. The sources do not establish that its APIs or installation instructions match current releases. |
Indicio’s 2023 report said the November session had 464 registrations and 181 attendees, and reported 1,046 YouTube views “to date.” The same report cited 200 attendees and 1,483 subsequent YouTube views for the January session. These are historical organizational figures, not current view counts or independently verified attendance audits. Read Indicio’s reporting.
What should you install before following the workshop?
The archived event page listed Linux, Docker, Indy-CLI, downloaded repositories, and access to the Hyperledger Aries Discord as preparation. These were prerequisites for that historical event, not confirmation that a particular operating system, software version, or repository setup will work today. Hyperledger’s event page cautions that “some of the material covered in this earlier version may no longer be up to date and may not reflect the most recent developments in the Aries project.” Check the archive’s preparation notes and warning.

If you are watching to learn the concepts, you can follow the recording without treating every installation step as current. If you plan to run the exercises, consult current project documentation for supported versions and setup instructions before installing tools or relying on old commands. The archived sources do not verify present-day compatibility.
How does the workshop’s credential workflow fit together?
The workshop’s learning sequence connects the Indy network tools to Aries and then to a credential workflow in Aries Toolbox. At a high level, the exercise introduces connections between participants, issuance of a verifiable credential, and verification of that credential. The official listings establish these as workshop topics; they do not establish a current, exact command-by-command procedure that can safely be reproduced from the archive alone.
