Hume Bank is an Australian customer-owned bank with products spanning everyday banking, savings, home loans, cards and business finance. Whether it suits you depends on the specific account or loan: check its current rate, fees, eligibility and access terms rather than relying on a bank-wide verdict.

What is Hume Bank?

Hume Bank says it was founded in 1955 and remains 100% customer-owned, according to its 2025 Members’ Report. The bank describes its model as reinvesting profits in customers, the community, staff and the bank. That is the bank’s account of its purpose and ownership; it is not an independent measure of customer outcomes.

Its Australian product range includes home loans, everyday and savings accounts, credit cards, personal loans, term deposits, business banking and digital banking services. The Hume Bank product index is a starting point for identifying relevant products.

Which Hume Bank products should you compare?

If you are buying or refinancing a home

Hume Bank lists variable and fixed home loans, a first-home-buyer pathway, bridging finance and an offset account. Compare products for the same loan purpose, loan-to-value ratio, repayment type and term. Review the comparison rate as well as the advertised rate, plus fees, eligibility, offset and redraw conditions, repayment flexibility and any fixed-rate expiry or revert terms in the current loan documents.

If you want to save

The bank lists iSave, Reward Saver, Clancy Koala, retirement savings and term deposits, among other options. Compare the applicable balance tiers, bonus-rate conditions, minimums, access and withdrawal restrictions, and fees. A headline rate may depend on conditions that do not fit how you plan to use the account.

If you need everyday banking

Hume Bank offers transaction-account options, including Essential, as well as Visa debit cards and digital payment services. Check card, ATM and international transaction terms, digital access and payment features against your expected use; the product name alone does not establish that an account is free of fees.

What do the published rate changes tell you?

On 6 May 2026, Hume Bank announced that applicable variable owner-occupied and investment home-loan rates would rise by 0.25 percentage points per annum from 27 May 2026. It also announced a 0.25-percentage-point increase from 1 June 2026 for variable savings accounts including iSave, Business iSave, Reward Saver, Clancy Koala and Retirement accounts. These are dated changes, not current product-rate quotations. Consult the bank’s rate-change notice and live product information for rates that apply when you are comparing or applying.

Rates and conditions can differ within a product category, and the rate notice does not establish the current rate for every account or loan. Compare the latest product information with the applicable disclosure documents before making a decision.

How can you check fees and conditions?

Hume Bank provides product disclosure statements, fee schedules, credit guides, payment terms and loan conditions through its product terms and disclosure index. Open the documents for the exact product you are considering and check their version and effective date. Fees and eligibility are product-specific, so a general review cannot establish the total cost of a particular account or loan.

The terms index also notes that Allianz is no longer offering consumer credit insurance to new customers; existing policy documents remain available for current holders.

Is Hume Bank regulated, and is money held there protected?

Hume Bank identifies itself as an Authorised Deposit-Taking Institution supervised by APRA under the Banking Act 1959, and names ASIC and AUSTRAC among its regulators. APRA’s Financial Claims Scheme list of authorised deposit-taking institutions includes Hume Bank Limited.

APRA’s Financial Claims Scheme has a $250,000 limit for protected deposits, subject to scheme rules. That figure is not a blanket guarantee for every product sold by a bank: APRA advises customers to check the specific account’s terms to confirm whether it is protected. Balances across protected accounts with the same ADI count toward the limit. Confirm current eligibility and account-holder details with APRA’s information before relying on the scheme.

What support does Hume Bank say it provides when rates change?

Hume Bank says it informs affected variable-rate borrowers of a new rate, minimum monthly repayment and effective date. Its interest-rate FAQ advises borrowers who may struggle with changed repayments to contact the bank promptly to discuss options. It also says some recurring repayments can be changed through iBank or the bank app. These describe the bank’s stated processes, not independently assessed service quality.

How to decide whether Hume Bank fits

  • For a loan: compare the total cost, including rate and fees, and match the loan purpose, deposit or equity, repayment type and term. Check fixed or variable exposure and conditions for offset or redraw.
  • For savings: compare the rate you can actually qualify for, balance tiers, bonus conditions, access restrictions and fees.
  • For everyday use: check card and transaction costs, payment features, digital access and the channels you need.
  • For any eligible deposit: verify Financial Claims Scheme coverage for the precise account and account holder, rather than assuming the bank’s ADI status covers every product.

Hume Bank’s customer-owned status and broad product range may make it worth considering if its products match your needs. The available facts do not establish that it is the cheapest, best-performing or highest-rated option. A sound decision requires current product-specific terms and a like-for-like comparison with other providers.
