Short answer: the HONOR Magic V is the more verifiable choice today. HONOR’s 2026 specification page confirms its three 50 MP rear cameras, 42 MP selfie camera, 4,750 mAh typical battery, 66 W wired charging, Magic UI 6.0 based on Android 12, and its two display sizes. The Huawei Mate X8 has potentially stronger battery hardware on paper, with a third-party listing claiming 5,600 mAh capacity plus 50 W wireless charging, but Huawei has not published an official Mate X8 product page. Until that happens, the Mate X8 camera, battery, software, weight, displays, price and release status remain provisional.
This comparison separates confirmed specifications from leaks so you can decide whether the documented Magic V is the sensible purchase or whether it is worth waiting for Huawei to clarify the Mate X8.
What is actually confirmed about each phone?
The evidence quality is the first major difference. HONOR publishes a 2026 specification page for the Magic V. That page supplies camera, battery, charging, software and display information that can be treated as manufacturer-confirmed for the model and market covered by the page.
Recommended Free Tools
Mate X8 information is less certain. A 2026 CNMO specification listing gives several detailed figures, while a QSQTechnology video dated 9 July 2026 discusses an expected book-style foldable and possible hardware. Neither is a Huawei product specification. Huawei’s official 2026 event and HarmonyOS support pages mention other products, including Mate XT 2 and Mate X7, but do not provide a Mate X8 product page. That absence means the figures below must not be read as final Huawei specifications.

Camera comparison: Magic V has the only confirmed camera specification
HONOR Magic V’s three-camera rear system
The Magic V has three 50 MP rear cameras. HONOR identifies them as a wide camera at f/1.9, an ultra-spectrum camera at f/2.0 and an ultra-wide camera at f/2.2. The specification page also lists 4K video recording and electronic stabilization.
That arrangement gives the phone three distinct imaging roles rather than three versions of the same lens. The wide camera is the normal view for most photographs. The ultra-wide camera is intended for architecture, landscapes and group scenes where stepping backward is impractical. HONOR’s ultra-spectrum camera is a separate specialty sensor; its name alone does not establish how it performs in every lighting condition, so it should not be treated as a guaranteed night-photography advantage.
The front camera is a 42 MP unit with an f/2.4 aperture and 4K video support. A high pixel count does not by itself predict image quality, but it does give HONOR a clearly documented front-camera specification for video calls, selfies and cover-screen use.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →What is known about the Mate X8 cameras
CNMO’s 2026 listing does not provide a complete camera specification that can be checked against a Huawei product page. The 9 July 2026 QSQTechnology video describes an expected triple-camera arrangement with an improved main sensor, but it does not establish final megapixel counts, apertures, stabilization method, front-camera hardware or video modes.
Consequently, it is not accurate to declare the Mate X8 the better camera phone. It may eventually have a newer main sensor, but “improved” in a leak video is not a measurable specification. Until Huawei publishes the sensor sizes, lens roles, video resolutions and stabilization details, the Magic V is the only model for which a buyer can compare camera hardware with confidence.

How to choose if camera work is your priority
- Buy based on known capability: choose the Magic V if you need a documented three-camera setup, 4K recording on the front and rear cameras, and electronic stabilization.
- Wait for Huawei’s confirmation: wait for the Mate X8 if the possible newer main sensor, a different image-processing system or Huawei’s camera software is more important than having confirmed specifications now.
- Do not infer quality from megapixels: sensor area, lens quality, processing and stabilization are not supplied for the Mate X8, so a 50 MP or higher figure would not settle the comparison.
Battery and charging: the reported Mate X8 lead is not yet a buying fact
Magic V battery and wired charging
HONOR lists the Magic V at 4,750 mAh typical capacity and 4,650 mAh rated capacity. Those are different measurements of the same battery specification: typical capacity is the higher representative figure, while rated capacity is the guaranteed minimum-style figure used for technical labeling. HONOR also lists up to 66 W wired SuperCharge and includes a 66 W charger in the specification.
The 66 W figure describes the maximum charging capability under compatible conditions; it does not mean every charge cycle runs at 66 W from empty to full. Charging speed can taper as the battery fills, and actual results depend on temperature, charger compatibility and regional bundle contents. The supplied HONOR page establishes the charger listing, not a universal time-to-full result.
Mate X8 battery claims
CNMO reports a 5,600 mAh Mate X8 battery, 66 W wired charging and 50 W wireless charging. If Huawei confirms those numbers, the Mate X8 would have a larger nominal battery than the Magic V’s 4,750 mAh typical figure and would add a documented wireless-charging option that is not stated for the Magic V on the cited page.
At present, however, these are third-party figures. Battery endurance cannot be calculated from capacity alone: screen size and refresh rate, processor efficiency, modem behavior, camera use and software power management all affect runtime. The listing also does not establish whether 5,600 mAh is typical or rated capacity, so comparing it directly with HONOR’s two separately labeled figures would overstate precision.
Which battery should you choose?
| Need | More defensible choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Confirmed capacity and charging documentation | HONOR Magic V | HONOR specifies 4,750 mAh typical, 4,650 mAh rated and up to 66 W wired charging. |
| Potentially longer endurance from a larger cell | Wait for Mate X8 confirmation | CNMO reports 5,600 mAh, but Huawei has not confirmed it and no battery-life test is available. |
| Wireless charging | Mate X8 only if Huawei confirms it | CNMO reports 50 W wireless charging; the cited Magic V specification does not state wireless charging. |
| Reliable purchase decision now | HONOR Magic V | The key battery figures are official rather than listing-based. |
Software and app ecosystem
Magic V: Magic UI 6.0 based on Android 12
HONOR’s 2026 specification page identifies Magic UI 6.0 based on Android 12. That gives buyers a clear software baseline, but it does not by itself guarantee identical features, update timing or app services in every country. Android-based software can vary by region, certification and pre-installed services.

The specification confirms the operating-system foundation; it does not prove that every Google service is available in every market. If Google apps are essential, check the exact regional model and sales channel for Google Mobile Services certification before paying. The evidence supplied here does not establish a universal Google-app policy for all Magic V units.
Mate X8: HarmonyOS 6.0 is a listing claim
CNMO lists HarmonyOS 6.0 for the Mate X8. Because Huawei has not published an official Mate X8 page, the version should be treated as expected rather than final. The QSQTechnology video focuses on hardware expectations and does not convert the software claim into a Huawei confirmation.
HarmonyOS app availability, regional services, account requirements and compatibility with apps designed for Android are therefore unresolved for this specific phone. Do not assume that a Mate X8 sold in one market will have the same app catalog or services as a unit sold elsewhere. Huawei’s official 2026 event and HarmonyOS support material retrieved for this comparison lists other devices and updates, not a finalized Mate X8 software profile.
Software decision rule
- Choose the Magic V when a documented Android 12-based interface and known app requirements matter more than an unannounced Huawei platform.
- Consider the Mate X8 only after Huawei states the final HarmonyOS version, supported services, update policy and regional app compatibility.
- For work accounts, banking, streaming or enterprise tools, verify each critical app on the exact regional model; neither a platform name nor a version number proves compatibility by itself.
Displays, shape and portability
Confirmed Magic V screen layout
The Magic V uses a 7.9-inch foldable inner OLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz and a 6.45-inch cover OLED panel with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The two refresh-rate ceilings are different: the outer display can update more frequently, while the larger inner display is specified at up to 90 Hz.
In practical terms, the cover screen is the documented option for ordinary phone tasks without opening the device, while the inner panel provides the larger canvas for reading, multitasking and media. The supplied specification does not state brightness, hinge angle, crease measurements or durability ratings, so those should not be inferred from the panel sizes.

Mate X8 display reports conflict
CNMO reports a 6.49-inch outer display and an 8-inch inner display. QSQTechnology’s 9 July 2026 video describes approximately 6.5-inch and 8.15-inch panels. The difference may reflect rounding, a different measurement convention or an evolving leak, but it demonstrates why these numbers are provisional.
Neither source establishes the Mate X8 panel type, refresh rate, resolution, brightness, cover-screen aspect ratio or durability. The reported screens suggest a book-style foldable similar in broad concept to the Magic V, yet they do not support a final display-quality verdict.
Weight and portability
HONOR lists the Magic V at 288–293 g. CNMO lists the Mate X8 at 236 g, which would be a substantial difference if Huawei confirms it. Because the Mate X8 weight is not from Huawei and foldable weight can vary by configuration, region or measurement method, treat 236 g as a claim to verify rather than a guaranteed advantage.
| Physical specification | Magic V | Mate X8 report |
|---|---|---|
| Inner display | 7.9-inch OLED, up to 90 Hz | 8 inches from CNMO; approximately 8.15 inches in QSQTechnology video |
| Outer display | 6.45-inch OLED, up to 120 Hz | 6.49 inches from CNMO; approximately 6.5 inches in QSQTechnology video |

Performance and processor expectations
The supplied confirmed Magic V specifications do not identify its processor, memory configuration or storage. The QSQTechnology video expects a Kirin 9-series processor in the Mate X8, but that is leak material, not a confirmed Huawei specification. Without official processor, RAM and storage information for both models, a performance ranking would be speculation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFoldable performance also depends on sustained cooling, software optimization and app behavior across the inner and outer screens. A processor family name alone would not establish gaming frame rates, camera-processing speed or battery efficiency. Wait for Huawei’s final specification and independent testing before using the Mate X8 as a performance upgrade claim.

Availability, release date and pricing
There is no Huawei announcement in the supplied material confirming a Mate X8 release date, price or supported markets. Do not treat a retailer listing, video date or third-party specification page as proof that the phone is officially launched or purchasable in your country.
The Magic V has a documented specification page, but the comparison evidence does not provide a current price, stock position or universal market list for it. Availability and warranty can differ by country, so check the exact regional HONOR listing and seller before ordering. The absence of a Mate X8 product page also means accessories, warranty terms and service-center support cannot be assumed.
How to verify the Mate X8 before buying
If Huawei publishes the phone after you read this comparison, use this checklist to replace the provisional claims with confirmed information:
- Find Huawei’s official product page. Confirm that the page names Mate X8, identifies the region and shows a launch or sales status.
- Check the battery labels. Look for both typical and rated capacity, not just a single 5,600 mAh number.
- Verify charging equipment. Confirm whether 66 W wired and 50 W wireless charging are supported on the regional model and whether the required charger is included.
- Read the complete camera table. Record each rear and front sensor, aperture, optical or electronic stabilization, maximum video resolution and any crop limits.
- Confirm HarmonyOS details. Check the exact version, update commitment, app store, Google-service status where relevant and regional compatibility for essential apps.
- Compare measured physical data. Use Huawei’s dimensions and weight for the same configuration rather than relying on a leak’s rounded figures.
- Check sales and warranty terms. Verify price, release date, network bands, warranty region, returns and repair coverage before placing an order.
Which phone makes sense for different buyers?
Choose the HONOR Magic V when certainty matters
The Magic V is the rational choice for a buyer who needs a known camera specification, a stated battery capacity, 66 W wired charging and an Android 12-based Magic UI version. Its 7.9-inch inner and 6.45-inch outer displays are also documented, as is its 288–293 g weight range. You still need to check regional app services, pricing and stock, but the core hardware facts are available from HONOR.
Wait for the Mate X8 when the potential hardware advantages are decisive
Waiting makes sense if a possible 5,600 mAh battery, 50 W wireless charging, lighter 236 g body or newer Kirin 9-series processor would change your decision. Those advantages are meaningful only if Huawei confirms them and offers the phone in your market. A larger battery does not guarantee longer runtime, and a lighter listing does not prove the final retail configuration.
Do not buy on an unverified camera or software promise
The Mate X8’s reported triple-camera system and HarmonyOS 6.0 are not enough to establish superior photography or broader app compatibility. Require Huawei’s final camera table and software documentation before paying a premium for either claim.
Bottom line
On evidence available now, the HONOR Magic V is the safer, better-documented foldable. It has confirmed three 50 MP rear cameras, a 42 MP 4K-capable front camera, a 4,750 mAh typical battery, up to 66 W wired charging, Magic UI 6.0 based on Android 12, and clearly specified displays. The Mate X8 may eventually win on battery size, wireless charging, weight or newer hardware, but its 5,600 mAh battery, 50 W wireless charging, 236 g weight, HarmonyOS 6.0, display sizes and camera improvements come from third-party or leak material. Until Huawei publishes an official Mate X8 page and regional sales details, treat it as a phone to monitor rather than a specification-confirmed alternative.
