Not yet—there is no independent performance evidence that the HP OmniBook Ultra 16 beats a MacBook Pro. The first hands-on report examined a powered-off pre-release sample, and NVIDIA prohibited benchmarks before launch. What can be judged now is a substantial 16-inch Windows creator laptop with up to 128 GB of unified memory, a 3K OLED display and a discrete RTX Spark platform aimed at local AI and demanding creative work.
What the OmniBook Ultra 16 is
HP positions the OmniBook Ultra 16 as a premium Windows machine for developers, creators, gamers and entrepreneurs who want to run AI assistants and applications locally. The company announced it on September 4, 2026, alongside other RTX Spark systems.
Notebookcheck’s Benjamin Herzig inspected a physical unit on October 14, 2026. He found a CNC-machined aluminum unibody with polished edges, a smooth black finish and high perceived build quality. Its businesslike, almost ZBook-style appearance is less flashy than many gaming laptops. The trade-off is mobility: the machine weighs 2.2 kg before adding its charger, so it is substantial to carry every day.
Design and ergonomics
Display and lid
The announced panel is a 16-inch 3K OLED touchscreen with VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification. Its glass surface should deliver strong contrast and deep blacks, but the glossy finish can reflect windows and overhead lights. Herzig measured an opening angle of roughly 135 degrees, limiting how far the screen can be reclined on a stand or airplane tray.

How much RAM should you get for local AI?
Choose memory based on the model and workflow, not the marketing headline alone. A model must fit in available memory at its chosen precision, while the operating system, context window, tools and other applications also consume capacity. GPU resources, driver support and whether the software can use RTX acceleration can matter as much as raw unified-memory size.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- General AI experimentation: the lower tiers can be adequate for smaller quantized models and occasional image or text generation.
- Serious local development: the higher-memory configurations provide useful room for larger models, longer context and simultaneous development tools.
- Large models or multiple services: select the highest capacity you can justify, but confirm that your framework supports the RTX Spark platform and the required precision before paying for it.
Does it beat the MacBook Pro?
The available evidence cannot answer that question. The inspected unit was powered off, and NVIDIA did not permit benchmarks before release. There are therefore no repeatable application, rendering, compilation, battery-under-load or gaming results from this review to compare with a MacBook Pro.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.

| Comparison axis | What is known about the OmniBook Ultra 16 | What remains unknown versus MacBook Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Application performance | Announced RTX Spark hardware and up to 1 petaflop FP4 claim | Real performance in Adobe, 3D, code compilation and sustained workloads |
| Local AI | Up to 128 GB unified memory and a high-memory configuration with 20-core Grace CPU/6,144-core Blackwell GPU | Model compatibility, tokens per second, thermals and efficiency on specific software |
| Battery | HP claims up to 17 hours of FHD local-video playback | Comparable runtime in creative, AI and mixed productivity workloads |
| Portability | 2.2 kg chassis, 99 Wh battery and 140 W charger | How its carry weight and endurance compare with the particular MacBook Pro size and configuration you choose |
The defensible conclusion is that HP is targeting premium Apple hardware with more Windows-oriented local-AI capacity and a broad creator port selection. Whether it actually wins requires testing a retail unit with identical applications, power settings and workload files.
Who should wait, and who should consider it?
Consider it if
- You need Windows software and want unusually large unified-memory options in a laptop.
- Your work benefits from CUDA-compatible or RTX-accelerated local AI tools, subject to software support.
- You prefer a 16-inch OLED workspace, HDMI and a built-in microSD reader.
Wait for independent testing if
- You are buying primarily for rendering, video export, code compilation or gaming performance.
- Battery life under sustained workloads is more important than the video-playback claim.
- You need a light travel machine, a full-size SD slot or a lid that opens beyond roughly 135 degrees.
Bottom line on the RTX Spark laptop
The OmniBook Ultra 16 is a credible high-end design study: robust aluminum construction, a high-spec OLED screen, extensive memory potential and serious cooling in one Windows laptop. Its $2,599.99 reported starting point and $3,199.99 Best Buy listing place it firmly in premium territory. As of October 15, 2026, however, the MacBook Pro comparison is an open test question, not a demonstrated victory. Treat HP’s AI, battery and performance figures as announced claims until independent reviewers can run the shipping hardware.
