The Huawei MatePad Pro Max pairs a large, high-spec OLED display with an unusually thin, light body—but whether it is worth buying depends heavily on the apps you need. Huawei calls it the world’s thinnest tablet in its size class; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified ranking. TechRadar praised its screen and build, but found its limited app availability a serious productivity constraint.
Is the Huawei MatePad Pro Max worth it?
It is a compelling choice for drawing, media and other large-screen work if the apps and services you rely on are available for your region and setup. The 13.2-inch OLED panel, 144 Hz refresh rate and slim design are its defining strengths. The main compromise is software: TechRadar reports that Google Play Services and Google apps are unavailable and that many major apps are missing from AppGallery. That can outweigh the hardware advantages for people whose work depends on mainstream Google services or specific apps.
Huawei unveiled the tablet in Bangkok on May 7, 2026, but that announcement does not establish when it went on sale in every country. TechRadar reported a UK release on June 30, 2026, with a starting price of £999.99, and said it was unavailable in the US and Australia when its review was written. These are dated review-period details, not current stock or pricing information. Huawei’s May 2026 announcement and TechRadar’s review provide those respective details.
What do you get for the price?
Huawei’s global specifications describe a 13.2-inch flexible OLED display with 3000 × 2000 resolution, 273 ppi, a listed brightness of up to 1600 nits, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 144 Hz refresh rate. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements. The product page also lists a 3.55 mm bezel and 94% screen-to-body ratio. TechRadar reports a 91.4% ratio in its review; because the figures differ and their measurement bases are not established here, neither should be presented as a settled independent measurement. Huawei’s specifications and product page give the published figures.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The display is a standout in the independent hands-on coverage: TechRadar praised its vividness, brightness in sunlight and smooth scrolling. ITPro described the PaperMatte version as providing a pencil-on-paper feel when used with an M-Pencil. PaperMatte is an edition-specific screen treatment, not a feature of every MatePad Pro Max.
How thin and light is it?
Huawei lists the tablet at 4.7 mm thick, with an approximate weight of 499 g for the standard version and 509 g for the PaperMatte Edition. The company says those weights come from its labs and actual measurements can vary. Huawei describes it as the “world’s thinnest 13-inch-plus tablet”; reviewers repeat the claim with attribution, but the available sources do not establish an independently audited category-wide ranking. The distinction matters: the measurements are Huawei’s published specifications, and the superlative remains Huawei’s claim.

TechRadar described the metal build as premium. No independent lab verification of the tablet’s bending resistance, brightness or battery-life claims is established in the sources cited here.
Does it have Google apps, and what is HarmonyOS like?
The global specification page lists HarmonyOS 4.3. TechRadar reports that Google Play Services and Google apps are unavailable and that many major apps are absent from AppGallery. As a result, the tablet’s practical usefulness depends on whether your essential apps have workable versions in your market and whether your routine requires native Google services.

T3 notes that Android-app workarounds such as GBox have limitations: some apps may refuse to run or download. A workaround should not be treated as equivalent to native Google services, and app compatibility can change. Check the exact apps you need in your country before buying rather than assuming a workaround will support them. T3’s hands-on coverage discusses those limitations.
Can it replace a laptop or support creative work?
The size and high-refresh-rate display make the MatePad Pro Max suited to visual work and media, and ITPro found it well suited to creative use with the M-Pencil. But hardware alone does not determine whether it can replace a laptop: confirm that your work apps, file-sharing services and account workflows function on HarmonyOS before relying on it for productivity.

The optional M-Pencil Pro is a separate accessory according to Huawei. The Glide Keyboard is listed as compatible but available only with select configurations; the Folio Cover, which supports portrait and landscape positioning, is also limited to select configurations. TechRadar praised the overall screen and build but found the keyboard’s opening mechanism less refined. Check the exact local bundle and accessory compatibility before calculating the purchase total. Huawei’s M-Pencil Pro information and its product page cover accessories and configuration caveats.

Its advertised local-video playback figures are 13.6 hours for the UK page’s EU configuration and 14.5 hours for non-EU configurations. Those runtime figures are Huawei claims, not independent battery-test results in the sources cited here.

The global page also lists USB-C 3.1, Bluetooth 6.0 and Wi-Fi standards through 802.11be. Regional configurations and box contents may differ, and Huawei notes that specifications can change. Check the local listing for the exact charger, battery and connectivity configuration.
Who should buy it—and who should look elsewhere?
It makes sense if
- You want a large, vivid OLED display in a particularly thin, light tablet.
- Your creative or media workflow is compatible with HarmonyOS and the apps available in your market.
- You are prepared to confirm the cost and availability of the keyboard, stylus, cover and charger separately.
Think twice if
- Your daily work depends on Google apps or other specific mainstream apps that may not be available or reliable on the tablet.
- You need a laptop replacement without first verifying your complete software workflow.
- You are relying on a particular price, bundle or release date outside the UK review-period information reported by TechRadar.
The MatePad Pro Max is an impressive piece of hardware, but it is not a universal productivity recommendation. Its display and portability make a strong case for creative and media use; app compatibility is the deciding factor for anyone expecting a familiar Google-centered tablet experience.
