Short answer: choose the HP OmniBook Ultra 16 if you need Windows, an RTX Spark N1X GPU, a touch display, or up to 128GB of onboard memory. Choose the 16-inch MacBook Pro if your work depends on macOS, Apple-silicon software, Unix tooling, or an established Apple peripheral workflow. Neither is universally better, and battery evidence does not support declaring a winner yet.

The HP OmniBook Ultra 16-bk000 is a specialized Windows 11 laptop with a 16-inch 3K 120Hz OLED touchscreen, NVIDIA RTX Spark graphics, Gen5 NVMe storage, and a 99Wh battery. Apple’s 2024 16-inch MacBook Pro uses M4 Pro or M4 Max chips and has a 99.6Wh rated battery. Your applications, GPU needs, display preferences, and exact regional price should determine the purchase.

What the HP OmniBook Ultra 16 is designed to do

The OmniBook Ultra 16 is not simply a large office notebook. HP’s current 16-bk000 listing combines Windows 11 Home with NVIDIA RTX Spark N1X graphics, a high-refresh OLED panel, fast Gen5 storage, and substantial onboard memory. That combination targets people who need Windows applications and local GPU acceleration in the same machine.

RTX Spark configurations

The listed configuration pairs an 18-core CPU with a 5,120-core GPU. HP also lists an RTX Spark version with a 20-core CPU and 6,144-core GPU, available with 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of onboard LPDDR5x memory. Core counts indicate the relative scale of the two options, not a guaranteed application benchmark. Rendering engines, drivers, thermals, and the specific software you use will determine sustained performance.

For video effects, 3D work, GPU-accelerated engineering tools, and local AI applications that support the RTX platform, the HP offers dedicated graphics hardware in a Windows laptop. Check the compatibility list for each application before assuming that every AI model or plug-in can use the GPU.

Memory and storage

The 32GB version uses LPDDR5x-9400 memory soldered to the system board. HP’s alternate 64GB and 128GB versions provide more headroom for large projects, virtual machines, datasets, and simultaneous applications, but the memory is onboard rather than a user-replaceable module. Select the capacity you are likely to need at purchase.

The documented system includes a 1TB PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD. Gen5 is a storage-interface specification; your real transfer rate will depend on the drive, workload, thermals, and software. A 1TB drive can be a practical starting point for creative applications, but high-resolution footage, game libraries, and local model files can consume it quickly.

What the 16-inch MacBook Pro is designed to do

Apple’s 2024 16-inch MacBook Pro is built around M4 Pro or M4 Max systems rather than a Windows-style discrete GPU specification. The choice is therefore less about matching a published core count and more about whether your software is optimized for Apple silicon and macOS.

M4 Pro versus M4 Max

Apple sells the 16-inch model in multiple M4 Pro and M4 Max configurations. CPU, GPU, memory, and storage capacities vary by configuration, so the product name alone does not identify one performance level. When comparing a MacBook Pro with the HP, record the exact chip, memory, and SSD capacity from the retailer’s configuration page.

Apple-silicon applications can be highly efficient, and macOS may be the better environment for a workflow already built around Apple-specific creative software, Unix command-line tools, or other Mac-only applications. That advantage is practical rather than universal: a Windows-only application, plug-in, or corporate tool can outweigh it immediately.

Performance and on-device AI: which is faster for your work?

There is no responsible single speed winner from the available evidence. The HP exposes two RTX Spark GPU choices and up to 128GB of onboard memory, giving it a clear hardware-oriented case for local AI and GPU-heavy Windows software. The MacBook Pro offers M4 Pro and M4 Max systems whose behavior depends on the exact chip and the application’s Apple-silicon support.

Choose the HP for a Windows GPU workflow

  • You use Windows-only engineering, business, production, or plug-in software.
  • Your application specifically supports NVIDIA acceleration and benefits from a dedicated RTX GPU.
  • You need 64GB or 128GB of onboard memory for local datasets, large scenes, or many simultaneous workloads.
  • You want to run AI or creative workloads locally and have confirmed that your chosen tools support the RTX Spark platform and its drivers.

Choose the MacBook Pro for an Apple-silicon workflow

  • Your team standardizes on macOS or Apple-specific creative applications.
  • Your development workflow relies on Unix tooling and Mac-compatible packages.
  • You already own Apple peripherals and want the fewest changes to your working environment.
  • Quiet, efficient operation matters more than access to a Windows RTX configuration, provided your software runs natively or acceptably on macOS.

How to evaluate an AI application

  1. Write down the exact application, plug-ins, model format, and version you intend to use.
  2. Confirm whether it supports Windows or macOS, and whether it has a native build for the processor architecture in the laptop.
  3. Check which accelerator APIs and GPU models it supports. Do not assume that an application labelled AI automatically uses every available GPU.
  4. Verify minimum memory and storage requirements against the exact HP or Mac configuration.
  5. Look for sustained-workload testing from the application vendor or a reliable review of the same configuration rather than extrapolating from core counts.

Display: the HP has the clearer specification advantage

HP publishes unusually complete display figures for the OmniBook Ultra 16: a 16-inch 2880×1800 OLED touchscreen with up to a 120Hz refresh rate, 0.2ms response time, 500 nits in SDR, 1,100 nits in HDR, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. Those specifications suit motion-heavy interfaces, HDR content, and color-conscious creative work, although final color accuracy still depends on calibration and the individual panel.

The supplied Apple documentation confirms a 16-inch MacBook Pro but does not provide a directly matching set of resolution, refresh-rate, brightness, gamut, or touch figures for this comparison. If touch input or a 120Hz panel is a purchase requirement, the HP’s published touchscreen specification is the documented fit. If you prefer macOS and do not use touch, the missing HP-versus-Mac display numbers should be checked on the exact Apple configuration before ordering.

Who benefits from the HP touchscreen?

  • Editors and designers who use direct timeline, canvas, or annotation input.
  • Presenters and students who prefer tapping through large interfaces.
  • Windows users who want one device for pen- or touch-oriented applications.

Touch is not automatically better for every desk setup. A keyboard, mouse, trackpad, or calibrated external monitor may remain your primary interface, so do not pay for the feature unless it fits your workflow.

Battery life and charging: what the evidence actually shows

Both laptops have batteries close to 100Wh: HP specifies a 99Wh six-cell lithium-ion polymer pack, while Apple documents a 99.6Wh battery rating for the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Similar capacity does not guarantee similar runtime because processors, displays, operating systems, software, brightness, wireless activity, and power settings all affect consumption.

HP’s independent runtime result

Tom’s Guide recorded 10 hours and 52 minutes for the HP OmniBook Ultra 16 in a continuous Wi-Fi web-surfing test at 150 nits. The reviewer had completed only one run and described the result as provisional, with two more tests planned. Treat 10:52 as an early independent data point, not a definitive ranking.

The same table lists 15:28 for a 13-inch MacBook Air M5 and 15:11 for Samsung Galaxy Book 6 Ultra, but it does not list a directly comparable 16-inch MacBook Pro result. Those figures cannot establish that either laptop in this comparison is faster.

Charging and travel

HP specifies a 140W USB-C GaN power adapter and says the battery supports approximately 50% charge in 30 minutes. The statement is HP’s specified charging capability, not a promise that every charging session reaches exactly that level; temperature, workload, and battery condition can affect charging.

Tom’s Guide advises carrying the HP’s 140W charger when traveling. A high-power adapter adds to your travel load, especially if you also carry a phone, camera, or other USB-C devices. Check the charger included with the exact MacBook Pro configuration and compare total kit weight, not just the laptop.

How to compare your own battery needs

  1. Set the same screen brightness on both systems and use the same browser-based workload.
  2. Run your actual applications, because video export, gaming, local AI, and external displays can consume substantially more power than web browsing.
  3. Record time from a full charge to the battery level at which you normally plug in, rather than waiting for an emergency shutdown.
  4. Repeat the test on more than one day. A single run can be distorted by updates, background indexing, temperature, or a temporary application process.

Windows and macOS compatibility

Operating-system compatibility is the most decisive difference. The HP ships with Windows 11 Home, so it is the straightforward choice for software that requires Windows, Windows-specific drivers, or an organization’s Windows management tools. The MacBook Pro runs macOS and is the straightforward choice for Mac-only applications and workflows built around Apple services and peripherals.

Before buying for work or school

  • List every required application, plug-in, browser extension, VPN, printer utility, and accessory driver.
  • Check the vendor’s supported operating systems and processor architectures for the current version.
  • Ask whether your employer or school requires Windows security software, device management, or a specific Office workflow.
  • Confirm that project files can move between operating systems without losing fonts, plug-ins, color settings, or media links.
  • Check whether your peripherals require software that is unavailable on the other platform.

Virtual machines, compatibility layers, and remote desktops can sometimes bridge an operating-system gap, but they add setup work and may reduce performance or limit hardware acceleration. They are not a substitute for confirming support for mission-critical software.

Memory, storage, and upgrade limits

HP gives buyers a wider published memory range: 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of onboard LPDDR5x in the RTX Spark variants. That is useful if your workload grows, but onboard memory means the purchase decision is largely permanent.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Apple’s M4 Pro and M4 Max systems also vary by memory and storage configuration, but the supplied technical information does not identify one universal capacity. Compare the exact listing, not a base-model headline. For either laptop, choose enough memory for your largest realistic project and enough storage for active files, caches, applications, and operating-system updates.

Price and value: why there is no universal winner

No single price winner can be declared without the buyer’s country, currency, taxes, sale timing, and exact configuration. HP exposes multiple GPU and memory variants, while Apple sells several M4 Pro and M4 Max systems. A lower-priced base model may also have less memory, a smaller SSD, or a different processor than the model used in a review.

Compare total purchase cost

  1. Record the exact CPU/GPU, memory, SSD, operating system, and display configuration.
  2. Add required accessories such as a dock, external storage, monitor, sleeve, or replacement charger.
  3. Check the warranty term, support channel, and return policy for your country.
  4. Compare current sale prices on the day you buy; do not rely on an old launch price.
  5. Estimate the cost of replacing the laptop sooner if its onboard memory or operating system cannot meet your future workload.

For general office work or study, paying for the HP’s highest-end GPU may provide little value if your applications are browser-based. Conversely, choosing a lower Mac configuration can be false economy if your creative projects require the memory or GPU resources of a higher M4 Max system.

Which laptop should different buyers choose?

Choose the HP OmniBook Ultra 16 if:

  • Windows compatibility is mandatory.
  • You want a documented 3K OLED touchscreen and up to 120Hz refresh.
  • Your creative or AI software benefits from NVIDIA RTX acceleration.
  • You need the option of 64GB or 128GB onboard memory.
  • You accept carrying a 140W charger and selecting a configuration carefully because memory is onboard.

Choose the 16-inch MacBook Pro if:

  • Your essential applications are macOS-first or Apple-only.
  • You rely on Apple-silicon-optimized creative or development tools.
  • You value an established Apple peripheral and Unix-based workflow.
  • You prefer to select among M4 Pro and M4 Max systems according to project demands.
  • You are willing to verify the exact memory, storage, charger, and display details of the configuration you plan to purchase.

For students and general office users

Start with software compatibility, weight, ports, warranty, and the actual sale price. The HP’s RTX configuration and large memory options are attractive only when your applications can use them. The MacBook Pro’s higher-end chip options are similarly unnecessary for email, documents, web research, and video calls unless you also have demanding creative or development work.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Comparing battery capacities as if they were runtime. A 99Wh battery in each machine does not make their unplugged hours identical.
  • Treating one benchmark as a guarantee. HP’s 10:52 result came from one Tom’s Guide run and was explicitly provisional.
  • Assuming every AI tool uses the GPU. Confirm accelerator and operating-system support for the exact application.
  • Ignoring onboard memory. HP’s listed LPDDR5x is not a simple user-upgrade path, so buy the capacity you need.
  • Comparing model names instead of configurations. RTX Spark and M4 labels cover multiple CPU, GPU, memory, and storage combinations.
  • Using an old price. Regional stock, promotions, taxes, and configuration changes can alter value quickly.

Bottom-line buying decision

The HP OmniBook Ultra 16 is the better fit for a Windows-centered, touch-first, GPU-accelerated workflow. Its published 3K OLED specifications, RTX Spark options, 32GB-to-128GB onboard-memory range, and 140W fast-charging adapter make it unusually capable for local creative and AI work, provided your software supports the platform.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is the better fit when macOS, Apple-silicon applications, Unix tooling, or an existing Apple setup matters more than Windows RTX compatibility. Its 2024 M4 Pro and M4 Max range gives you several performance tiers, but the exact configuration determines the value.

If you are undecided, make a list of required applications first, then compare the exact configurations and current prices available in your country. That process will produce a more reliable answer than choosing by brand, battery capacity, or a single provisional benchmark.
