HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop: At First Glance

Like its 2019 model, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop is affordable. However, it drew a lot of attention because many were eager to find out how it would be better than the disappointing 2019 model.

This laptop has also been subjected to rigorous scrutiny because of its affordable price. Most consumers have been keen to discover what HP adjusted to make the laptop this affordable.

However, it turns out that it might just be a good laptop for its price. Its overall package makes it worthy of competing with other laptops in the gaming laptop market.

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop: Design, Dimension, and Weight

The build quality of the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop is excellent. It has a plastic material build, but it is very sturdy.

However, the lid is a bit soft, so it bends easily. Hence, you will need to handle the lid with care.

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop is a nice-looking laptop. The laptop has a matte black finish on its inside and outside.

In addition, it has an emerald HP logo centered on its lid. This green logo blends with the laptop’s green backlit keyboard.

The keyboard itself is well-spaced with a decent layout. Moreover, the key travel is great, and its keys have a good tactile response.

Furthermore, this laptop’s trackpad makes use of a plastic surface that is slightly short, so scrolling up and down can get a bit uncomfortable. But it is surprisingly smooth and responsive despite its plastic build.

Moving on to weight – the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop is not too big for a gaming laptop. The laptop is also not too heavy – it measures 359.9 x 256 x 22.8 mm and weighs 2231.6 g.

Furthermore, this laptop offers a fair selection of ports. It offers 1 USB Type-C (10Gbps signaling rate, USB Power Delivery, Display Port 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge), 3 USB Type-A, and an HDMI 2.0 port.

In conclusion, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop scores a nine in this review because of its solid build and design.

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop: Processor (CPU) Performance

HP equipped the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop with an Intel Core i7-10750H. This processor has 6 cores and a 12 MB cache.

Also, this laptop’s processor has a base frequency of 2.60 GHz and a maximum frequency of 5.0 GHz.

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop performed excellently at standard computing daily tasks. Computing operations like web browsing, word processing, emailing, and other minor tasks weren’t difficult for the laptop to handle.

Moreover, it handles photo and video editing excellently.

On a Cinebench R15 test, this laptop scored 1205 in the single-core test. Meanwhile, it scored 193 in the multi-score aspect.

Therefore, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop scores an eight in this review for its excellent CPU performance.

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop: Memory (RAM) Performance

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop comes with 32 GB DDR4 RAM. The laptop has 2 memory slots.

However, the maximum RAM size supported is 32 GB.

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop’s RAM performance is very decent. It is capable of handling a series of workflows and light multitasking.

This laptop ran smoothly with 30 browser tabs while a music album was streaming on Soundcloud. A document editing process was also started to further test the laptop.

It continued to operate smoothly with this added task.

In conclusion, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop has a lot of power to handle multitasking operations. Therefore it scores an eight in this review.

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop: Storage Options and Performance

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop features a 1 TB M.2 SSD. In addition to its large storage, it also offers a multi-format card reader.

Obviously, 1 TB of SSD storage is quite large enough. You won’t have issues with file storage, and nor will you find it difficult to install large programs.

Moreover, its Solid-state drive offers a speedy performance in terms of overall use. The laptop’s boot time is also fast due to the SSD.

Furthermore, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop recorded a sequential read speed of 752.9 MBps on a CrystalDiskMark test. It recorded a sequential write speed of 872.8 MBps.

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop offers an incredible storage capacity as well as excellent drive performance. Hence, it scores a nine in this review.

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop: Graphics Card Performance

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop features a dedicated Nvidia GeForce Max Q graphics card. This laptop also comes with a dedicated VRAM of 6 GB to further improve its graphics card performance.

This graphics card has a base frequency of 975 MHz and a boost frequency of 1185 MHz.

As expected, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop performed excellently well at gaming. It attained a 60 FPS rate at 1080p resolution with high settings.

Furthermore, the laptop is good for playing AAA games at enjoyable frame rates. However, the Acer Predator Helios 300 and the Lenovo Legion are still one step ahead of this laptop.

Nevertheless, its gaming performance is very enjoyable. It delivered good frame rates of 60 FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and 74 FPS in Apex Legends. It achieved 132 FPS in Doom and 66 FPS in Battlefield V.

Finally, due to the aforementioned gaming performance, I rate the laptop’s graphics a nine in this review.

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop: Battery Life and Performance

The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop comes with a 3-Cell 52.5 Wh battery. This battery lasts for 6 hours.

This battery life is not too bad for a gaming laptop. Besides, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop surpassed the Lenovo Legion laptop in battery performance tests.

When subjected to a video playback test, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop lasted for 6 hours and 3 minutes. This is a much better time record than the 4 hours and 10 minutes of the Lenovo Legion Y530 Laptop.

Moreover, the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop also edged over the Acer Predator Helios 300 in a battery test. The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop recorded almost twice the time frame of the Acer Predator Helios, which lasted for 3 hours and 5 minutes.

In conclusion, it scores a seven in this review because its battery life is relatively okay.
